1.
Thanks for the recommends, I'll give him a listen tomorrow. As an aside, I wonder if he ever met my dad. He calls our cat the Gatox, a mix of gato (Spanish for cat) and gateaux.
It's from an old joke - a man in a restaurant asks if he can have Gattox for dessert. When the waiter tells him they don't have any the man says "Oh Bollo". I didn't say it was a GOOD old joke...
 2. Marvellous! Happy with the amplified sound?
 3. There isn't a 'standard' for Morris Dancing. Each team will have it's own variations on the traditional dances they do, and these will vary from region to region. They would possibly not take too kindly to somebody trying to join in with them either, unless the person was invited. It's not an audience participation type of thing.
 4.
I always thought it was funny that he had been with Level 42 for a period. Top player. His solo on the outro of 'if you were mine' is just masterful. It has all some really 'Holdsworth' moves in it, which I loved. He really brought his musical personality wherever he went. His stuff with Berlin and Bruford was top too.
Apparently Mark King was a big fan of Holdsworth & offered him the Level 42 gig to help him out financially.
 5.
I've heard his name before but never heard much of his stuff. Any essential albums I should check out?
Road Games.
 6.
First heard him on Bruford's Feels Good to Me.
Same here. A true innovator, he inspired many imitators but nobody came close. He invented & patented a beer pump too apparently.
 7. I've had a set of Isolate Mini's for just over a week & for my purposes (which are not music related) they are great. I've worn them every day since I got them & the tips look as good as new, no signs of wear whatsoever. I've worn the standard orange foam ones for years & the Flare Audio plugs are far superior in every aspect. I wear earplugs for hours every day & the foam ones are very uncomfortable whereas I hardly know I've got the Isolate Mini's in.
 8. I've just heard that he's died too.
 9. The PRS SE models I've played have all been excellent quality, really good guitars. The Harley Benton basses get a lot of favourable comments on here.
 10.
quiet a lot of TOGWT content appears in oldies music programmes, watched one on the yesterday channel of all places the other day which was almost exclusively Whistle Test content, there's a bit of rose coloured specs going on here, there was an awful lot of crap on the Whistle Test as well as the good stuff, bit like Jools
There was also a hell of a lot of miming on TOGWT.
 11.
Thanks Rhys, I like the look (and price) of the Vintage. Is the maple top just a veneer though? By Tokai, do you mean the newer Chinese ones? Not so fussed on those. Always wanted an Ibanez or MIJ Tokai but the prices are obscene on those right now.
I might well be a veneer, but the maple cap on a "proper" Les Paul isn't very thick. Looking at the Vintage website the woods seem to vary from model to model. Some of them have a maple cap with an additional layer of flame veneer, some of them just have the veneer. Korean Tokais are good guitars, the MIJ ones will be out of your price range.
 12. I'd have a look for a used Tokai or maybe a Vintage. In my experience the quality of Epiphones is way too variable. Just seen your link to that Vintage on Ebay - I'd take that over an Epiphone any day of thevweek.
 13.
"Later with Jules Holland: a cockroach in the schedules"
That sentence also works if you remove "roach".
 14.
A RhysP gem!
Aw shucks...
 15.
....but if Martin McGuiness and Ian Pasley could learn to get on there's hope for us all
They were never in a band together...
 16. This is the problem I've always found with learning covers. Everybody always has their own idea about what constitutes having "learned" a song.
 17.
I do vaguely recall that, but the poster seemed to be saying that it still happens...
Not to me he doesn't.
 18.
Fabulous album. Saw the show when it first toured (twice!). They had Chris Spedding, Herbie, Justin Hayward and Chris Thompson (Manfred Mann's Earth Band) from the original album in the band alongside Laurie Wisefield (Wishbone Ash) and Hugh Burns (everybody!) on guitar. Quite a band. One heck of a show!
That was the version of the show I saw. Absolutely brilliant.
 19. Your bass has got Volume, Treble & Bass controls. The extra control you've seen is a Midrange control. I'm not 100% sure but I think a Stingray will still produce a sound without a battery, but the tone controls won't work & the sound will be generally weaker. A Stingray expert will be along soon to either agree with me or mock me.
 20. I really liked the "Quick Step & Side Kick" album back in the day. Great pop songs.
 21.
they dont - limelight dont put fender decals on.
They certainly used to. Do a search for "Limelight" on here & see how many of them have Fender decals
 22.
Dupuytrenvy.
23.
Sorry, wasn't trying to belittle your condition, or scare you either !! :-)
I've got Dupuytren's Envy now...
 24.
I've had Dupuytren's for a number of years now, and touch wood it doesn't seem to be getting much worse. Interesting facts in this thread, and the condition is prevalent in string players generally as well as bassists apparently. Mine looks worse than it is! Been told as in previous posts that no action will be taken until the fingers start to curl under, so am just hoping I can continue playing with no problems. Bill Nighy is a famous sufferer of this condition, and often poses for photos so as to hide his hands from showing it.
That makes mine look a bit piss poor by comparison.
 25. Playing in a three piece is great fun.
