1. When we first played a big Irish bar here in Edinburgh we didn't have any traditional irish songs in the set list (we were more a rock/punk type of group at the time). We gathered requests from the inebriated irishmen and women, and played those song next gig. We had to play Galway Girl 3 times in one night...

3. Bringing down the birds - herbie hancock (Groove is in the heart - Dee Lite) Guns of Brixton - the clash
4.
I can't see it. It must be that piece of cod which passeth all understanding.
May it was the Salmon of Knowledge (or the Salmon of Doubt)
5.
My tongue was very firmly in my cheek, honest Guv; Binkies has been covered a few times on BC. When I used to go it had different genres on different nights - and of course it's only a 5 min walk from Chamber St.
Pardon me, been spending too much time on serious work stuff! It's indeed a great venue, you never know what you're going to get on the night
6. Kiwi stated his interest in jazzy and funky stuff, not perhaps the most represented genres at whistlebinkies! <plug> On the other hand, I will be playing ska and reggae on August 4th, 9.30-12.00 </plug> It's a great venue. I also went back to Henry's cellar bar after a 10-year absence, and I found it quite nice, in a scruffy kind of way, better than i remember it. Good place for live music too!
7. Hey Kiwi, More welcomes from the burgh! Where do you stay in Edinburgh? Plenty places for live music and good pints around the town
8. I may be interested, but I won't be back in town until middle of next week
9.
... It seems alot of people think that by spending £1500 on an amp they're getting some kind of indistructable bomb-proof piece of kit. My point was, thats not always the case.
You'll need to spend £100 on a Mark III or IV peavey 400 bass amp for that

11. Sorry thurbs, I very rarely drive down south. Edinburgh is lovely at this time of the year though (if you like it wet and miserable)...

13. Thanks Brancini, couldn't have put it better myself! In other news, happy to trade something for it!
14. Verdict after one practice session: most impressed, great versatility and playability. A bit on the fugly side, but I don't care. I noticed its output changes a lot between the three eq switch positions. When the boost is on the mids, the perceived volume is very high compared to the middle (no pre shape), and when the switch is in the other pre-shape position, the volume is very low. Bit of a shame, as I may have to work the amp between songs if I change switch, which I will.
15. The statement is true, from a scientific point of view. I am doubtful whether that is the right thing to do...
16. A 1x12 cabinet only has one speaker with a given impedance, in your case 4 ohm. I can't see any solution short of replacing the entire speaker with an 8ohm one. Whether that is not expensive depends on the speaker and your budget
17. Ok got it today. Looks really nice, and i've got a soft spot for natural wood basses. The neck is thin and flat, not much unlike a thin precision neck. I've only played it 20 minutes, but i'm already loving the versatility. I'll take to band practice tomorrow night and put it through its paces. Only one between this and the bassmaster funk will stay...
18. I have one and I love it. The problem with the louder E string is perhaps due to the stock string they put on. I have some very old slinkies on mine, I lowered the upper side of the split pickup, and the volume is pretty even. I like a bit of extra oomph when hitting the low E hard though. Soundwise, it's perhaps smoother and less hot than some of its american brethren, but it's my go-to bass for most situations. It sounds at least good with most amps.
19.
Looking at the pics of yours, gafbass, it looks like a two piece neck too, just back from the headstock, is that a slanted joint?
Mine also has a two-piece neck, with a similar joint slightly further up the neck towards the headstock. Mine seems to have a slightly more concave body, accommodating my liquid barley storage system...
20. To mine and Kripn ears it does, although it doesn't have the same preamp stage as a real bassman. In other words it does have a good amount of fender-ness to its sound, but it would be unfair to say that it sounds just like a real fender bassman. That is largely because I haven't played on in years and can't remember what they sound like exactly. An interesting point is that the power stage is a faithful reproduction of a bassman 100, so if you don't like the sound you can presumably re-build the pre to match a bassman one, and have a full copy.
21. If this thread hits 1000 views and no bites i'll start considering trades of any kind
22.
theres an active chrome pickup one on edinburgh gumtree, I've been chatting to the fella seems nice. about £200. ...which is a lot less than if Rob Green made a new one. Though I doubt they are set up anymore to make wood necks
I got in touch with the guy, hopefully i'll be able to try it and perhaps take it home...
