1. My MM is 14.5 inches from centre of the pick up to the 12th fret along the centre line. Hope that helps. Dan
2. Skol, what design company do you work for out of curiousity? Dan
3. Thanks again everyone. Sorry for the lack of response, my internet has been down. Skol303, I may take you up on that offer. Ill PM when the time comes. Cheers aain. Dan
4. Thats really good, theres some great inventive ideas! Thanks for ideas everyone. Its one of those things thats important to get right. I have heard of moo.com several times and they seem to be the best place to go to. Please keep the suggestions and thoughts coming, the more the better! Dan
5. Thanks Jennifer. I dont want to order a few hundred of these and realise they look bot! So would you reckon white card with clear black writing would look best then in your opinion? Or perhaps, an off white card and black writing? This should take the harshness out of the contrast and be easier to read, or am I reading too much into all this?! Dan
6. Sounds great! Yes please! facebook.com/danpietruszka Thanks very much! Dan
7. Hey every one. Not sure if this is the right section for it, but lets try it any way! Im going to be getting some business cards printed as a working bass player. Who here has some and what do yours look like? I was thinking of doing mine with name, number, email and bass player written in lower case in pale grey on black card. Simple and clean, but I don't know if this is a good way to go in aesthetics. How do yours look and does that make a difference to how much work you get or the impression it gives? Im really putting this up to get an idea of what people have. Thanks for any help/ cards people put up given! Dan
8. Wow! I can't believe you dont like the head! They're amazing heads, I absolutely love mine! Good luck with the sale! Dan
9. I laughed when i saw this topic! A band I played this is once we're struggling to get it and then it clicked; Ab pentatonic starting on Eb. Cracking tune. Are you using an envelope filter to get that squidgy sound? Dan
10. I saw them last time they were there with another bass chatter. They were excellent and worth going to see! Full of groove and a great night out. Will Turner be using the new Aggy head? Be good to hear how it sounds compared to the AG 500 he used last time. Dan
11.
He owned him in the sense that i could actually watch the whole video without baulking at the 80s cheeser spoiling an otherwise harmless song. Bump your mids up, ease off the treble and ffs give that thumb a bloody rest! MK is a nice little fella from the interviews i've read but whenever he gets that thumb out - eeurgh!!!
I agree! Every time I see MK play I just think Christ on a bike, give it a rest! Has he not heard of simplicity? And surely its not about having to play other people under the table every time the bass is picked up? Don't get me wrong, I think MK is a talented man, but slap bass isn't for every occasion. Dan
12. I dont see any reason it wouldn't work. Why wouldn't it? But ask your self this; Would I be happier playing through a bass amp? Will it sound better through a bass amp? Hope you come to a decision. Dan
13.
I must admit I feel that the real responsibility for promoting a night of live music should lie with the venue. As long as the band advertise on their sites then the rest is up to the person booking. I'd be intrigued to know what other players feel about this?
I completely agree whole heartedly with you. You are a band that has been asked to play a live set, that's exactly what you should do. The venue/promotor should do the promotion. It's in their best interests to get the money in the tills. And surely you get paid regardless? (I'm not calling you Shirley either. Arf arf!) My bands make it very clear in as few words as possible what we will be doing; ''We will play X length of set for X amount of money.'' You're a band, not band/promotor/marketing company/advertising company/fair ground ring master (roll up roll up!). You are right! Dan
14.
Kind of started a new band on Saturday, formed on Saturday morning had a gig Saturday night. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mexican-Wave/166491390053200
Wow! Thats a quick turn around! Best of luck. Musicians like that aren't worth the time, certainly not worth stressing over it. You've taken control of the situation and it looks like its already paying off! Dan
15. I agree with pretty much every one here. I ordered something from them, took weeks to turn up, I had to return it and they said ''it was fine no problem we'll give you a refund''. About 4, maybe 5 weeks later, with many phone calls and after being told that it was my fault for ordering the 'wrong' product, I get the refund. This is such a shame as I got my first bass combo and my Stingray bass from the Wapping shop 10 years ago. The proper shop they had was excellent, fantastic staff and impeccable customer service. Where has all this gone? It seems odd that it happened about the time when they went strictly online. Its such a shame to see a shop with their reputation go down the pan. Needless to say I'm not angry, I'm disappointed. I certainly won't be using them again. Dan
16. Plays low B with confidence. The last ad I saw that will let you do something with confidence was one for Tena Lady. Dan
17. Sounds like the kind of thing I used at The Yardbird in Birmingham last Friday. Trace Elliot 715? 1 15 inch driver with 7 band graphic EQ. I found the same thing, I only had it half way and was punchy as! Had the typical Trace sound which always makes me grin! Dan
18. Chris De Burgh scares me.
19. Basschat is excellent! Ive bought a Sandberg Fretless (Giblet123) and a Aguilar padded amp bag (legion, I think?). Both were great sellers and the many people on here will vouch for a sale section being very much alive! Somebody perhaps having a bad day or not seeing what they want? Dan
20. Personal taste. Try as many as you can. Ive tried MB and TC, didnt like the TC at all, the Mb cabs are excellent, and again definitely not arse. Its going to be what works for your playing, and for me the MB cabs work best. Dan
21.
I much prefer painted basses, don't care what the paint is, nitro, poly, acrylic .. and I like them white. I think this obsession with seeing wood grain, that so many bassists seem to have, is a bit strange. It's as if they will feel closer to god if the wood grain is visible. Everytime they pick it up and behold the evidence of the natural world, it's like a little trip to Nepal to find oneself. If the bass has the wood pattern visible, preferably unfinished and just oiled, the player will experience the PERSONALITY of the bass, and they will will PLAY with personality. They will bond with the bass, they will stare at the unique and beautiful mesmerising patterns in the wood and they will appreciate BEAUTY and WHOLESOMENESS in the patterns and this will help them become one with the earth and the stars. Their minds will open with this BEAUTY and their music will be unique and beautiful and they will BECOME ONE WITH THEIR BASS! Then they commission another one a few months later.
That made me laugh! I just love the look of grain, theres soo many different types of wood out there with incredible grains. It would be a waste to paint over it with hammerite or something! My basses have a translucent finish, so the grain is visible. A happy medium? Perhaps. I even had my SR scratch plate made from rosewood I love woods so much! But then, this is why we have an options list! If every one had the same gear, it would be a boring world! Dan
22. Man I know how that feels! As soon as I put my fretless on at an EP launch I played at, I thought ''hang on, theres not much light here!'' I struggled but no one noticed any different! Day glo stickers and such is a cracking idea! Ill be doing that! Dan
23.
Why call it the $10 Million bass? I don't understand.
Its an exaggeration on the actual cost of it. Just as when you catch a fish and its THIS big! Its expensive and calling it the $10m bass just reflects the silly price. I wouldn't say no. It'll only increase in value if investment is your thing. Dan
24. I can see the point of them, when done well they do look good. But thats all it is, a look. Paul H is bang on the money. People buy faded jeans for a look, just as people buy relic/custom worn basses for a look. Its nothing more than a fashion. I personally would prefer to get a bass I love to play and love the sound of and play it to death, have it relic'd with time. I have done that with my Stingray. But the finish on them is pretty good and I look after it a bit too much to get it 'worn'! Its not for me, but I can appreciate the time gone into weathering them. Dan
25. Apparently she wrote it, she admitted to listening to Under the Bridge when she wrote it. Doesn't make any difference, she's still a moron by all accounts Dan
