That's interesting, I was a Windows 7 fan when I had a PC but I'm a bit restricted for space nowadays, which is why I have to use a laptop.

You could do worse than an ‘all-in-one’ I have an old Lenovo that is still just about up to the job.
I am looking to upgrade but the last box I tried went back as it had a pathetic power supply attachment.

  2. I get a few days off this time of year and normally get a bit of time to sort the garden, but it's been persistently raining so I got a chance to stay indoors !

Happy families , I was hoping for a slight edge to it , but it's come out as a wholesome waltz

Ez drummer does his job, a few strings via garage band on iPad, I play the rest on piano, Gretsch Junior Jet bass and an Ibby 6 string  through waves gtr3, ozone 8 to rinse it off all in Reaper

    Simple rules

✔️ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline.

✖️ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on

✖️ No Bagpipes/panpipes , everyone had the chance last month, so there!

✖️ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you..

Deadline-wise, we will go for Midnight on the 24th (but probably until tea time on the 25th)

A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be lovely.

    Good luck, Have fun

  4. Happy Christmas one and all, It's official, it's time to have a listen to the Basschat collective offering for the annual cover song challenge.

Some of these have been recorded during the year and some have been recorded for the challenge, but they are all just a celebration for the end of term

Normal voting rules apply, choose your favourite 3, and the winner gets the kudos of printing one of Douglas's iconic certificates.

@sammybee   My effort is a cover of Tom Misch's - It Runs Through Me recorded by my daughter and I earlier this year

this is a Temporary link to the challenge thread I will update in due course

@Dad3353  As it's all we have from this past year, here's a medley of 'punter's' videos, taken at our rare outing,

3 @AndyTravis     It DOES have to be a Christmas track 😂

@ezbass  A recorded rehearsal with my band from earlier this year. A rough recording, even more roughly mastered in GarageBand (I don't know what I'm doing really).

    @Leonard Smalls

For the cover challenge I thought I'd do a completely original song wot is all my own work. Any similarity to the Sylvester disco classic with a very similar name is purely co-incidental! This also features my wife on backing vox!

6 @Nail Soup  This is a song I've been meaning to cover for a couple of years now, but never found an approach I've been happy with - until now

7 @MoonBassAlpha  I've chosen the Kula Shaker tune Start All Over from their "K" album, as it's got a Beatles - like vibe, and I thought my friend Rob would enjoy singing it (massive Beatles fan)
With invaluable input from Phil Beavis (organ) and Paul Ibbott (Horn section), the guitar, bass, backing vocals and drums are me. Tried to keep this fairly close to the original this time, subject to my own limitations!

@SH73  I decided to cover the Blade Runner 1982 soundtrack the end song that has been used as an intro on Somewhere on Tour in 86 and The Future Past Tour in 2023

@upside downer   I've recorded a version of the Pink Panther theme using the arrangement that the superb Russian surf-pop band Messer Chups use on their track Pink Pantheratu

10  Lurksalot    I got Lurksalittle to help out on this one

11  @skankdelvar  What ho! It's an old Joe Jackson song that's got nowt to do with Christmas and featuring Mr Gordon Gecko.

    12  @BreadBin     late entry

A great way to end the recording year , I've really enjoyed it and look forward to doing it all again next year.

3 votes each, voting will finish at midnight on the last day of the year.

Cheers , Salut , Nostrovia  and Slainte Mhath

  5. Can the next person through let me know if this plays please.

I seem to be unable to get Soundcloud to play anything on this PC all day, this might get messy if it doesn't work for me by voting time !!

    Tout de suite Harold

    ...... I need to try a new upload .....

    Pooh

they all play on my phone , that has me stumped then !

  6. I have decided on a tune to record, got the basics down , and just need to ruin it by putting my voice all over it .

just thinking now , Lurksalittle is back home , I might try and persuade her to join in 😂

I'd give the WD40 variant a go, but I've had the same can of Servisol for probably 20 years, and at this rate it'll outlive me.

