1. It needs a vote to a) compile the entries so that BCers dont need to search the whole thread to publicise the completion of the months work c) enable those interested to heap praise on the 3 very worthy and superb pieces of work that has been offered for appraisal. My HUGE respect and appreciation for the both the effort and results achieved , I am humbled to be allowed to compete with you guys each month
2. The first gig for a while as we tend to have august off. A party at a camp site where our 'stage' was an open fronted shed it was in deepest Denbighshire and was a touch nippy , I was amazed at the way the guitarists coped with frozen fingers It was also bizarre in that the party goers were arranged around the perimeter of the field gathered around burning fire baskets to keep warm . they all seemed to enjoy it although you could barely see the peeps never mind hear any clapping . The host kept asking for songs we hadn't played for ages despite agreeing a setlist prior to the show , however as I drove, the others had had a couple of beers and were thus tempted to have a go . It was great really seat of your pants stuff , nailing going underground with cold fingers having not played it for months was very pleasing . the only downside was that some of the smoke from the fires drifted our way and the warbler struggled a bit as he is a touch asthmatic and gulping smoke flavoured oxygen tends to limit his abilities a touch. A real bullet dodged with the weather too , it was forecast horrible , but held off , it would have been a total disaster with rain . Still , a great night overall , hogroast ,cake, an early (ish) finish and an invite back as he wants to organise a mini festival based around what we did for them .
3. We use a community centre, £10 for the evening, bargain , and we only pay when we use it , but sundays are ours every time we want it .
4. As Mrs Lurks keeps paying for my new basses as pressies , I dont have a problem there , however I do get to pay for the guitars/instruments that I buy in case Lurksalittle ever gets around to taking up the challenge . That said, there was a raised eyebrow when she found out that the last £300 she spent for one at christmas was only the deposit . Still if she likes the look of them she doesn't mind as they will look quite 'cool' when they hang on the wall ( when I have finished the room that is )
5.
Just a thought, with how many sweaty people will use the bass, is there a decent way to stop the sigs rubbing off?
Just a thought , can you get them to sign the book aswell , just in case ?
6.
I've played in duo's with just guitar / bass and just simply tapping your feet to your own internal metronome seems to work well .
Metronome is the word , it becomes you , you wil feel it , always practice with one
7. Very solid sound in that lot , excellent stuff, I haven't listened to all of your stuff to compare the feel , but you certainly all give it some welly , well done the effort seems to have paid off in this lot
8. Focusright Scarlett 2i2 here also , a real gem of a bit of kit , it really helped me as it was the first bit of audio kit that really seemed straightforward and simple enough to work straight out of the box and does everything I have needed so far
9. Many thanks Dad ( if I may also be so familiar ) I think maybe I was a touch trigger happy but then, in the overall scheme of things I did try to use them as a snare effect with the necessary randomness thrown in . I am sure the soundcloud treatment squashes the mix , It had far more dynamic range on my system before I uploaded it and seems to have a smiley face EQ thrown at it . Still , I think the idea comes through OK , I will Try to catch up on my listening soooon.
10.
Yes it isn't easy keeping track of it;'s whereabouts, but generally the most recent posts will give an indication. Also there's the Map of Honour - see link below. I can't for the life of me remember who's updating it - apologies
I guess he must remain anonymous the route is listed as are the gigs and any mentions that crop up at the time
11. I guess we were chomping at the bit for this one , mine is up now . forgive me for not listening to the others yet, I do like to wait for the voting and listen to them all in the same frame of mind , I can then somehow appear to come to a more reasoned approach to a vote . I know it sounds daft , but I enjoy doing it that way and I don't get disheartened by judging my own against the others already in . anyway enough of that , https://soundcloud.com/lurksalot/and-breathe I hope it provides a bit of ....er ... something
12. it is called latency, and yes it happens though to varying degrees , I noticed it a lot with my older kit but I am using a fast computer and a focusright interface with reaper and it is barely noticable , but I thinjk the softawrae has a built in adjustment of some sort .
13.
And following Bristol, London on Monday, to meet John Taylor of Duran Duran!!!
I put John Taylor on the list of bass players you started in the other thread James , do I win
14.
anyone up for a collaboration (if that's allowed in the rules)? I need vocals for my piece (i think) and cannot sing a note...... or have a microphone (thank god then i would be tempted to try)
find someone who can sing and there will be a queue for a collaboration
15. Reaper is FOC to evaluate , and only reaaly needs paying for on a conscience thing , I have learned soooo much using it that I payed for it after a month or so
16.
I use a Zoom as well. Connecting with the pc using usb and recording using audacity. The only prob l have is I find I don't have any sound output when recording. So I'm playing acoustically. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
I found audacity a real PITA when trying to get it to talk to the interface and back , In reaper it seems to work sweet , but everything also appears to be simpler with a dedicated interface somehow , I guess its the fact it is purely made to do 1 job IYSWIM .
17. Reaper for me , my zoom pedals have a usb output aswell so I could record stuff through that before I got a proper interface .
18. Fantastic stories, its great when things like that happen
19.
I once had a 5000W rig. Powered by a Yamaha P5000S power amp. The cabs wouldn't have survived if I'd turned it up though.
I have always thought the Yamaha product names a bit odd in this regard , a P5000S is rated at 500W/channel into 8 ohm cabs , it might not have scared the cabs as much as you thought it would
20. I drove past on my way to Macc for a family party and saw the signs , I tried to google the details , but got no signal .
21. I bought from Mark , I knew what I wanted and needed a retailer to order it for me, I was given 2 names from the importer and had a few ideas from the US , Mark responded straight away , we agreed the price and he always answered emails and phone calls very promptly. In fact the price was well on par with the US import I had found, and the order had been placed a month before the other retailer bothered answering my initial enquiry . I do understand the potential frustration of tyre kickers to a retailer , but if you know your clients you can identify them fairly sharply , and while mistakes can be made , if those who place an order are looked after ,the business is a good one .
22.
"., and then aliens landed, which was unexpected, and..."
always expected , it was just the timing could have been better , what with the dog and the dinosaur and everything , still, the car passed the MOT , the wife got to see some shows , I sailed to the outer hebrides, the daughter made me queue for 2 hours to ride the smiler , I got pissed at the palace of westminster , I got the hedges cut , got singing lessons for Lurksalittle ( hopefully that one should eventually score some points on this topic ) just enough sunburn , a photo for the august comp, and got back to work to face the inevitable, now settled in again , should just about get the mix comp done ready to get some time in for septembers composition, start the prep for the 'studio refurb' ( redecorate the playroom ) .....and breathe , its been a good summer . Hope you get control of your workload Paul , good luck
23. I dont tend to respond to these threads because there is so much subjectivity that you never learn anything about the topic only peoples opinions. In general the human condition wants to improve and get better and maybe our guitars are a function of that , but sometimes it is the constant marketing bullshit that goes with everything that leads us that way. The grass my friends is always greener ............until you decide that your own grass does just fine thanks , and further more you are not really bothered what anyone else thinks of it
24. [quote name='RhysP' timestamp='1377723570' post='2191038'] WHO?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ySJ8CZmq2V8 not inspirational as a bassist as I said, but quite big recognition wise
