1. sorry i was a little blunt Timmo.
2.
They were a fabulous band. I love all of their stuff and it still sounds a fresh today to me as did way back then and this live version of Sun Goddess is a gem.
thats so good Geoff. !
3.
I like them. September is a classic. I think it maybe more a case of going back to your childhood type of thing. I am into all trhe old disco type stuff. Some good stuff in that era.I never had the opportunity to see them, but a workmate said they were the best band he has seen live. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs069dndIYk
jeez. i think there as relevant today as they were back then. its what you take from it. imo.
4. Having a family BBQ today and playing some EWF.. not saying its to everyones taste, but I've never heard anyone in the past say. "this is sh*t" its a bit like putting on some Stevie Wonder or the Beatles. there is either a bit of respect or it just sounds good to the ears. the kids are dancing anyways, and the old ones. do you have a favourite EWF classic, or non classic. ? this is just superb. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYnVMoO-EPc
5. is it only me who thinks certain leather straps look like your in ZZ Top. maybe I've missed the few that don't.... nothing wrong with that of course.
6. can't real fathom why Marta is even mentioned in this thread, of the Female with the best technical skills.?? although i dig her playing, she's only really playing what she has heard… literally.
7.
+1 for Live At The Quick, also get Live Art (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_Art). Then when the nights are drawing in, get their Christmas album Jingle All The Way, featuring their take on "The Twelve Days Of Christmas", each "day" has its own instrument and the appropriate time signature, and there's a guest appearance from Mongolian throat singer Kongar-ol Ondar.
can i be honest, yes i can. i would rather listen to a cat dying, than that. doesn't make it bad, just not for me. hurts my ears..
8.
And the Lets Go Crazy from Manchester... Bass solo approx 2m23s.
just spotted this.. Superb.
9. Don't get wrong i dig Meshell, but Debra is killer.
10.
I Have to learn that bassline...... Funky as!!!! Guess I'm buying a new album myself too then
yeah its great, one of those simple funky ones.
11. i know nothing about them apart from, i know Victor plays bass for them/him. i watched this and was blown away. why doesn't everyone see Victor in this way.? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie5QnUAkv1M any albums i could listen to that would enlighten me. cheers.
12. i don't think there is a definitive album of those 3, or any incognito album. I've been listening to Incognito since Jazz Funk and before with Bluey with the Warriors and Light of the World, maybe 25 years ago. still can't think of a favourite album. there all great. there are so many like Eleven, Tales from the Beach, Who Needs Love. even splinter groups like Inner Shade, Citrus Sun.. Beneath the Surface is just great though, the soul in that album is just….. end of waffle. Tribes vibes and Scribes Positivity 100 and Rising this has always been great. its just Incognito for me..
13. Was listening to this album today. Later albums were good but didn't quite have the impact that this one did. One of the greats of the so called Acid Jazz era. Modern UK Jazz Funk is better for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUTzGPoalso http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zx0mc5fa15k
14. Steely Dan . AJA Incognito. Tribes Vibes Tribes and Scribes Led Zepplin. Physical Graffiti Anita Baker. Rapture Prince. Everything The Brand New Heavies. Trunk Funk Rage Against The Machine. --- Maxwell. The Urban Hang Suite think I've covered most of my wants here.
15.
Kudos to you Bub, must be something in the air with all this gear being given away.
i remember being skint when i wanted new gear. very frustrating. there is one condition Cameron. you have to practice 12 hours a day.!
16. Cameron. i have a Brooklyn Gear strap that i never use. your welcome to have it. its is the most comfortable high end strap I've ever used apart from the Sadowsky strap i use now. very adjustable, wide, thick and comfortable.. way better than the Mono in my opinion. just PM me your address details. and i will send it over. if you want it of course. here is a pic for reference.
17.
Not watched the videos but it is interesting to note how the Jazz divas of the last few decades are wearing less and less on their cd covers (look at Diana Krall's cds in order of release). It is not a particularly 'noble' trait and, frankly, demeans all involved. Great musicians but do they need this?
with all respect, have you ever seen Anita Baker do this.? nope. you ever seen Lalah Hathaway do this. ? Espransa Spalding, Patricia Barber. Stacy Kent. i don't think that any these artists, show off there bodies, on the cover of there albums to sell there music..
18.
If you ask me, she uses her boobs for attention to get her videos views. People are took in. In my opinion she's nothing great, just another female singer and guitarist, as good as the last.
im so with JBF. boring self obsessed girl. if i want to watch soft porn we all know where to go. it should be music first, but this is good looks with some music attached to it. seen it, got the no substance tshirt. Marta does it well, without flashing her boobs. yes she's good looking but you can tell Marta really digs bass playing and music. and she can play the bass. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRusbYIyRNI
19. Spotted this on YT, and really enjoyed it. he's a master at melodic playing, its a pleasure watching him play fingerstyle like this..
20. just love these UV70' 5's. the tone is just WOW. the B is fat.
21.
I like how you've put importance on the ambiance and lighting.
maybe its just me. i really don't like stark lighting. makes me feel like I'm in a bus shelter. put it this way i wouldn't want to fall asleep under a single bulb in the ceiling. i think ambience is really important when making music. an aspect maybe, that a lot of people don't recognise. each to there own though.
22. seems i didn't spot this thread and made another. thanks for the heads up Mornats. anyways here is my space. lighting is really important to me when playing /recording. i have lighting under the table. something to do with mood i guess. i have a friend who records under a single bulb in the ceiling. can't do the recording in a crack den thing. got to be a comfortable warm space.
23. thankyou i missed that.
24. possibly the greatest soul/groove record I've ever heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8bpYg-jCNQ
