1. I'm another one who hates the feel of those anodised scratchplates. Loved my Japanese 57RI Precision, great bass.
  2.
One of my all time favourites!
Me too.
  3.
Agree, although I'm biased as I have one
They're great basses. Played quite a few but never actually owned one.
  4.
It's a Laurus. Federico Malaman can be seen playing one in a lot of his videos.
That's an abomination.
  5.
Might have been the cobra
The later models had a compressor with a red button, but the 80s ones didn't as far as I can remember.
  6.
If I remember rightly the red button on these was a 'compressor' which actually acted like an extreme limiter.
The red button was a bass boost, no compressor on these.

    Acoustic Bass

You're better off just using a normal bass, acoustic basses are a waste of time.
  8.
I think the Kramer headstock is absolutely fantastic, it's distinctive, well-proportioned, compact and shiny! What's not to like?
I've always loved the Kramer headstock too, one of my favourites.
  9.
Did anyone ever buy an Axe from the Kerrang adverts? I think a lot of it came down to poor setups and lack of experience because all the rubbish gear I played then that I have since played as an adult seems MUCH better. Unless it was just the good ones that survived?
It's probably got a lot to do with just being a better player too.
  10.
I don't think there's a headstock shape i really like except for the Ibanez Musician style (but that only works with 4 strings) or the Stingray types without that big ball of wood in the top like Fenders (i do love 4+1 configs and really hate the Fender 5-in-line style). But i just posted to remind all you folks of this one:
The Bongo headstock would definitely be on my list of worst headstocks of all time, along with Wal, Warwick, the Nanyo Bass Collection stuff & the newer G&L headstocks with that pointy bit on the bottom.
  11.
Do any of the major courier/delivery companies? Whenever I have read the small print the outcome appears to be the same. They are happy to take the money when you pay for enhanced "cover" though.
I don't think any of them do, or if they do it's only a small amount of cover - £100 or so. I've only ever used Parcelforce, sent loads of instruments with them over the years & never had any problems.
  12. In my 38 years of playing I've always been far more disappointed by "name" basses than I have by cheap ones.
  13. Some Hondo models were pretty good basses, the SD Curlee licenced one was very nice.

    Spector Euro LX5

Is that the one that was on Ebay? Great basses, I loved my Euro 5LX.
  15. There are lots of chemicals in shoe polish, including solvents. I personally wouldn't use it on a bass neck.
  16.
Recently picked up a mint G bass and I am astounded with the sound, tone, etc. £200 is just incredible value. Do I need to do anything special to maintain the carbon neck?
I know Zon recommend cleaning/maintaining the fingerboard with WD40 but I don't know if that is suitable for all carbon fibre bass necks.
  17.
This must be a mistake................. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEAVEY-G-BASS-1990s-VG-condition-w-Hard-Case-EMS-Shipping-Tracking-Number-/252713424176?hash=item3ad6e4d530:g:DtsAAOSwnHZYcHWc
Japanese guitar sellers always ask ludicrous prices for stuff on Ebay, this is nothing unusual.
  18. I can't stand Techno, House, Hip Hop, Trance etc. but that's got nothing to do with what instruments are or are not used, it's just not my sort of thing. I've got no problem with synths, sequencing etc in general. There's plenty of godawful dross made with "real" instruments, so I'd never use that as a yardstick for measuring the quality of a piece of music.
  19. I wouldn't say a Strat is less versatile than a Tele, depends what you're looking for. I can get a lot more tones I like out of a Tele than a Strat. Strat's do the Strat thing, Teles do the Tele thing.
  20. Great basses, really liked the one I had.
  21. I couldn't afford a synthesiser, which is what I really wanted.
  22. Selling Rickenbackers is not allowed on here.
  23. Many years ago on The Gretsch Pages guitar forum I jokingly came up with a genre called "Progabilly" Apparently it is now actually a thing. Wish I'd copyrighted the term.
