1. I don't think chunky necks were a QC thing, especially as they started appearing in the late 60s well before the rot set in.
2. Rod Clements of Lindisfarne... http://youtu.be/46ZPzgPTmho
3. Wings: the band the Beatles could have been.
4. I believe the necks are Allparts, and the bodies are made in Scotland. That's all I know.
5. EBS Microbass II. It's a SansAmp with more features that doesn't suck mids. Fantastic, but a bit more pricey...
6.
TC and Genz? You mean the ones who cheated about the power rating of their amps (250w instead of 450) and the ones recently shut down?. Very ahead indeed.
Dunno about Genz... if the Little Giant can be a 'real' 1000w, no reason why the Streamliner can't be 900w too. *cough*
7.
Some crummy phone pics for maple neck colour A couple next to a non aged neck
Great - thank you!
8. Better still: watch The Beatles Anthology, and get a real feel of what it must have been like at the time. Incredible.
9. Ah, the amp of kings. There's a sweet spot on the input where it goes fat before it drives. FInd that. FWIW, there's a lot of conjecture as to what the bass, mid and treble on the heads actually do. There's a lot of in-depth analysis and graphs over on TB. Generally, for my mid-rich fingerstyle prerefence, I have all three around 2 o'clock, and leave the para flat. If the room is boomy, I'll roll the low para right down to 30Hz and pull it back a few dB to taste. Some else will post up their completely different but just us useable EQ settings, no doubt.
10. This thread might give you something else to consider...
11. A friend of mine uses BEAD on a '63 Precision. It sounds great.
12. Lovely colour. The headstock is kind-of growing on me too, but I'll never get used to the font used on 'basses'. (I quite like the oval bridges)
13. Portability, tone and budget, in one awesome package... TKS Engineering S112.
14. Check out the H115 from TKS Engineering, too. www.tks.se I only have experience of the MK1 - if the smaller MK2 is comparable, it'll be remarkable.
15.
I just don't understand it. Ampeg come out with massively unreliable Class D amps and people defend them to the hilt. Ashdown come out with new technology and everybody uses this as a chance to get the boot in. If British bassists defended British manufacturers the same way American bassists defended theirs then this forum would be a slightly more positive place perhaps. Not sure we need pages of Ashdown bashing, and I'm glad to see a rep coming on here and kicking some backsides.
I can only speak from my POV: I've bashed Ampeg for bringing out massively unreliable class D amps before. Everyone knows Ampeg are a shell of what they used to be. My current view of Ashdown is clouded by the likes of the Superfly and Little Giant - even though they were both years ago, nothing has come out since that's set my world alight. The MiBass, for example... in a world where TC and Genz were blazing ahead on the features and design, they needed to pull it out of the bag. And they didn't. I'm not going to defend a business just because they're British. Why would I do that? I'd love to see them back where they belong, but the products and marketing are responsible for that. Not the opinions of numpties like me on the internet. By the way, did we find out where the B:Social is being manufactured?
16. According to Google, the one bolted to the wall in the previous post, which may or may not be the one in the OP, is an Alex Axe custom build.
17. This is all very useful. Thanks everyone!
18. Hey gang. Just pondering the G&L SB-2.... Are there many owners out there? I'm wondering about:

The lack of a tone knob
What the neck profiles are like
How heavy (or light) are they?
US vs. Tribute.. is there much in it?
How P does the P pickup get when solo'd?
...etc. Thanks in advance.
19.
I omitted something quite important in my review, and this is to confirm what others have said about the construction quality of TKS cabs - top notch in every respect.
Have you posted pics in here yet? If not, it doesn't exist :-)
20. I've just spotted that Tommy has added a page to his website that explains the effort he even puts in to the grille cloth. Along with the greatness of the cabs, it's that kind of attention to detail that should make others sit up and take notice, IMO.
21. Sounds like a great result! Is this the 'old' taller 115? If it is, FWIW, my experience with it was pretty much the same. In a small room, it sounded just... OK. But at the gig, with room to breathe, it's a different thing entirely. It opens right up, the mids shine, the lows are so supportive, and I never felt like I needed to turn it up particularly loud. Even with my Walkabout putting about 180w into 8ohm, it was solid and authoritative.
22. You spelled it wrong. It's 'Toni'.
23. Here's mine...
