  1. I think they don't have the same allure as Fenders do for most people and are not as revered. Obviously us lot know they're the real deal and worth the money, but it's supply and demand. More people buying them new and shifting them on than people wanting them 2nd hand means prices drop.
  2. I had a 5 string Corvette $$, huge array of sounds and perfect for the music I was doing at the time. Amazing quality etc, but that neck is what alienated me. Too narrow a string spacing on too thick a neck, that and a lack of fret markers saw me move it on. I'd like another I'm the future perhaps, but not the way the pricing is going
  3. Looks like you have to order a lot at a time for that site. Not sure what you can do with 200 knobs (but I bet ped does).
  4. Someone buy this. I would but erm, I already have one. Great price and a very versatile instrument.
  5. Pass the bucket.
  6. I'd willingly have it back, hindsight taught me how good it was. Alas just bought a new combo and not sold my old one to pay for it.
  7. Bump for my old bass, that must add some value for the prestige factor.
  8. Bucket please.
  9. I'd not get both, I like too much diversity in my gear to have the same bass just with a different preamp. Would like the chance to A/B though.
  10. I want to try an M series to see what they're like compared to the L2000. Wouldn't ever change it though.
  11. I don't think I've ever had a battery die on me, I've only changed them due to paranoia that it's been a while. My G&L still has the original after nearly 2 years. But I do use Procells where I can.
  12. Tried one at Birmingham show last week. It was good, but I wasn't convinced it'd be loud enough for me and I like headroom so even though it was a good deal at £269 I gave it a miss and went for a GenzBenz Contour 500 instead (extra £130).
  13. One of the all time under rated basses ? If this had a Fender logo you could add a 1 to the start of the price. USA made, solid as a rock and does so many sounds, someone buy please as I don't need 2 .
  14. Still not had chance ! Yes 8ohm cab extension possible to run at full 500w.
  15. Got sent one of these from BassDirect today to see if it can replace my Ashdown ABM setup. I hurt my back Saturday night carting the 30KG Ashdown 210 cab up my stairs and its still hurting now. This combo is 10KG lighter than my cab alone and 22KG lighter than my combined head/cab weight. I've not had chance to crank it yet but will next week. Serious bargain at £399 whatever happens. If I'm happy I'll sell my Ashdown rig and should be able to recuperate most of the cost. More to follow after a proper test .
  16. I still miss the one I reviewed a few years ago. Cracking instrument and silly price, good luck with the sale .
  17. No point really. Mobile site is fit for purpose.
  18. Nice move. My L2000 still surprises me with what it does. Compared to others UV the price range it's a clear winner. I'd have a JB2 too if it weren't for the understated appearance.
  19. My 1979 Peavey T-40 weighs 12lbs, if it lost weight over time I fear for the spinal distortion the original owner encountered.
  20. I find if anything, my GAS has been extinguished for nearly a year. I'm not playing a lot at the moment and find when I do pick up the instruments and have a play I find them more satisfying than if I was playing them all the time. I think familiarity breeds contempt sometimes and you start to get wandering eyes and look for 'the one' you will always keep and never sell. After lots of trading i've finally realised what I have does everything I need, and to get anything else i'd have to lose one of these, and probably relpace it with something of lesser ability. With this said, I am surprised so many people are trying to offload gear at the moment, there can't be a worse time to sell with it being the start of a year and also everyone having such tight purse strings. It'd be interesting if we were able to quantify/report on what sells here, create a percentage of sold and also be able to plot the values of the sale and track this historically.
  21. They do TRY to market their items in reasonable places, but it is not clear who they are aiming their product at. Fender and Musicman's target market is quite obvious in their advertising, but G&L seems to float. I do see them in a few shops but they're generally overlooked by most people who probably think they're Fender copies .
  22. Depends a lot on if the individual plays for themselves and the music or to be 'cool' and cares for the opinions of their peers I guess.
  23. I'm happy for G&L to stay as an unknown treasure. I'll find them less cool off everyone else starts using them ! At an audition on Thursday I was complimented by more than one on the sound I was producing (my playing was OK too !). But they hadn't heard of the name. I explained the history behind them and they were amazed, they had no idea Leo did anything else.
  24. I used to buy the mag religiously, but in the last few months I don't even bother picking the magazine up to flick through anymore. The format has become stagnant (I don't slap or play 5 string ring any bells ?) and a revamp in content is desperately needed to refresh things. I feel that the content template has just been carried on from the previous editor. The page formatting and design has changed, but i'm unsure if this is positive. Whilst it may be easier for the reviewers to get high end basses in from certain specialist shops, it is terribly skewed towards the high end market. I am sick of reading about a £3000 bass I will never buy, who will ? Maybe 1 person who buys the magazine ? Worth it for the shop/manufacturer that sent the bass for review, but not the magazine. I think a move towards backing up their reviews with online content (video sound samples etc) would be highely beneficial. If it is a case that there isn't enough demand from bassists for this magazine to evolve or infact die out entirely, then it would be a sad loss, but no great surprise.
