  1. Very pretty Jaguar style bass in Manchester, on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134273431200
  2. Sire U5 (technically only a Jazz in looks, as it has a P pickup in the neck position). Rockbass (Warwick) Corvette shortscale. Atelier Z Baby Z-4J (not cheap, and basically only available on the Japanese domestic market). Fender Modern Player Short Scale Jazz (also a PJ). Or, coolest of all: Fender Japan Junior Jazz (also Japan-only, but does pop up once in a while).
  3. Owning both a 4-string and a 5-string Streamer LX, I can tell you it will get you nowhere near Jazz Bass territory tonally. The stock active MEC pickups are very polite and clear sounding, quite hifi even, and because both pickups are closer to the bridge than the traditional Jazz Bass positions it doesn't have any of the warmth or the character. Other factors, like the solid maple body of the LX and Warwick's very rigid necks, are also a major influence. That said, it's still a very versatile workhorse with a huge range of tones. But it will always sound like a Warwick. In terms of versatility, the Corvette $$ (or the less common Streamer $$) will be better suited if you're looking for a Swiss Army bass. Some other options worth considering: Lakland to me are the pioneers of the MM-J pickup configuration and both the USA models and the Asian Skyline series are solid, look and sound great, but I believe all their 5-strings have a 35" scale which won't be to everyone's liking. @thodrik already mentioned Sandberg, who have many models with the MM-J, MM-P or dual MM configuration as an option and they're stellar too. Lesser-known outside of Germany, Clover may also be an option. They have some basses with Delano hybrid MM-style pickups with one half that has traditional J-style pole pieces which gives it less of that MM-style brightness when split.
  4. I used to hate nu metal when it was at its height in the late 90s, early 00s. Especially if it had rap vocals - and in particular if they came out of Fred Durst's mouth. I liked symphonic, gothic and progressive metal at that time, and some black and death. Nowadays I do appreciate some of the bands of that time. I've come to love Linkin Park, Drowning Pool, and I'll occasionally put on Limp Bizkit's Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavoured Water and Significant Other. It's probably a sentimental, throwback kind of thing in the same way that I can listen to 90s pop and Eurodance (which I also used to HATE with a passion) and reminisce about my younger days
  5. This thread is incredibly GAS-inducing. Their basses just look so well-made, and beautifully sculpted. True works of art, and they've put thought in every little detail. I know of no other luthier or brand whose headstock shapes match their bodyshapes so well.
  6. Not mine, but worth posting here:
  7. Very cool project! A friend of mine (former guitarist of my band) has recently finished something similar which he also built around a Raspberry Pi, with 8 footswitches, a display for each switch, and programmable multicolour LEDs around each footswitch. He had the casing custom made with lasercut logo, and 3D-printed the sides. Turned out really cool!
  8. Never seen this before, but that looks great! It's a whole lot cleaner than having to add an extra adapter behind the headpiece. I've sold my Hohner B2A last year, otherwise I would have been VERY interested. I don't mind having to buy double ball strings, and really like Status Hotwires, but I tend to favour Elixirs on everything else and would have loved to be able to use them on my Hohner. Shame it's not symmetrical though, for us lefties! Edit: I see the same seller lists a version for the 5-string Spirit. Would that fit a Hohner 5-string as well? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185572620611
  9. At De Melkweg in Amsterdam, they have a "monthly subscription fee" of €4 (or €25 for a full year) that you have to pay, even when you don't plan on coming back any time soon. Not a huge fee, but very annoying.
  10. Looks nice, and they definitely took a good look at what Mono is doing! I like that it holds the neck, but I would have liked to see some sort of neck support underneath that strap. I'm looking for a new guitar gigbag for my G&L ASAT Special so I'm watching this thread with interest (as most of the mentioned bass gigbags have a guitar version too) . There's a rather nice G&L gigbag that comes with the Fullerton Deluxe models but is available separately as well, but it's out of stock almost everywhere right now
  11. This monstrous medium scale Atelier Z Beta 5 was just shared on a Dutch forum that I frequent, and I think it is a beast! Though some of you lot are probably going to complain about the maple board / matching headstock combination https://www.tools4tones.nl/index.php?route=product/product&path=76&product_id=11614
  12. Looks really nice, and if that external storage bag has the same dimensions as the Mono Tick (which, at 83 GBP, is a ridiculously overpriced piece of kit) it will comfortably house a Pedaltrain Nano.
  13. I think that's the case here too, the black tummycut and forearm contour are usually a dead giveaway for either a plywood body or a body made up of more than 3 narrow strips of wood with a veneer top and back to cover up the multipiece body. Which isn't necessarily bad, but can be. Maybe @Bassassin can be more specific about the origins of the body. I agree with @Paolo85 that the neck appears to be aftermarket.
  14. Most of my basses always sit ready at hand in a rack, but for the last few years I've owned more basses than my rack fits. Currently my Status S2 Classic 5-string lives in a Mono gigbag because it's the one that gets out the door most, but it also means it sees less use at home. The real forgotten favourite has to be my Ellio Martina Forza 5-string though. It's more or less an active Jazz Bass, built by the guy that also builds the elusive and unobtainable Bassmute, and it's fantastic. It used to be my absolute number one, but it fell out of grace with my band after I first brought my Warwick Streamer LX5 and they all said in unison: "This is the one!" Here's a pic from 2014, which was probably the last time I used it live
  15. KLOS sent a new mailing out last night, with an update regarding the graphite aftermarket necks which looked promising. They're now offering necks for most 25.5" scale Fender and Squier guitars with a more traditional Fenderesque headstock shape. Prices will be $700, but there's an early bird deal of $400. I wonder if and when bass necks will be available!
  16. I'm not sure I get this. Is the neck too concave or too convex? And does the bass have a two-way truss rod, or is it single-action?
  17. Not mine, but I was able to testdrive this wonderful Herr Schwarz 5-string back in 2012 and it still haunts me in my sleep. It was incredible, and the attention to detail on it was just astonishing. So well thought-out and well-executed, and almost no off-the-shelf parts!
  18. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175427909532 Lovely!
  19. Real happy with this TGI case: https://www.southernukulelestore.co.uk/tgi-abs-tenor-ukulele-case-very-tough-best-value/ It was affordable, it's tough, it looks great and fits my Kala KA-STG perfectly.
  20. Beautifully crafted, but em... I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. https://www.notreble.com/buzz/2022/07/25/bass-of-the-week-kio-extraordinary-string-instruments-design-waldeinsamkeit/
  21. I'm really happy with my TC Electronic Polytone 3 Nano. I bought the Noir edition, to match the black of all other pedals on my small board. I also have two TC Unitune Clips that I use at home a lot.
  22. Wholeheartedly agree. I own a Kala KA-STG which is one of their most affordable tenor models with a solid top (spruce, in this case) and I love it. It is by no means perfect (I had to level one slightly raised fret, and lower the action) but now it plays and sounds great. I love the looks, it's plenty loud and sounds warm and rich. For now it has a regular high G string for traditional re-entrant tuning, but I will be trying a low G at one point.
