1.
I am trying to decipher the whole amp thing. its complicated.
You're not wrong, there's lot's of terminology and concepts that you have to get to grips with ! I'm still learning things myself.
2. This isn't just me being biased towards Ashdown - but I really wouldn't bother with the Fender.
3.
Or just the MAG C410T 300 combo, because the 4x10" can handle 450w (according to the ashdown web catalog).
Not sure on that one - I was under the impression the MAG410 ran at 8ohm so you can still have another cab. Sure the cab can handle 450w but the head won't put anywhere near that through it.
4. For me since 2002:

Squier Bronco - Fiesta red, first ever bass, got it cheap and didn't know any better ! Sold.
Stagg BC305 - Sunburst, first 5 string, in hindsight it was a dog. Sold.
Stagg MB300 - Black, Stingray copy, not too bad but passive. Sold.
Yamaha RBX775 - Flat blue metallic, 21st birthday present from parents, still got it and have defretted it, sounds fantastic.
Vintage V940FL - Bubinga PJ fretless, great bass but terrible electronics. Sold.
Spector Q6 Pro - Holoflash black, from SoundControl for £330, sold it a year later for £300 after I couldn't get on with the high C and also it didn't sound as good as the RBX. Sold.
Yamaha BB614 - Natural, bought by my Dad from PMT for £250, swapped it later for the Jazz.
Ibanez Musician MC900 (1980) - Bought from PMT for £250 (again !), cleaned and later swapped for the Stingray, nice profit there !
Fender Jazz (2000) - Sunburst, swapped BB614 for this, setup wasn't great but have since put Nordstrand pickups and D-Tuner on it, had an issue with stripped truss rod nut but have since managed to fix that. Sounds wicked now.
Musicman Stingray (1996) - Everything a Stingray should be, natural body + maple neck, yum ! Sold.
Lakland Skyline 55-02 (2005) - Natural, swapped for Stingray as I wanted a fretted 5 string again, probably the best of the lot. Does every sound I want and a fantastic neck.
Hohner Arbor Precision 1985ish - Bought by my Dad from a pawn shop for £40, since rewired and setup - sounds fantastic ! He's got it at the moment but said he'll get bored of it soon as it's mine (he plays guitar). Weighs a tonne and the neck is HUGE, but it's solid as a rock.
5. I think the thread is in good humour and know some gay people who would find it quite amusing !
6. Nicely done chaps ! Glad that as a community we have managed to help someone out again !
7. Yes it would require an ext cab to get the full rating of the amplifier. On it's own it'd be about 200w. That said - my ABM300 with a MAG210 cab runs at 8ohms too and I don't need to crank it.
8. What I mean is you don't need an allen key. An alley key will work in the same way the screwdriver does above, there is no need for it to be hexagonal.
9. Don't really need one at all ! Anything thin enough and metallic should do the job, i've used a screwdriver in the past. See this pic courtesy of google:
10.
dust on the surface of bass.....
I think he should offer a discount for this abomination !
11. You will easily get £250 on eBay (have been keeping track recently). Seen some go for £290 !
12. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Japanese-Fender-Stin...%3A1|240%3A1318 Not bad going for a 500 quid bass !
13. You could have a line out from your hifi headphone socket to the input of the head.. impedence should be close enough. I've used my amp as an MP3 player by doing the same.
14. I used my old EB180-12 with my existing MAG210 and it was great. Never did experience issues with 'mismatched drivers' . Here's a pic of it i've dug out..
15. Fender will for a long time run off their reputation. I don't think there's many people who will pretend that Fender are 'up there' in the industry as far as quality and value for money is concerned. The fact that you see them being played by most bands on TV means they will always be the bass to desire for kids who want to learn.
16. Looks like they only want the margins to go one way..
17. It looks hot with that black perloid plate.. Jeannies did you say ? Must have a look for my 55-02. It has one on from the original owner but I always like a change of clothes !
18. Let me introduce... http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/11...ring_super_long
19. My parents have that sofa in that colour ! .
20. Because they get paid to play them too ! Yamaha can afford it far more than some small custom luthier.
21. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Jazz-Bass_W0Q...%3A1|240%3A1318 It looks so genuine !
22. What have you got now ?! EDIT: Ok found it.. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=33590 Didn't have you down as the headless type ! .
23. I played with both in PMT Birmingham a few weeks ago, preferred the BTB for looks and SR for feel .
24. £175 for the cab ? Argh...
25. I have just messaged gareth about this, unfortunately not for the first time.
