1. Hey gang Despite having my heart set on a nice old maple-necked P for a while now, this little rosewood sweetheart has ended up following me home.... She's been well played... obviously she's been refinned - whoever did it has done a pretty good job. The guard seems to be original, but has a couple of cracks in it. The pups have been replaced with Barts, and the jack sockets and pots are replacements. The original orange cap is in there. She's VERY light - my bathroom scales say 8lb 2oz, but she balances perfectly. There's no neck dive at all. I really didn't want another rosewood P, but after taking her up to Howard the Bass Doc for a once-over and a tweak, I can't put her down. She plays like a dream. I wasn't intending to, but I used her at a session yesterday - she's a bit more aggressive than my 'burst '71 who didn't get picked up all day . It's a nice contrast to have. My GAS for a maple P might turn out to be insatiable, but at the moment, I think she's staying....
2.
If he offers a 10 hole P bass version I could be in trouble!
Absolutely - expensive, but they look great. I have a project on the go that could do with one of these...!
3. Not essential, but well worth it.
4. It's 'Wilko'. Just sayin'. This is Wilco: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B24la7sQsCw
5.
Hi everyone, this song may not be to everyones liking but how does the bassist get this sound when he starts playing at 0.39.
Sounds like a DB to me.... http://youtu.be/WR7efZyHOLY
6. Looks OK fer me..?
7. Strange... it's come from nowhere. I've binned all my filters - no change. Set 'em up again - no change. The junk filter is having none of it...!
8. Hey gang Have any Gmail users out there had problems with BC notifications over the last few days? All my BC notifications are getting dumped in Junk mail, and no matter what I do - set up filters, flag 'em as not junk, it's not making a jot of difference...
9. I feel his pain. As I've mentioned before, too many engineers are lazy, and reach straight for the default bass EQ, which unfortunately is tailored for rounds. And it sounds bollocks. If you have time, you can work with them to get something usable. Thankfully there are a few that I work with who know who are sympathetic to flats. They should be wrapped in cotton wool.
10. He's comes across as a proper amiable guy. I wish Fender would sell that mute kit separately...
11.
Fender have started doing the new 'pure vintage' pickguards from the new American Vintage stuff. I've ordered one for my Nate Mendel. Eye-wateringly not cheap...
Are these new? The pic on the website (below) looks like the usual tort that's been around for years..? Compare to....
12.
MIM version also on ebay, slightly less expensive: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2a3820e328
MIM version of what..?
13. ...that reminds me - I have your white guard for it. PM me your address...
14.
I hate to quibble here WoT but isn't that my Roscoe Beck?
Well if you want to be pedantic about it Hope you're enjoying it. It's a good'un.
15. Here's a (very complicated!) tort guard the Doc created for my Rosoce Beck. It's light-years better than the super-sharp pepperoni you usually get.
16. I'd also like to +1 th Bass Doc's tort guards. He gets closer than any that I've seen, and are enough to fool anyone who isn't a sad anorak.
17. There's a depth and a complexity to the old stuff you just don't get with the modern printed stuff.
18. Quite. I think I'm just bored of it, 'cos it's already been done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRwgNtv29ig
19.
She sings that way mate. That's her voice. Most singers use affectation.
...but generally not as much as the guy who does the voice of Donald Duck.
20.
Hey man, she has a beautiful voice.
So why did she hide it under that hopeless affectation? Genuine question. I don't really know any of her stuff - she might not always sing like that.
21. Ellie Gouding? Sing properly, pet. The silly voice just sounds daft.
22.
I think the Precision was pitched at upright bass players. When the Precision was released Fender was producing instruments for the Hillbilly and Folk and Hawaiian bands that were popular at the time.
The press releases and ads from the time suggest it was pitched at bass players and guitarists. The presence of frets was angled to be a great thing... a step into a brave new world of precise intonation.
23.
Whatever cab you end up with, you'll still need a hi-mid or horn to get any useable top out of it... or at least I would. Even Berg AE112's can go missing in that regard, IME.
Depends what you're after. I do just fine without.
24. I realise this is a list of everyone's favourite 1x12's, but the TKS 112's (www.tks.se) should definitely be in the running. Ceramic, featherweight, and very reasonably priced. You can do a lot with a single cab, but pair 'em up and you feel like you could handle pretty much anything.
