1. Bit further out (Dartford) and probably a bit OTT but I have 2 Ashdown 2x10s if you're stuck.
 2.
Well an update to this - it`s going back. The new version doesn`t have that really full-on depth to it of the original, pretty much like my experience with the Para Driver. So it looks like the original is staying.
Oh dear!
 3.
The Sansamp pedals make much more sense as not everyone who loves the Ampeg sound wants an Ampeg head, but the same doesn't seem to work for GK.
Why not? Same basic concept surely? I love the GK grind but don't own a GK amp as I already have an amp that meets my needs. From experience I've come to prefer something a little more trad sounding, but the idea of having that grind in a pedal appeals greatly.
 4. Well you certainly get a superb sound out of it!
 5.
Nice playing but YYZ is not Geddy - the middle part of the guitar solo section is missing the little 32nd note fill Geddy does near the beginning, which is on the record.
I'm amazed that anyone can think the YYZ track above isn't Geddy. The distortion is the same, the little pops and crunches are the same, the tonal/volume differences on the solo drop-ins are the same... What more can I say? There are some copies on Youtube masquerading as the real thing but they are instantly noticeable, no matter how clever. I'm not sure which section you are referring to as different but I know some of the Rock Band tracks use slightly different takes to the ones released.
 6. Mrs Mooseblaster sounds like a good'un! I tried a similar thing with mine, fishing for a Series I Alembic. It didn't work. Bravo on the new bass!
 7. Perhaps that's superb sounding gear?
 8. What do you use the multi-fx for?
 9. I can't listen to them all on my phone but the ones I can are definitely Geddy. There's no question.
 10.
I appreciate the skill but I wouldn't want to listen to any more of it.
Me too. I am in awe of Jaco's abilities but outside of his work with Joni Mitchell his actual music does little for me. The clip in the OP was amusing though. Made me think of Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder. 3 o'clock!
 11.
Van der Graaf Generator! The line-up has occasionally included a bass player, but the longest-serving versions just have Hugh Banton dancing on his organ's pedals.
My first thought. Banton often played bass on the records. Nic Potter played bass on the early albums - GREAT bass riff in 'Pioneers Over C' - and rejoined later and contributed some massive fuzz bass to 'Vital. But I suppose that is not what the thread is all about.
 12.
Sorry if this is old news but looks like Hartke have revamped their Bass Attack pedal. I'm not sure if this is actually available yet though? http://www.samsontec...es/pedals/hba2/
I prefer the look of the old one... More distinctive.
 13.
Yes, looks are important. Otherwise I'd be playing P basses like everyone else.
True, but it's also well-known that Gibson have never made a pretty bass (scientific fact).
 14.
He said Multivox but He sent me this photo.
The price of it!
 15.
Would it be fair to say that Raven & Hook play bass in an unconventional, guitar-like way much of the time?
Hook maybe. Not so sure about Raven.
 16. I'd love to see some pics...
 17.
Put a pair of rounds on the Hofner, tweak the Vox amp and give it to Chris (RIP) and it will sound like Chris. I'm maintaining my position. Blue
Just the two strings? 😉 The result would sound like CS playing a Hofner through a Vox amp. His style would most likely be apparent, but his signature tone? Of course, two different players using the same gear will have differences in sound, but the core sound will be that of that particular bass through that particular amp. The whole 'tone is in the fingers' argument is so vague it becomes open to wild misinterpretation.
 18.
Nice clip. However I'm thanking my lucky stars I came into playing bass around 1966 and influence by the great bass players of my generation. If you want a similar sound practice, practice practice is how you get there. It doesn't matter what amp or bass you use. Blue
If all you own is a Hofner Violin bass and a vox amp , you'll never sound like Chris Squire. Gear is extremely important to tone. To suggest otherwise is absurd.
 19. I'm now the happy owner of Ahpook's Zcat Big Reverb, and as such find myself awash with ambient happiness. And, it arrived the next day. No probs whatsoever and a pleasure to deal with.
 20.
And keep in mind we're not what you would call a professional band. Blue
You are a professional bass player, are you not?
 21. Are you using the Sansamp as a preamp or just part of the pedal chain?
 22.
I believe the original body might have been finished in sunburst (could be wrong), but he had it resprayed in "salmon" - perhaps unsurprisingly, given it was supposedly assembled from a collection of smashed bass parts.
Frankenstein did indeed begin it's blasphemous life with a sunburst body - JE resprayed it fiesta red years later, long after it's retirement from active Who duty. IIRC the neck and electronics were from the Slab, the bridge and tuners from a Jazz.
