1.
You're picking some corkers today! Another great band . . . and another great player (Duane Allman) lost far too early.
yes that was a huge shame. that guy was a talent.
2. does anyone find that a P bass can lack definition. i guess it depends on your amplification. i find a jazz can do it a little better. also i reckon the jazz tone has more character. only mine.
3. sorry to mega post but this is sooooooooo good. live at Fiilmore East is fantastic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCRS4DRmf_w
4. I'm always gonna look up to people on BassChat. i really appreciate the thoughts. thanks Dad3353. well no its not my thing. but i would like to have a go. the drummer knows my funk reputation.
5.
Yes. This!
his voice is flawless.!!
6.
Another Creedence track that you don't hear very often; I love this one.
that is so good.!!
7.
Why should we not get you started on Steely Dan?
because i will bore you to death. imo they are the cleverest band to ever write music.
8. i love America, had an affair with the Allman Brother's. don't get me started on Steely Dan. but i love this band.
9. that is slick.. up to the top you go.
10. might be awkward for me to say "hey guys , I'm new but lets tighten up the rhythm section" and hey your vocals could do with some polishing. I'm not really after a few pints at a gig.. and i don't want to come across as snobbish, but i would like to play bass to make the music a little better. I've known the drummer for years and he knows my playing. its very different to the previous guy. I'm no Pino Palladino, but i don't think that style of, less is more approach would go a miss. imo the previous bassist is putting in his fills in the wrong place and too often. only my opinion or maybe the endless slap might work. yeah they would love that.!
11. thank you for your opinion. well they have asked me to play bass for them.its not really my thing but i always like to play with other musicians. but i agree, the rhythm section section needs holding down and being more uniformed, i think maybe is what skittish means.?
12. honest opinions are welcome..
13.
I'm guessing it'll be either Ida or Prince playing bass surely?
see OP. could be wrong, but its what I've heard.
14. Just spotted this. love Clouds, ordered the album. will see. does anyone have it.? a link to Clouds. i think Andrew Gouche is playing on this album. 15. is it a trend or something.? it just doesn't compute for me.
16. following on from my slagging off of that drummer.. i thought you might appreciate more of my bolshie opinion . this is possibly one of the best albums I've bought/heard for a long time. Really clever musician. great pianist. Great harmonies. thought some might like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7lorcq9WqI
17. just wanted to say, i was probably a bit strong in my opinions, and sounded like a dick. but i can't get away from the fact that he looks very ridiculous doing this sort of thing. only my op. i apologise for coming across as snooty. it certainly wasn't my intention. but hind site and such. its just not my bag, and should have worded my post differently.
18.
What about self respect? He's put himself out there as a very animated showman and it's put him in a position where a lot of people are talking about him. I'm sure he's got plenty of self respect-if he didn't he wouldn't have capitalised on the success of the first video.
i don't really care, it has no substance for me I'm afraid. just a guy writhing around playing drums to a rubbish cover on a show. i did say it was just my opinion.
19.
I don't think he's a great player by any stretch but since the 'drummer at the wrong gig' video he's had companies throwing gear at him and been getting loads of publicity, including appearing in an episode of The Office. The showboating clearly worked for him.
i really don't care about gear or any endorsement.. not everything is based on becoming famous or getting gear thrown at you. and its not about his talent as a drummer. its the way that he projects himself. (no snootiness intended) its all about a bit of self respect.
20. I don't like slagging people off, but this guy has gone to far.!!! What the hell does this guy think he's doing.!!?? i looked in horror when i saw this guy drumming.. he looks like he's having a fit at 0.40. does he actually think this looks cool.??? and he stole the show.? the music is very cheesy too, with the cabaret man on vocals.. i hate stupid show boating like this. its as empty as a cheeseburger wrapper. only my opinion of course. 21. in the words of Alan Partridge. " lets forget about all of this." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyS1MDwQAhc
22. im a big Pino fan but to say that Sharay Reed is an "alright player" is pretty bizarre.. of course this is down to taste. i would say he's one of the most technically gifted players alive today. different horses and all.
23. i feel like the middle man at my own crap party, just waiting for me other mates. Online scrabble.?
24.
Really? Look at their credits, there's your answer. I don't get all the hype about Sharay Reed. He's a decent player, but I wouldn't go much further. Pino's history, and the fact that he reinvented himself and still gets called 30 years later, puts him in a different league to Sharay.
I'm aware of there credits. My point is who do prefer to listen to. being so similar, but very different some may see. i think you sell Sharay Reed short Doddy.
25. Yes this sounds like a TalkBass thread, but all i was wondering was (if you have heard and aware of both bassists) what is your preference. Neither slap a lot, both great finger style bassist's, both play amazing notes, both have fantastic technique. For me its Pino. just because of his history, his taste in playing.. its a hard one, because of Sharay's groove. but Pino can groove. I'm really interested to hear peoples thoughts on these masters.
