1. Not a big fan of Strats (the volume control is in the wrong place for me, I keep knocking them) but both Strats & Teles have to have maple boards for me. Rosewood just looks wrong on Fenders to me. Nice looking guitar, lovely bit of birdseye on the neck.
  2. I can't drive & I've been been in a few gigging bands over the years with no problems. Well, there were shitloads of problems but transport wasn't one of them...
  3. Great pedals these. Jacques stuff is brilliant.
  4. In my experience the MIJ & CIJ Fenders are by far the most consistent of all Fenders.

    New Tokais

I had one of their 335 copies & it was a lovely guitar, finish & build quality was easily as good, if not better, than any Gibson I've seen in the last few years. Can't go wrong for the money.
  8.
I saw the Maria Schnieder Orchestra, last year. World leading Jazz Orchestra. £15 a ticket. I wouldn't pay £90 to see ANYONE.
I'm off to see The Tim Garland Electric Band in Cardiff next week - £12.00 a ticket. Bargain.
  9.
I'd pay 90 for Hendrix
That would be a f***ing stupid thing to do, he's been dead for ages.
  10.
I so agree about Geddy's Wal sound... on the other hand, I agree with the poster who said when they played one themselves it sounded incredible. I think maybe a different producer could have got more balls out of Geddy's Wal..
I thought his Wal sounded like sh*te live too. Having said that I've never liked Geddy's jazz bass sound much either.
  11.
From Rush.com's "rig rundown" section, 1989: The colour-coding apparently helped him when he was breaking in a new ARP synthesiser and bass pedal arrangement.
12.
For the record, the tone Geddy got from his Wal represents my least favourite chapter of Rush's history....
Geddy's Wal tone is one of the worst bass sounds I'ver ever heard. Bloody awful, sounds like rubber bands stretched over a shoe box.
  13.
Teles are more expensive because there's more wood. Manufacturers generally don't slice big chunks of the wood away like on a Strat, all those comfort contours mean less wood. I got wise to all this and ended up with a Richie Kotzen Telecaster with comfort contours and it was an absolute bargain, mainly because it has less wood. It's still a Tele but less wood means cheap, right? Check them out. It's like a loophole in the whole "Teles are dearer than Strats" rule.
Really? The Richie Kotzen signature model is one of the most expensive non custom shop Telecasters available, about £1,800 last time I looked.
  14.
The only time I saw Bowie live was at Slane Castle on the Glass Spider tour in 1987.
I hope he was better than he was in Cardiff on the same tour. One of the worst gigs I've ever been to.
  15.
As someone who plays at acoustic nights and open mics with my "original" songs on a regular basis I can indeed say that house cajon players, bass players etc are incredibly off-putting when they're trying to accompany you on a song they've never heard before.
This. Nothing more annoying than somebody trying to force bass & drums onto a song that was never intended to have them.
  16.
Ed Sheeran is the new Nick Heyward, then!
Yeah, I can't stand Nick Heyward either.
  17. I definitely find playing guitar & singing easier than playing bass & singing. I've been singing as long as I've been playing. I've done lead & backing vocals while playing bass for a long time. My introduction to singing & playing bass live was a bit of a baptism of fire. My old band had their (and my) first ever gig playing at a festival in West Sussex, playing just before China Crisis who were the headline act. A couple of days before the gig our vocalist/rhythm guitarist quit. We were so angry at him doing this to us that we decided we'd do the gig regardless. I ended up taking over lead vocal duties without a rehearsal &, fuelled by a combination of bloodymindedness & adrenalin, got through the gig without any problems.
  18. I wondered what Uncle Fester was doing now.
  19. What did they finish it with, a muck spreader?
