1. I have the Panasonic SC-BTT370 and it seems to do everything you're after.... Has an iPod/iPhone dock too and DNLA And wifi so you could easily stream music from another device... Highly recommended. There is an iPlayer app for Apple products, plus a really good one called TVCatchup.
2.
Thanks all! Had a look round & noticed that the ones with the 'Y' tuners are a bit lighter (and cheaper ) than the ones with the Fender-style clover heads. The 'Y' tuners would be half the weight of the Schallers on at the mo compared to a third less with the clovers. Just not sure if it would look a bit weird to put those tuners on a Fender-style instrument - what do you reckon? The bass I'm thinking of doing this to is here Cheers, B.
The Fender Jazz Deluxe 5 comes with Y tuner as standard anyway - so fine in my book
3. I have ULs on all of mine. One was an upgrade and it definitely cured a neck dive issue. I like them so much I've specified them as orignal fit on all my custom Shukers. IMO you won't get better. The quality of the gearing is great and they never move. You won't regret it. I bought my upgrade set off ebay and they did indeed come from the US. P
4.
power the PUPs of the same battery.
One of my Shukers has EMG's... 40J and 40TW to be precise, plus a 3 band pre and it all runs off the same batteries - in my case 18v, but the principle's the same. 9v will just give less headroom.
5. Tonetech....? http://www.tonetechluthiersupplies.co.uk/paint-and-lacquer/sort/category/wood-stains.html
6. Yeah - I was watching this on Ebay too... well done on getting it. Seems like a billy bargain for 300 squid.
7.
I got some D'Addario singles at 45 - 60 - 80 - 110, which roughly is balanced based on the Circle K chart
I've just done the same thing with some Rotos from Strings Direct, except of course I had to add a low B, for which I chose the .140. First impression... much better balance across the range - absolutely no doubt, and the .140 is definitely a taughter sound, but it's like playing an effing bridge cable and just a bit too unwieldy for me. Heaven knows what a .146 would be like. Which brings me back to the age old understanding that playing bass is a life of compromises, and that we're so much more on the edge than the little instruments ... I do think I'll stay with the 45-60-80-110 combo because that works, but I'll be trying a .135 at the bottom. If that's a decent compromise between playability and compliance then I'll live happily... The bizarre thing is that I really don't think I had a problem before and this was more of an experiment, but now I have tried, I realise that stock sets aren't the best compromise. Anyone want to buy a .140 Roto Swingbass, barely used, and cut down for a Shuker custom build?
8. The Force truly must be at work here... Minutes after my previous post Jon mailed me about my ongoing build and cured my GAS! Sigh But a bump for a GORGEOUS bass...
9. I'm having palpitations..... God I'd like this....
10. Oh Lordy.... just off to change my pants.
11.
Does more winds = higher tension then? (I like higher tension )
Not per se, but if you wind from top to bottom of the tuner post it gives maximum break angle over the nut, so you may need a little more string length to reach the bottom of the post. The string is likely to want to naturally migrate to the point on the post that has the least break angle (IME) hence a string tree might be needed to eucourage the string to the right place....
12. All, I read Alex's articly about balanced tension strings with real interest. It all seems sooooo logical to me and it made me realise that I'd come to the same conclusion, but without the science which I'm very happy to leave to Mr C. To cut to the chase I really want to try a set of CIrcle K 43 - 142's on one of my 34" Shuker 5ers, but ordering a single set is way expensive. If I ordered 5 sets it makes the per set price reasonable after shipping, import duty and VAT at around £34. So my question is... are there four more folks out there that would like to give a set a try? The deal would be that I finance the 5 sets and get them delivered to me then forward on to you in exchange for the cost price, which should be around £34 for the strings and at a guess a couple of quid for postage. I have absolutely no interest in making a profit out of this and its just a way of me getting a set to try at a reasonable price! If anyone's interested PM me. If I get more than four responses I may be persuaded to order more sets. Cheers Pete
13. At the risk of awakening painful memories that are beginning to fade... Jon would do it!
14. 15 - 20 years ago I used to do loads of pit work... mostly semi pro theatre stuff. I'd had a bad day at work and turned up at the theatre in Coventry with my customary 15 mins to go... only to find it closed and realise that it was the venue from the week before and I should be in Lichfield... Lichfield CIvic Hall doesn't (or didn't then) have a pit so I had to walk in through the audience about half way into the first half... Doh....
15. Weekend bumparoo and further price drop......

Martin Just bought a tin of Warwick surface finisher off me... he was a total gent, paid immediately (being generous with the postage - at his insistence I should add) and kept me entertained with his great sense of humour... Nice one Martin. Cheers Pete

18.
Just spotted this!! - Did Truckstop Win it? Will.

Sorry, I didn't see this at all - I don't really use this part of the forum
Ditto... I would have done. Sorry. Hope Truckstop got it. P
19. All, I'm probably going to regret parting with this, but it was bought with the intention of doing some intimate 'unplugged' gigs, but that's gone by the by and I'm doing more studio/session work and gigs are standard electric fayre (or double bass). So here it is. A Michael Kelly Dragonfly 5 custom in Tobacco Burst (a 'custom' finish). All the usual Dragonfly embellishments and the quilt top make it just as purdy as can be. I imported it myself from the USA about 4 years ago (I think) - before they had distribution over here. It's in virtually mint condition having been only gigged a twice. Here's the link to MK's website for more details http://www.michaelke...nfly-5-string-1 Mine is of course the earlier version. The neck is straight and true, the frets are even and show no wear, all the hardware is in A1 condition. The electrics are 100% and come with a new Duracell battery! Currently strung with Elites phosphor bronze. Included is a Tribal Planet gig bag - the hybrid soft/hard type - which is really excellent and provides virtually hard case protection at gig-bag weight. I'd prefer a pick-up, or I'm prepared to deliver/meet up say an hour's radius of Leeds or High Wycombe, but seeing as it came all the way from Texas to me in a cardboard box, I will ship, but I'll use a reputable, insured carrier. We can chat about the cost of shipping but it's not included in the price. Latest model, new, is £579 in GAK. Sale price [s]£395[/s] [s]£375[/s] [s]£350 [/s]£300 Any questions or for more photos, please don't hesitate to ask..
