I remember that video of Wishnevski playing one of his basses in a backyard blues jam with a guitarist. I'd get the video off YouTube if I wasn't using my iPhone. It was hilarious, the playing from both musicians was so ponderous and awful. It was ridiculed on talkbass before they outlawed the criticism of anyone who uses the site.
That video is comedy gold.

Even earlier evidence of Flea with Stingray....
Cosmo Valdemar replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
I wonder why he rarely ( if ever?) uses a Wal or Alembic for live shows?
Of the Alembic, he said he 'wouldn't be caught dead' playing it live. -
Isn't that just an example of some typical slap bass?

Just bought Nick's Ibanez ATK - he even drove over to me as my car is currently broken. Top bloke, wouldn't hesitate to deal with again. Smashing bass too

Whereabouts is the band located? Do you have a link to the band website/myspace? -
Line6 Studio 110 is another worth considering for about £200.
I have one of these and it's a marvel. If you look around the for sale forums you should be able to pick one up for under £100. Excellent for recording too, if the need should arise.

Mike Rutherford's early '70's bass sound
There's a Rick 4001 on the album cover in its stand
My mistake! This must have been before he had the two grafted together. -
Mike Rutherford's early '70's bass sound
Cosmo Valdemar replied to molan's topic in General Discussion
So here I am lounging on the beach in Naxos and discover the beach bar has free wi-fi! I've been having a bit of a '70's live prog fest with Yes and Genesis and have just been listening to the remastered version of Genesis Live for the first time in about 20 years. Mike Rutherford's live sound seems much more aggressive than I remember hearing from the studio albums, especially on the opening track, Watcher of the Skies. It's actually interesting to hear how his tone changes from song to song, with a much mellower sound for the next track and hen somewhere in between the two for the third. At times it's very Chris Squire sounding and I'm pretty sure he was also using a Ricky during this period. I wondered if anyone knew what sort of amp setup he was using in those days? Maybe an overdriven Ampeg?
I am pretty certain it's not an Ampeg. As for the changes in tone, Rutherford would occasionally switch to the guitar part of his double neck, and rely on bass pedals for the low end. In fact, on The Musical Box, he doesn't touch the bass at all. It is a fantastic bass sound, I've always considered the tone on this album as a good example of a 'clean' Rickenbacker - albeit one with very new strings. -
Almost all the bass on Animals is Gilmour too. I believe Waters only plays bass on sheep, except the end.
My favourite Floyd moment, probably. Truly glorious.

Gibson Thunderbird, what are they like?
Cosmo Valdemar replied to deanbean502's topic in Bass Guitars
The old Thunderbirds, with the metal covered pickups and the chrome hardware, are incredible basses - a little awkward to play if you are not used to them but the sound is monstrous. The current Gibsons look similar but are completely different tonally. I have considered buying one and ordering some Mike Lull pickups for it but that's some serious expense! The Epiphone Tbirds have plenty of admirers, I didn't get on with mine at all. Felt like a toy to me. -
Animals was another great album that seems to get overlooked by many. Dave
Animals is my favourite.
Wish You Were Here is one of my 2 favourite albums of all time, and easily my favourite Floyd one. IMO, it's a masterpiece.
It's strange, I love Pink Floyd, but I really don't get on with WYWH. It bores the arse off me.
Yeah it's on YT, i sometimes watch it at work when it's quiet! Didn't know there was different versions, what's the difference?
The Director's cut is widescreen, has different title cards introducing the songs, and has a few new shots inserted of moonscapes and other 'atmospheric' images. The songs are also interspersed with footage of the band recording Dark Side at Abbey Road. Nick Mason loves his fruit pie but really doesn't want an end piece.

Ibanez EDB605 Ergodyne For Sale PRICE DROP!!!

There a few basses cooler than a Fenderbird. Something I've wanted to do for a long time! But yes, you should change the pickups - a couple of Lull Tbird pickups would be perfect (although very expensive). I've never thought much of the stock Epi Tbird pickups - or the current Gibson ones either.
