1. My next item(s) up for sale in my big gear shake up - the bottom part of my current rig. Each cab runs at 8 ohm so when used together make quite a formidable stack. I have gigged these regularly with no PA support and never had any power / volume issues. Can be stacked vertically or horizontally, very lightweight and easy to transport. Superb condition, just some very, very light scuffs to the interlocking feet. These cabs have the option of being run full range or, if you have a corresponding GK had, you can use the bi-amp function. PLEASE NOTE: One of the cabs has a crackly sounding horn. I'm not sure if this is the horn itself or a wiring issue. This never bothered me as I always leave the horns turned right down, but I have heard these speakers used by a friend who used the top horn only and it was more than sufficient. This issue was present from purchase. Due to this I'm selling for the low price of £420 the pair (they are around £350 each new and usually on back order). I would prefer not to split the two cabs and am not looking for trades at the moment. Collection preferred from Dartford. Trials welcome. Also willing to meet/deliver if not too far. 2. Great little bass combo amp, very well built and rugged. Ideal for home practice, but is now surplus to my requirements. 3band EQ, In very good condition (some scratches to the back plate caused in transit) and in full working order. 5 classic amp models and various digital effects (flange, chorus, auto-wah, reverb, delay). No trade offers thanks. Collection from Dartford preferred, or could possibly meet/deliver. 3. I've decided to sell my Sub-Lime bass fuzz. It's a glorious pedal and makes a truly wonderful noise but it's not seeing any action at the moment. These are long-discontinued and not too easy to get hold of. Pedal is in full working order, but does have a couple of minor wear marks to the casing, and has Velcro applied to the bottom. The pedal comes in the original box and snazzy faux-velvet drawstring bag. Collection/trials welcome, or could deliver/meet around M25. Postage at buyer's cost. No trades thank you. 4. Paul is now the (hopefully) proud owner of my elusive Palmer Ubertreiber overdrive. Great comms from the off, one of the swiftest and easiest deals I've ever done on here. Top marks!
5. I follow this lot on fb. It looks obscenely good, congrats! Are these the ones the guy from Torche plays?
6.
Just another reason to stick to the superior (to me) original version
Believe me, I wanted to! Got outvoted on that one.
7.
The Amy Winehouse version of Valerie has the simplest of basslines, but getting the rhythm right (and constant) becomes almost impossible if the drummer doesn’t nail it too.
First thing I thought of! Sounds dead easy but is actually fiendishly tricky to get right. And if it's not bang on, you won't get away with it.
8.
Hate Marmite, love this bass
Ditto! Another entry in the 'why did I sell mine?!' pile...
9. I wouldn't worry about the maple fingerboard. It won't make much difference to the sound of the bass, and RW used rosewood board Precisions too. As for the pickup issue with the RW sig, it's easily changed if the rest of the bass fits.
10. A very timely review! I'm thinking of getting one of it's more powerful brothers. All the boxes are being ticked so far!
11. This pedal isn't very well known but I think it should be. Dedicated bass overdrive with great low end and clean blend. I find overdrives very difficult to explain so see the little demo vid below for an idea. As-new condition, only played a few times at home. Comes with original box and paraphernalia. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXJfNafgjG8
12. The O2 concert was incredible. I'm pretty bemused when people accuse him of being past it, or that his voice has gone, as neither is true. The fact is, he sounds amazing, incredible in fact when you consider he is 73 years old. 73. They played for nearly 3 hours straight with no let up in energy or quality. The whole Macca-bashing trend is getting a bit stale. I'm happy to report the sound was excellent too, the humble little Hofner clear and audible. If that bass, not famed for it's clarity, can cut through an arena mix it does make you wonder why the sound is generally atrocious in these places... The band is well-known for their meticulous sound checks.
13. I think this thread wins the award for 'vaguest thread title'...
14. A friend of mine has an Edwards Les Paul - the Jimmy Page model. He's a Gibson connoisseur and he rates the Edwards very highly. Sadly at a gig a few years ago a well-meaning punter mistook it for an Epiphone and it's not been gigged since.
15.
My Line6 300W combo has a synth effect, accessed via a knob on the far right. The result is that the occasional note comes out as something resembling flatulence but, mostly, it produces nothing at all. Is it just a feature of the amp that’s known to be rubbish, or is there some trick in terms of other amp settings or maybe choice of pickups to get the desired input?
If there's no sound at all, there's something wrong.
16.
Did another duo gig when the World Cup was on , I think East Timor was playing Yemen ( two really strong contenders ,or such like ) and the Landlord refuse to turn the TV off , and we played the whole gig with a widescreen TV just above our heads . It was like playing to a bunch of Zombies , no eye contact at all .
I once watched a band play underneath a vast telly showing, unbeknownst to the band, a documentary on Hitler and the Third Reich. A sub-par Oasis cover band playing to the backdrop of the Nazi rallies was quite a sight. The band obviously wondered why the audience was in hysterics and demanded the TV to be turned off.
17. I went upstairs on the bus the other day and was accused of being disrespectful by some children sitting on the back seat.
18. I've always been a Precision man but now I'm playing in a functions/covers band I'm really appreciating what the Jazz has to offer. There were some songs that required a bit more 'tightness' than the Precision could offer. Hand on heart the full on P bass sound is more pleasing to me but the Jazz is filling the current position with aplomb. And they look damned gorgeous to boot.
19. I'll lend you my Hofner Violin bass if you promise to film his reaction.
20.
Living in bristol, currently play ltd surveryor 5 string. (active emg) that sound meaty. We'll be in the studio for about 10-15 days plus 3 days of pre production with our producer!
I can't imagine that bass sounding particularly out of place on anything. Or any other bass, for that matter. And why would you need a bass with a completely different 'feel'? I would question this advice.
21. I've always had a soft spot for these. Totally bonkers but they seem to work so well. I wonder if Mr W is back on his feet yet?
