1. For sale, my trusty Yamaha BB424X. This was my main bass for a couple of years but doesn't get played much these days. It's in superb condition, no marks or dings to speak of other than some very light swirling to the back of the body. Strings still have some zing to them. Collection from Dartford or can meet somewhere near. No trades thanks!
2. Used but in excellent condition. In original box. £40 collection from Dartford, £45 posted.
3. I don't know if they've changed their stance in this but Gibson never sold Tbird pickups in the past as the originals were guaranteed not to go wrong IIRC. Bartolini make a pickup matching the size and shape but I don't think it's a tonal match.
4. They look different - are you able to post pics?
5. I find these bizarrely appealing.
6. Cor!
7. I agree... I love the green one but the knobs dont quite match the rest. In keeping with the rest of the bass I think some gold metal ones would do the trick.
8. Not quite - Ron Grainer was the composer, Delia was the arranger. Not to belittle Delia's contribution in any way - her work on Doctor Who alone is of colossal importance, truly astounding. There should be statues of this woman.
9. I wish they'd stuck with the batwing headstock, it was an important part of the overall look.
10. Not getting much of an idea of the tone, but Scott definitely knows his Thunderbirds - his comments are extremely encouraging!
11. Good lord...
12. Great tone that! Well done mate.
13. You won't get it!
14. . This. They were doing so well up to the machine heads! Of course they could probably fit the machine heads you asked for when ordering. The Haussell pickups on the blue bass demo sound fantastic.
15. "Mint condition apart from *lists various things that prevent instrument from being mint*." "First to see will buy" - What?!
16. The stuff I've heard on Planet Rock was wonderful.
17.
Excellent, thanks Cosmo! I actually really love the ominous simplicity of the bass line in conjunction with that amazing Piano-like tone, it sound so mean! and then the widdlier bits from 2:00 on, lovely and twangy!
It's amazing isn't it? IIRC the isolated part is not the one on the original release - the CD reissue in the 90s used a different take. I haven't heard the original Vinyl version so can't confirm. I do like that album, though it is an acquired taste to put it mildly! It's an Alembic masterclass throughout.
18. Agh! Someone finally gets the headstock right, but that body...
19.
I love this track and especially the bass-line. Just curious if anyone knew what it was John Entwhistle recorded it with? I'm presuming around this era it may have been an Alembic?
Yes, very much an Alembic Series bass. Entwistle had a few so not sure which exact one - live he was playing the Explorer-shape ones but in the studio it may have been a different matter. But yes, classic Alembic running in stereo.
