1. I have a Status neck bolted to a Warmoth DinkyP body. It is by far the nicest bass to play i've ever owned and at 7lbs 3oz I can wear it for hours.
2. 2.2lbs is unfeasibly light for a solid body - unless it's made of balsa
3.
A Sessionette 100 by any chance? I used to torture one badly with extended bass feedback drones on my Hofner Verithin. Amazed it carried on working sometimes.
yes 4x10 sessionette 100 combo - I sold it to moonbassalpha of this parish 25 odd years ago Our guitarist still uses a Session 75 guitar amp from the same vintage.
4. I'm not sure I understand the folk who shell out for the high end gear only to sell it on at great loss a few months later. I'm from the buy well, buy once school of thought and tend to hang on to stuff until it's either stolen or broken beyond repair. That said i dod sell a hartke cab once and years ago a Session combo but only after years of use.
5.
They could have picked a better one to take a photo of!
How wonky is that neck plate?
6. I have a Warmoth PJ fretted bass which is soon to be given a fretless neck. I've never really liked the pickup combination in it - I have a Fender 'original 62' P pickup and an Allparts J bridge pickup fitted. I'm not sure if it's a wiring issue or poorly matched pickups but these pickups don't blend well and the P pickup tends to dominate unless wound off almost completely. It's wired VVT. So I'm looking to replace the pups with something which allows me more control over the pups and bring the bridge pup into play more for those smooth fretless tones. What would you suggest?
7. I had this problem with a bass once and found that the bridge wire was connected to one pot, the output jack earth was connected to the other pot but the two pot bodies weren't connected meaning the first pot was not earthed properly.
8. I have Jazz necks and Babicz bridges on 2 of my P basses and as a result the strings are not quite widely spaced enough to sit exactly between the pole pieces of my Fender 'original 62' pickups. It makes no difference to the sound but I can understand how those with OCD might get frustrated.
Another happy Puma 900 owner here. Plenty of power and an EQ that works for me (the more complex an EQ is, the more chance I have of messing it up).
just what i was going to say. I replaced my stolen GB Shuttle9.2 with the Puma 900 and I have no complaints. In fact I prefer the Puma,.
11. I think I'll go for another option....I've a Warmoth PJ that I NEVER use....I think I'll get a lined fretless jazz neck and stick it on that.
12. I've never played a fretless and quite fancy giving it a go, so I'm toying with the idea of picking up a cheap one to try it. Probably would prefer (for practicality) a lined fretless or I'm likely to get lost. I prefer narrower jazz width necks and I prefer also slim necks front to back. Is there such a bass at a budget price? What would you recommend to someone looking to buy his first fretless that might meet these neck specs?
13. John Cage's well known work 4'33" which famously runs to 4'33" of total silence was originally to be called 4'58" but someone kicked over a beer can towards the end of the session.

15. The best onstage sound I ever had was through an Ampeg 8x10 at Gagarin205 in Athens....I feel your anguish.....my Super12T doesn't quite give the same vibe...

17. Minotaur do great wide straps which I find help a lot. http://www.thomann.de/gb/minotaur_leather_straps.html I do a 2 to 2 1/2 hour set and have been making my basses lighter and lighter....gotoh resolite tuners & babicz aluminium bridge help keep the weight down.
18. One thing I'll add is in my experience higher quality basses are easier to play because they're easier to set up properly. Because they're easier to play it's easier to improve your technique and everyone's a winner.
19.
I wonder how many bands have bassists who play Squiers with Fender labels on the headstock.
For years and years I played a Squier with a Squier label on the headstock (albeit a JV) the budget bass of the early 80s. I've recorded albums with it. It's retired now. I don't have a branded bass these days as have built the basses I use from Warmoth and Status parts. I sort of have GAS for a Spector NS2 at the moment but I'm sure it will pass
20. Anyone on Sonar X2 tried W10 yet? Also got myriad VSTs which I need to know will work: ReFx Nexus ReFx vanguard Kontakt4 Superior Drummer 2 Melodyne Editor Battery3 Ampeg Svx Guitar Rig4 etc etc
21. gold hardware Coffee table finishes quilted/flamed tops any fancy wood actually natural finishes slab sided bodies - got to have a forearm and tummy cut a bass has 4 strings or less - more than 4 strings is wrong
22.
What does that prove?

Oh - and apparently they class themselves as musicians. Can anyone of you youngsters explain all of this to an old feller?
Just showing that some DJs actually ARE musicians
23.
I find that most bizarre and at the same time, very cool indeed.
Tony and I have been doing stuff together for 30 years! Long before A&B was even dreamed of.
24. Our guitarist is 1/3 of Above and Beyond. they headline lots of festivals (Glatonbury/Creamfields Ibiza etc etc) as DJs. All 3 of them are competent musicians and excellent producers. They earn their living DJing all over the world. They can do proper live music too as this performance of acoustic arrangements of their club songs demonstrates: https://www.youtube....-I&spfreload=10
25. Only string for me: d'Addario Half rounds ENR71 45-100....best of all worlds
