1.
My first thought was Eastern European, but looking closer, I'm leaning towards home-made.
Maybe even home-made in Eastern Europe...
 2.
I must be really lucky. In 30 years of playing, all the drummers I've ever played with have been really nice, stable guys.
Same here. The biggest arseholes in my experience have been keyboard players.
 3. Maybe because they want to? I can't understand why anybody would want to play blues or soul music but plenty of people do.
 4.
And another thing: One time I went along to see a band-mate in his other outfit and found myself very reluctantly babysitting his wife. Some local herberts drunkenly barracked the band. Idiotically, she gave out verbal to them and they consequentially made menacing moves on me because they assumed I was her spouse.
I had the sh*t kicked out of me in Cardiff city centre many years ago for a very similar reason. Drummers sister mouths off at a bunch of pissed up blokes who proceed to give both me & her brother a severe shoeing.
 5. I've never had any tensions because of the reason you give, but I have been in relationships where my partner didn't much care for the amount of my time rehearsals & gigging took up. When I was gigging a lot my girlfriend used to come to the gigs, but that was largely because she was friends with the girlfriends of other band members so it would be a social thing for them as much as anything. My current partner, who I have been with for 19 years, has no interest whatsoever in anything I do musically & has only seen me play once, and that was because it was at a friends birthday party.
 6.
A great album, though does not get as much mention as it deserves.
No it doesn't. I prefer it to Bitches Brew.

 9.
Jon Shuker made it for me.
Aah, that explains it.
 10.
Mine's a bit rare now....
Wow, that's a beauty! Never seen one with a maple fingerboard before.
 11. If they are that old maybe they just have no recollection of the audition.
 12.
Cheers mate. Looks like one of the fatalities was a US citizen, so my thoughts are with you too.
His wife is critically ill too. They were on the last day of a holiday celebrating their 25th anniversary apparently.
 13.
So...your "instrument" is road worn ?
Extreme relic...
 14.
So is the consensus that the US ones are the more preferred choice? Ta Mike
Personally I'd take a Japanese one over a US one any day.
 15.
Good answers . I could also have asked, as you get older and afflicted with assorted ailments, which would cause more grief, arthritis in the hands or the old fella not being up to scratch anymore?
Scratching it is all I do with it these days.
 16.
Out of interest, what sorts of music do people think particularly suits fretless? (Asking as have absolutely zero experience of fretless).
Terrible 80s music.
 17. A friend of mine has one of these, it's a lovely bass. If the gold hardware bothers you the gold plate can easily be removed with Brasso. I know this as I did it by accident to an old gold plated Badass bridge many years ago.
 18.
I've made the effort to get a licence and get my transport sorted, it was grief and continues to be grief running it, so why should you not have to bother?
Because some people, myself included, are not allowed to drive for medical reasons.
