I saw them last week. A good show, not quite as great as when I saw them the previous year, but Thijs was having problems with his organ (oo er). Pierre Van Der Linden is just awesome.

It's weird, the whole production seems to even out as the album goes on... Frantic sounds bizarre, but All Within My Hands is almost normal. That aside, I genuinely believe the songs are excellent (Invisible Kid aside) - probably the most honest album they've ever made, a real primal expression.

I love St Anger... Seriously. One day, it will be understood.

[/quote] It's a custom Alembic, running in stereo through (I believe) Sunn amps. So, you've got the bridge pickup trebly and nicely distorted, and the neck pickup running fat and warm. I've actually got an Alembic savings fund going on - at my current rate, I should be able to order one when I'm 50.

Another vote for the poor old Epiphone Thunderbird from me I'm afraid... Weighed nothing, felt like playing a toy bass. And such a dead tone... I will point out this was one of the reverse models that Epiphone still make today. I had previously owned the non-reverse model, with PJ pickups, and it was a great instrument.

I once bought a BC Rich Ironbird from my local CC... It was up for about £100 odd, but I was concerned with the bow in the neck. The chap in the shop clearly had no idea about guitars, had a bit of a panic and offered it to me for £40. It turned out he had tuned it comically high - once tuned correctly the neck straightened right out! Test the waters, see if the chap in your branch knows his stuff - if not, slyly suggest the bass is junk and see what discount you can get.

I can't watch the video (I'm at work) but Tom used to play a BC Rich Wave bass, and a Hill custom, before switching to ESPs.
