1. DOH! I am such a dumb f***. The other basses do have larger routs. There's nothing wrong with this plate.
2. i quite like the look if of it
3.
No, mine didn't fit the rout. I just enlarged the rout, as I had a scratchplate to cover it.
No can do as rear routed control cavity and still undecided as to whether to fit the custom scratchplate - depends how it will look and will be last thing fitted as it's just cosmetic - in fact I'm not even going to start designing it until the bass is built.
4.
I bought a Fender p pickup and it had the large plate. It was definitely genuine, but was the Vintage model, maybe that's the difference?
Ahh Ok Thomann advertised it as 'Vintage' but it has the same packaging and the same part number on the label as my previous 2 'Original' p/n 0992046000 which had smaller plates that did fit. ...did yours fit your rout? I think I shall cut this one down and then resolder the pickup to the plate - what do you reckon? The 2 on the left are pickups I bought previously which are both fitted in Basses. The one on the right is this new one with the oversize plate Same part numbers, same descriptions, same barcodes, slightly different layout on the labels. Otherwise all same packaging
5. I have just bought a nickel one - I would have had this one if it was black - the black ones are like rocking horse poo
6. Strange This is the 3rd Fender original Precision pickup I have bought However it seems this one has a larger shielding plate than the previous 2. It's so large it will not fit in the rout! I bought this one from Thomann - I'm wondering if it is genuine as the other 2 I bought seem to have smaller shielding plates. So what to do? Do I question Thomann? Do I remove the pickup from the shielding plate and get some tin snips and cut it down to size?
7. Which colour? Chrome Nickel Gold Black ????
8.
I tried the D'Addario's and didn't get on with the sticky feel they have.
They're only like that when they are new IME I used to use chrome flats all the time but am now a convert to the half rounds - yes they did feel sticky at first but the stickiness doesn't last long
9. How has this not sold? I already have one but have another bump on me.
10. Q-parts knobs aren't the easiest things to get hold of. Neither Bill Lewington http://www.bill-lewington.com/qparts/mdome.htm nor WD Music UK http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/q-parts-253-c.asp were able to supply me from stock as the knobs I am after are not imported by them. WD stated that they would be able to get them for mid January delivery. Q Parts http://www.qparts.com/index.php/knob.html wanted $23.95 shipping charge and 3 weeks to deliver to UK.... I ordered from Q-parts and arranged delivery to our LA office A colleague will bring them home next week - a MUCH cheaper and quicker solution.
11. When are you going to spill the beans?
12. e-mail from Mr Green 3 weeks until neck ships.... tick tock
13. Get a Babicz bridge
14.
That should cheer you up then
You sound like you know me IRL ??
15. It's arrived and surprisingly the UPS man didn't charge any VAT nor import duty! RESULT!

17.
If this were made by me I'd want my own name on it.
If I did that with mine it would have Gibson written on it - I think that would be somewhat confusing, don't you? Ha Ha

19.
I have also run 1 x 15 and 2 x 10 Hartke cabs through a HA2000 and they sounded really good and the amp never blew up.
it wouldn't as both those cabs are 8 ohms meaning the total load is 4 ohm [8x8/8+8= 64/16 ] and HA amps do run to 4 ohms
20.
I think I recall (although this may be wishful thinking) that Alex said they could be run in parallel due to something to do with impedence but I may well be making that up???
Only with amps that run down to 2 ohms
21.
Is there anything I can do????
You could use them in series perhaps but would need a little rewiring and adding an extra speakon to one of the cabs.
22. Is the 11.18.80 on the neck pocket sticker a date per chance? 18th November 1980 ?? Possible as S serials ran a fair way into the 80s didn't they and S89* is quite a late S serial So I suspect it is 80/81 build to 78 spec.... Is there a date written on the heel of the neck?

24. Does the PF500 run down to less than 4 ohms? The S12 is a 4ohm cab and the compact is 8 ohm - using both together will give a load lower than 4ohms so you need an amp that will run down to 2 ohms - I didn't know the PF500 could do this. 4x8 / 4+8 = 32/12 = 2.666666666 ohm Edit for clarity as to what this means: running both cabs together from your PF500 is likely to blow up your amp
