A superb blowout of joint winners in April, all on the money with excellent tuneage.
By a marvelously community spirited resolution , Jean-luc Pickguard has provided us with a lovely image ....
"Ralph the Bulldog"
I chuckled muchly when this presented itself in my PM's !
So, we need rules ,
✅ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline.
❌ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on
❌ No Bagpipes, May be ... May not .. unless as a background ambience at -65db
❌ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you..
Deadline-wise, we will go for Midnight on the 24th May ... but I am out on the Sunday morning so you might get a few more hours polishing and rolling in glitter till Tea time on the 25th
A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be super duper smashing lovely.
Good luck, Have fun

Well done guys , it was difficult to pick a winner out of those!
I’ll do the certificates later , in very small print , but we need to choose a photo.
I reckon the first one of you to acknowledge your fine victory on this thread can send me a picture, and I’ll put it up this evening.

**PUT YOUR SHADES ON**
This might be the brightest thread you have ever seen on BC !!
A most excellent winning tune from @Leonard Smalls brought out his choice of image for our April shenanigans .
He suggested that " Looks like folks voted for The Funk! So piccy here:"
Did it draw the Funk out of our compositioners , well, you will have to have a listen and judge for yourselves...
having judged , please then vote for you favourite 3
1 @Chiliwailer I really liked the photo, it made me think of the intensity of chaos caused by GICs and how that'd be spot on for a new pedal I'd got recently - so in this tune the GIC attack starts at around 35 seconds!
2 @Leonard Smalls I've now rolled it in 3 coats of glitter and 2 coats of oak-stain varnish, so here's some ambient grooves in both 6:8 and 4:4 time. Possibly.
3 @Baloney Balderdash Here I take you on a timeless, time dissolving, musical folk drone journey slowly flowing down a fluctuating colorful stream of consciousness, with the help of my brand new EHX Pico Deep Freeze sample sustainer.
4 @upside downer Jah UD sits at his laptop staring at the swirling, whirling, wobbling colours draining downwards into his keyboard and decides it's probably time to kick the hallucinogenics into touch, but not before laying down this pop reggae curiosity.
5 @Jean-Luc Pickguard This is about Quantum mechanics, specifically that quarks are never found alone — they are always stuck together in particles like mesons, which are made of a quark and an antiquark, or baryons — like protons and neutrons.
6 Lurksalot every time I tried to do a bit something got in the way , so I thought the picture could be ...Interference
There are only 6 but we will stick to the 3 votes and see what happens
voting will close at midnight on 30th April
I told you to put your shades on

My won't be finished by the end of tomorrow. I'm out
While the deadline is midnight tomorrow , I won’t get to setting the vote thread till tea time when I get home from work , as long as it’s here by then all is cool , and if they’re anything like mine , they are never finished , they are set out into the world on a hope and a prayer to find their way in this cruel, cruel world.

Loads of bands at the Nantwich festival today, but stand out was junkyard dog blues duo , oh boy , seen them three times before and wow, engagement , playing skills and a great gig experience rates the boys very high in my book

A bit late to the party reading the comments , but it looks like everything is in order.
mine is coming along , but I’ve got a ghost in the drum kit 😳
for some bizzare reason, half way in the intro, a random bar of drums bursts in , there is no midi in the track , and the only way I can do anything with it, is to kill the volume at the place it kicks in . I haven’t the faintest idea where why it is being triggered

well suspenders no longer

There are no pranks here, it is the April Composition Challenge, or as Mr Smalls would describe it... Compo-Compo
I say no pranks, but as the eclectic @Leonard Smalls was the worthy winner for March , we might have expected a left field choice of picture , but even so.....be prepared to be enlightened!
In Lenny's own words...
"G'day!
Looks like folks voted for The Funk! So piccy here:"
I was perusing my science periodicals (as if!) and came across this (*) which reminded me of an attempted jazzy jam from a number of years ago. The organiser handed everyone a bit of paper with abstract colours on it and said "we'll be using this as the basis for our improvisation"... We made a proper racket but I did meet a really good trombonist!
*it's actually a wavelet periodigram showing Geomagnetically Induced Currents in power distribution lines (colour indicates power) as a function of time... It demonstrates the problems "solar weather" can cause in our modern techy stuff - there was actually a 9 hour power outage in Canada as a direct result of GICs!
Well there you go, a little learning along the way
Usual simple rules apply
✅ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded between now and the deadline.
❌ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on
❌ No Bagpipes, I think they might cause a few GIC's , but you can go and play them in Canada!
❌ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you..
Deadline-wise, we will go for Midnight on the 24th April
A line or two of blurb as usual for the vote thread will be super duper smashing lovely.
Good luck, Have fun

@MoonBassAIpha took a deserved win for February and of course, had the honour of the picture choice for March.
He Chose , he Posted and he thus Mused...
"I've been thinking about the photo and this came to mind. I was working a short contract in Oxford with a group who make instruments for satellite and lander missions and had a spell in the clean room. I thought this could suggest more sinister stories though..."
Thus inspiring the following pieces for your entertainment .
Please choose your favourite 3 tracks and vote accordingly
1 @Baloney Balderdash As last time recorded through this setup (bar the added Orange Juice overdrive in place of clean blend with the Turbo RAT distortion) :
2 @Leonard Smalls My song is meant as accompaniment for our Grand Theft Auto hero's getaway which was top-fuelled by nicking the large cylinder of nitro (*)...
3 @AndyTravis In my head it worked…I’d best describe it as a challenging listen
4 Lurksalot Its a soundscape as a theme to a scene that may be transpiring
5 @Jean-Luc Pickguard Our gowned-up hero is actually an undercover Roman Catholic scientist working under direction of the Pope in the top secret research laboratorium deep below the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican City. In the Eucharist Magnification experiment, scientific methods are used to electronically multiply the benediction beam, and exponentially amplify and concentrate the consecration field generated during the sacrament of the Eucharist. The objective of this experiment is to transubstantiate a loaf of sourdough bread into the reanimated head of the Messiah.
6 @alibabu This months entry is more of a short interlude than a full song, but it is a start!
7 @upside downer A dystopian tale of chilling proportions. An exploratory way of dealing with miscreants is underway, conducted by scientists at a secret governmental location. It's all so clinical and a frosty reception awaits the poor souls who are the recipients of this cryotherapy.
8 @MoonBassAlpha There's a very non-benign alien secured in the lab. We found an annoying frequency that it doesn't like either.
It's dark sticky mass squirms in discomfort until it expires. Or does it...Well there we have it, fantastic stuff yet again!
Vote for your favourite 3

No great technical things to say , piano main with undercurrents from a couple of synths, a few percussive throw ins and some sound FX from my phone.

Is it allowed to swap out the track I contributed with with another recording?
Same track, just a different recording.
No problem choosing a different recording as long as it is done in the time frame of the challenge .-

Some time in the future, but going to see Wolfgang Flur of Kraftwerk in Chester in September. Shall get my pogoing boots on!
I did a little bit of digging on him , but to be honest I didn’t find much that I could handle more than 10 minutes of.
The 10 minutes was OK but I’d had enough, I’d be back in the Golden Eagle after 11 mins 😁
it also looked like he just pressed play on his laptop then danced a bit 😁I’ll be in Nantwich at some point over Easter , there is normally a good day to be had at the festival visiting stages and pubs
