1. I think it looks awesome, not sure i'd ever have the balls (excuse the pun) to do that to a pricey bass though. I assume it's a keeper ?
2. If anyone is passing Birmingham on the M6 i'd be willing to chuck some fuel money in for a lift .
3. Just spoke to Chris May on the phone, had a good chat about this new range and he will be sending me an instrument for review when they come in .
4. Most bass pickups are passive, but may have an active preamp - this is probably what you mean ! I'd say it's not critical to getting the tone, you can always use the EQ on an amp to boost frequencies. Most important I think is 2 pickups and fresh strings.
5. I've only got 2 instruments i've had more than 2 years: Yamaha RBX775 - Which I defretted 4 years ago, have since refinished it. Bought as a 21st birthday present so won't part with it. Vintage VP6 - my first guitar (from before I played bass). Emotional attachment is there but also, it's actually pretty damned good. Others i've generally got bored of and traded/sold.
6.
It's not actually a virus until you panic and press "Ok" (or Cancel or anything....). It's a nasty bit of social engineering. If you get something like that, just close the page or tab. Don't give it permission to download something - which will be a virus.
+1 this. At work I am the person who has to remove it for you .
7.
I remember how popular Warwick used to be, I saw a photo of Sound Control Manchester that machines took with his phone years ago, it was wall-to-wall with Warwicks!
Just been through several hundred pics from 2005/6 and alas cannot find it, oh well.
8. I've played both the semi hollow ASAT (borrowed from tonyf when he went on holiday) and homer's Spector at a bash in 2005.. small world.
9. When they're out i'll do my best to get hold of one to review on the site, they look very intriguing.
10. Because much like cars, you can buy the 'same model' you could 10 years ago but it's completely different (e.g. Ford Focus) but the year of production will tell some people more about an instrument than just it's name.
11. Is the app free to download for phone users ? It seems to be $3 according to their website, I think not many people would really want to use it, might be worth a poll at some point. It's not worth the effort if only a few people want it.
12. Hi Vintage, please drop me a PM. It would be better if you posted the bass and info on here rather than just a link to it .
13. We have a thread for stolen instruments: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=107324 .
14. Please be advised if you do sell it us admins want some of the action (30%), think of it as a donation to the website. Don't pay up and we'll ban you from the internet, forever.
15. Despite acknowledging the marketing is most definitely overcooked, I'd still like to have one to play with and experiment. Only I will decided if it really works, no-one else. That said, no way i'd splash out for it new...
16.
Here's a quick pic of my collection of abused and misused ... L-R: Music Man Stingray 5 Iceni Zoot Funkmeister Yamaha TRB 5 Stuart Spector Designs NS94 Double bass of unknown origin Full details on my blog
Reminds me of a Facebook pic where some fat bloke is taking the whole pic up .
17. My Overwater has had a few owners I think since 2002. To me - it's flawless in construction and sounds truely amazing. But - it doesn't do everything my previous basses have done in one package. It's a good all round bass, but doesn't suit everything. I don't think i'd be brave enough to order a custom of my own without expecting it to disappoint me in some way, and after dumping that much money on it - I couldn''t cope with any flaw and would end up selling at a heavy loss. I think i'm much better off having one expensive bass 'all round' with a couple of others for certain niches.
18. I agree Fenders hold their price well, I sold a MIM recently for a price not far off what they used to be new. Alas they're now a lot more and the 2nd hand price has gone up with them.
19. For a home fiddler like me it'd be great, I could spend days trying to work it out and getting new sounds. Then again - the normal Reflex is probably the same for that !
20. Hmm I think I want one, damn it.
21. Finally got round to watching the vids (whilst skipping the guitar parts). It's an interesting idea, however I expect a LOT of the sounds are so similar as to be indistinguishable from each other, thus a waste of time. I have respect for them for trying a new approach though, sounds like Sterling Ball got a bit bored of how things are currently (despite releasing a lot of new models recently). I'd definitely like to sit down with one for a few hours and see what happened - am looking forward to seeing some prices.
22. That's a stunner, it might help if you added a cash value to help people know what sort of thing you're looking to trade for . P.s. I can't see any bubinga in that bass ?
23. The simple fact that it is not slow for everyone means it is not a server load issue. It could be a routing issue between your section of the ISP and the BC data centre. Hard to actually do anything about - how long has it been an issue ?
24. Try another browser (Chrome/Firefox etc), does problem still occur ? Also what speed connection are you on, is it going through a wireless or 3G link ? Are any other sites slow ? It's super quick for me.
25. Sold ! Thanks ObscureRyan .
