1.
Most people's knee jerk reactions that it's red tape and a money making opportunity are normally based on bullshit.
Yep. See below.
But some contractors do take the piss by giving people wrong information so they can increase work.
Yep. See above.
2. The point of PAT testing is wooly at best, and at worst it's a money-printing machine.
3. Dave Wilson is in Haltwistle, east of Carlisle. There's no-one better... trusted by Mark Knopfler and Stefan Sobel.
4.
Seen this posted before but worth another viewing, really enjoyable Zepp purists will be along presently to give it a slating
Meh.. I'm a big fan, but I wouldn't say I'm a purist. I just find it overblown and syrupy. And I HATE the way they resolve it at the end. But then, Zep were guilty of that too.
5. EVERYTHING about this is awesome. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Custom-Rush-Fly-By-Night-Inspired-Bass-Guitar-/111268826587
6.
The serial number is 549374, don't know if you can date it from that.
Within a year or to... '75-ish. You'd need to pop the neck off really.
7.
It does "look" clean. Didn't black scratchplates come back around 1975 and bass-side thumbrests in 1976?
Nah - 74-ish.
8. Hard to tell from two small photos, but I can't see anything the suggests it's not a well looked-after '74P. It might be a refin, but there's no reason why it has to be.
9. I love these early-80s basses. So unique. Good luck with the sale.
10. If there's a mic, pre via a DI. If there's no mic... post. Unless I go pre.
11.
Mods: Is this allowed nowadays? i.e replying to a question on the thread within the 36 hrs? (Sorry if not!)
Answering questions is fine
12.
How does "literally" fit in here? It's either quite funny or it's not. Where does literally come into it. Please advise. Many thanks.
Oi fink he's just using a bit of playful language. That's all.
13. Just watched this on Netflix. God, it's good. Even if you just have a passing interest in the subject, give it a watch. It's a rock-doc benchmark.
14. WTF? You made me click on this thread only to find there isn't a scene involving a bass guitar? I feel used.
15. I have this bass's twin, and it'll go with me to my grave. It's a beautiful-sounding (and looking) thing. Good luck with the sale...
16. If you do Facebook, ask on here. There's bound to be someone local who can help. Mind you, I'm sure your gear is fine.
17.
True, very true. My reason for saying Fender is that a) I've never owned a vintage one, and in order to dip my toe into this murky and slightly dodgy world of vintage, so called vintage, fake vintage, Chinese vintage and the rest, I figured the safest and most easily verified way would be with a Fender. I am also of the opinion that a good bass guitar will always be better than me as I learn so I don't need to spend £10k, but at £2k I figure I can take that risk. I need to play more basses of any make. Cheers, Rich B
And, to be uncouth about it, unlike something custom-built. you're not going to lose a fortune as soon as you drive it off the forecourt. So to speak.
18. The currently-available micro-heads that I've tried just don't have it. They have to do all sorts of nonsense to 'sound' loud, which isn't quite the same as 'feeling' loud. IMO. Give me a lump of iron, please.
19. What's going on is this: if you were to look at what's being played under a microscope, you'd see a plethora of little pushes, pulls, ghost notes, mutes, variations in dynamics. All these transform the straight sequence of notes you're currently playing into the living, breathing soulful part you're aiming for. And it'll come - you just have to do it without thinking about it. And that's where experience comes in. It's good that you're thinking about at such an (presumably) early stage. But don't get too hung up on it. Chances are most of this will take care of itself subconsciously.
20. That's the bit that comes with experience. Just keep doing it.
21.
All of the Behringer and Bugera gear I've come across has been labelled "Made in China".
It could still be made in Rason in N. Korea. (I don't know if the previous poster has evidence that it is made in Rason. I don't.)
22.
DYNAMIZER Power Management technology for ultimate punch and to capture every nuance of your playing.
*shudder*
23.
Yes, 2000 watts (and only 1000 for the valve pre-amp version). Quite why they have to do this beats me - how many people will decide not to buy them through fear of damaging their speakers? Plus they`ve not got enough of a name in the bass amp market anyway. Keep them to the regular 500 watts which is plenty loud enough and if sales work out then add higher powered models. Seems daft to me.
Probably 2000 TC-style watts.
24. With that budget, Early 70s all the way. Prices are still reasonable-ish, they're generally well-built and a good weight, and they have a feel all of their own.
25. Dave's the man. His stuff is second-to-none.
