1. A pleasure to deal with Mr Diamond... fantastic bass, fantastic communication, fantastic packaging!! Thanks again
 2.
I didn't expect so many replies to this question. You guys are really spoiling me with your suggestions and wise words. Many thanks and at the same time damn you all for opening up a whole load of alternative avenues to explore. Loving that Fender Custom made... perhaps a blind sale????? mmmmmmmm

3.
Currently selling a custom shop classic jazz and am open to offers http://basschat.co.u...m-classic-jazz/
yowsers! that is very nice indeed - would very much love to check it out - but Ireland!! toooooo far!
 4. thanks for the info on 50s Fenders people - figured that out rather quickly but too late for all yous in the know!
 5. £600 ? That's very doable. A copy '50 then?
I've been browsing the market for old P-basses, but found out that I like the new ones better. Old isn't necessarily better, just older.
indeed!...
Some very respected professionals say very good things about the roadworn Jazz basses. Here's a review from Basschat's very own Outtoplayjazz http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 .
and the 'you'll find quality here' continues! Too many options, all road tested, all good. AAAAAAAAHHHGGGGG!
 6.
Can I recommend the classic 50s models ? I tried one recently and it was awesome
aren't they rather pricey? I'm happy to spend but 50s models are silly money in my researching experience...
 7. SH - Southampton - nearer than Wigan but not where I live. Considering all these posts has led me to ask myself whether a Fender is truely the answer for an upgrade on my faithful Stingray and enough bass to make the picture complete ... I originally thought that a vintage or deluxe Fender would be the route to take and I'm a man of traditional intent at heart so it was logical - until reading all the posts which have planted seeds of alternatives in my thoughts. More time is clearly needed!
 8.
Above, oh yes! Where do you live? I live in Wigan and have 1P, 1 P/J and 2 J's. More than welcome to come and have an hour or two pratting about on them. Not much use if you live in Southampton obviously, but I bet someone round there would make the same offer if they were aware.
you seem to have ALL the basses... fantastic offer! Unfortunately I'm nowhere near Wigan (closer to SH). Would take you up on the offer otherwise. Is there a similar but more local offer? I doubt it! I've been looking at Sadowsky. They seem rather nice. Perhaps it's a case of 'do I want to own a Fender for its quality and classic reputation?' vs 'do I want a bass that has all that Fender can offer plus some?' This post has presented me with more questions rather than answered the few that I had to start with... in a good way. mmmmmmm
 9.
Only you can decide what feels right, and what feels right will be the "fastest" for you.
... valid point...
I love a p bass. Would you consider either bass made by a different manufacturer? Lakland? Sadowsky? Mike lull?
I'd have to stick with the Fender stamp. After all this time, it's has to be really. I'm assuming all you have mentioned are quality alternatives?
 10. OK, after a quick web scan it seems there is a leaning towards post-08' Fenders. Thanks for the heads-up. Any thoughts on vintage vs post 08'?
 11. all useful, all considered. Many thanks people.
Buy a post 2008 P or J from here s/h for around 650 to 750.
Why post 2008? And as far as vintage goes, any thoughts on a '75 model?
 12. Thanks for the feedback! - 'try them both' will probably be the general tone of posts - of course! that is the way to do it but whilst comparing one jazz and one precision will settle some aspects, there are a whole lotta options on models - what about the vintage vs new side of things for example?
 13. Hello folks, I have been using my faithful Music Man for over 16 years and have decided it is time for another bass. I'm not ditching the MM, not in any way, but I've always wanted a Fender to add to the 'collection' and I feel that now is the time. Question is, which one do I go for? I've considered vintage ('75 YOB), but would also consider recent manufacture. USA made. I'm thinking Jazz as it may have the faster neck that the Precision doesn't have (?). If any of you folk can throw any bass bones I'd very much appreciate it! I'm not expecting a finite answer - it doesn't exist (surely!) - perhaps just some words of enthusiasm for a particular model or some wise words on the oh so well known brand of bottom end. Many thanks!
