1.
Oh somehow I missed that thread. Those cabs look delicious, don't they? I'm hoping they sound just as good. Cheers Geoff
They do - there's lots of threads on them, but shout up if you'd like to know anything specific.
2. You're missing the TKS S112.... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/251931-ncd-tks-engineering-s112-cover/
3. What a ridiculous bargain! If I didn't have my own Maruszczyk build in-progress...
4. The whole show has just popped up on YouTube, and - IMO - Geddy's voice renders it unlistenable. He just can't do it any more, which is a real shame.
5.
Wouldn't you think that Van, being the (cranky !!!) perfectionist that he is, would have copped how shabby is it/was and then made the appropriate changes ?
You would think, but apparently - back then, anyway - all he cared about was a good vocal take.
6. The version that ended up on the record was the first take, 'cos it had Van's favourite vocal on it. That might explain why the track itself is a bit shabby.
7.
I know all the issues with Neil's health etc, but has anyone heard or seen anything definitive that says they will not take R40 worldwide? I just don't see how it can be a farewell tour if they don't leave North America/Canada.
TBH, if one of big factors is logistics, I'd be over the moon if they just came over here with a minimal production. A couple of amps, and a few spots. That would be awesome. :-)
8. Permanent Waves and Signals would be first port'o'call for me. Today, anyway... Tomorrow, I'd suggest something else (but nothing post-Counterparts).
9.
Id love to hear these and 6" speakers sound great. I really like the bergantinos im using now, but I used to use 2x accugroove tri110s which had a 6" driver and I absolutely adored them. I am really interested in these TKS cabs, are they very clear/hi fi or are they a vintage sounding cab? im currently thinking 1×12, 1×6 and horn with the tweed covers and oxblood cloth x2
Tommy does every combination you can think of - tweeter / no tweeter / 6" / none of the above...
10. I've just watched a clip of them playing one of the surprises in the set. Thinking that - even through a crappy YouTube clip - the bass sounded better than it has is a while, I squinted a look at what he was using for that song. All I can say is... mwhahahahahaaa
11. Hey gang Just caught up on reports from the opening night of the Rush tour in Tulsa. They've pushed the boat out this time.. it's a hell of a concept. http://www.rushisaband.com/blog/2015/05/08/4336/Rush-R40-Live-tour-opening-night-in-Tulsa-open-thread-and-LIVE-setlist-SPOILERS After skipping the last tour I'd be tempted by this, but 'm not sure they could bring it to Europe. The logistics would be crazy.... We'll see.
12. The best choice there is if you want a small, portable head without going down the Class D route. These things have magic in them.
13. I'm not a fan of the spec of the U.S. GL. The maple blocks are.. meh. The pickguard is tacky. And it looks like it has long-stem tuners too, which is just.. weird. All IMO, of course.
14. Just as well he wasn't slapping. We'd be in the middle of a Raul Moat-style manhunt by now.
15.
Hahaha! I also love my Limelight P bass. I was close to pull the trigger on this bad boy But now a friend of mine is having it
Whoah.. when was that for sale? Lovely.
16. I've no idea where they were made, but the pickups in my '63 J sounded incredible - far better than any other J I've owned. And I've owned a lot...
17. I really like the look of those, but it's a shame they don't do a short-stem version...
18. Thread from the dead... Here's a RandySpot: http://www.tmz.com/2015/04/30/the-eagles-randy-meisner-wife-not-trying-to-kill-me-video-conservatorship/
19.
Instead of doing some Zep gigs Planty's busy ruining their songs by doing 'versions' of them. A world music experiment too far.
Yeah... 'I don't want to live in the past', said Plant, during a break from performing 40-year old songs with a band who's line-up simultaneously evokes the 1990s, 1950s and 1930's.
20. I think it's awesome, and it frustrates me that Bob Plant won't get over himself and do some gigs with them. Mind you. it was years ago now (scary to think!) so it makes you wonder if they could do it again. He should have struck while the iron was hot. My only disappointment with the O2 show is the terrible bass mix...
21.
That's about £700 though, and the OP's budget is around £500... Quite a big difference for us bassists on a budget
Ah, forgot about the recent price bump. Fair point..
22.
what do you mean it's only been a month!!! It feels like it's been a year!!! ... impatient, me? nah...
Yeah... I'm about five weeks in. Time needs to move a bit quicker.
23. A pair of TKS 112s. I doubt you'll get better for the money....
24. People pay monthly for houses and cars that they'll never own. It's not that radical a concept.
25. I'm not sure 600w into a physically small box is going to be possible or useful. Get a good quality 8ohm instead... TKS, Barefaced, etc.