I’ve got a can of own brand I bought from Tandy back in the day , I don’t use it much either 😁

  8. Well done to @AndyTravis who won the November challenge, he will in due course be invited to post the picture for the January challenge, however, with another year about to disappear from the calendar,  we need to celebrate whatever music floats our individual boats.

It is thus time to let us hear that incredible cover version, whether it is a full-blown studio production, a garage band knock up, or a quick take from an inspirational night on the pop, we want to hear it.

Any cover version that you or your band have/will have recorded at any point between 1st January and 23rd December will be welcome.

    december23.thumb.jpg.dc4d5e820239781ca3f7d3f5e0a62fd4.jpg

All of the usual rules apply with a few additional caveats:

It doesn't have to be a Christmas song.

You're welcome to submit anything recorded this year (not just from December), so there's no excuse for those of you in cover bands not to enter.

Don't go lifting any samples from whatever song you intend to cover, as that will breach the usual terms and conditions leading to extreme punitive measures.

This time of year a bagpipe truce is allowed! But that still doesn't make them right!

I think that covers everything , so go for it

deadline is midnight on 23rd December , so dive in

Funnily enough, I never liked Elvis Costello back in the day, he wasn't punk enough, but we have added 'Pump it Up' to our set list and listening to some songs I haven't heard in ages, like 'Watching the detectives', I'm starting to like him.

I like a lot if his stuff, but after a properly crap gig at the Liverpool philharmonic last year he should have given everyone their money back.

I know if people offer a product or service and properly fluff it, the payment for it becomes moot , if a show properly fluffs it , well, we can all just suck up our £85 a head ticket price can’t we 🤬

  10. It seems like a bit of a short month this time but with December next week, I guess it's time to get voting!

Just a quick note regarding December, it will, as tradition, be a cover song challenge, any cover you have recorded over the year will also be welcome.

As per usual, I have had all year to think of a cover to do, but have not yet decided!

    Anyway back to business...

The Inspiration for November was chosen by last month's worthy winner @SH73  who offered us ....

    "Something futuristic"

So please use your 3 Votes to pick your faves from the following...

    @AndyTravis     Its a holding track , I think (  ;) Lurks)

2 @Dad3353   Just keep going. Don't look up, keep your eyes down and try to look natural...

3 @Boodang    The image reminds me a of the game Bio Shock. With that in mind this is the result.

We had grand little Lurks over last weekend , and he played the piano for a while , when I say played, we set the soundscape, I hit the record button, and he had some fun making a lot of the noises.

It was ideally a soundtrack for one of our 'expeditions' in a star wars kind of way, but I did a bit of cutting and restructuring and I thought it fitted this quite well, if a little dark.

5 @Leonard Smalls     I got to thinking about a certain type of person for whom the future is only acceptable if it stays exactly the same as the present, hence a ditty about some bloke who won't never grow up.

6 @Wolfram    The soundtrack to a carefully-planned and executed mission to rescue the Princess and her people. Channelling a little Vangelis maybe, and segueing into a full-on dance track, I present "Follow Me"!

7 @MoonBassAlpha    I got a strong Blade Runner Vibe from the pic, so there's a bit of that ambient element, but then I DO enjoy bashing the drums too

8 @sammybee   the 4 in the foreground look like they are heading home after a heavy night in the club as the sun rises..

@upside downer   Get me out of the Paranoid City, where the trees are scorched and the living is gritty, oh, won't you please take me home? A wary and weary band of cyberpunks plot their route through the mean streets where fear, suspicion and mistrust rule.

10   @fingers211    At some time in the future, (actually it's 18 minutes after the Rush album), if you have a thought of your own or one deemed to be out of the collective, then a blue light glows round your head only seen by the "Thought Spotters" . Once spotted, you're escorted out the city gate !!

11 @BabyBlueSound  Halloween is long gone, but the Post-Halloween Prowl is still on! Cheer up, hit the derelict streets, get your digital sweeties, and try to have some fun for once in this wasteland

12  @SH73   Human T`Error inspired by Terminator movies

    Weighed in , Weighed in

That's 12 pieces of original compositions for your delectation , have fun listening and choosing your Favourite 3

Voting ends at midnight November 30th
