1.
we have a great drummer
Sorry to be harsh, but... you don't. It's a situation I'm familiar with. Once a drummer's hearing goes, it's a slippery slope.
 2.
It was their light weight that drew me to them, however I'm now smitten by their general vibe, they are the amazing Fenders that Fender never made. Perhaps the same for Thunderbirds too? Plus he has some great other models in the range. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of a good Fender Custom Shop, but my Lull's are just so different yet based on a Fender.
Yep - same experience for me with the Maruszczyk. Fender are flying on reputation alone at the minute.
 3. Check out Maruzsczyk. They'll build to your spec, and some of the fretlesses they've been coming out with look stunning, and they're very reasonably priced. Look at this Jake..!
 4.
loved that. The drummer is in the wrong band though. He should have been in this one.
LOL Teh drumer at teh RONG GIG!! LOL
 5.
There was an interview that Chad Smith did with Ginger, I won't link it - it's frightfully cringeworthy. He came across as a total arse. I read a few pages of his book, he came across as a total arse. I won't watch the film.
It's worth watching, despite the subject matter. It's an incredibly well-made film.
 6. I played the 15" version of this with the tweeter, and it was glorious. Such authority, with big, effortless lows. The addition of the 6" can only be a great thing.
 7.
Ringo is another under rated drummer. He changed the way most drummers played and performed but he wasn't the "force of nature" that Baker was and others became. You can list as many great drummers as you like. You're only disagreeing with my definition, not what Ginger Baker was or the influence he had on rock drummers. Before Baker there weren't any "rock" drummers. After Ginger Baker . . . . . you can't count them.
That's a fair point. I can imagine the impact he had drummers at the time - it must have looked like he'd dropped in from Mars. But it doesn't make him any good (in my opinion). He's always going on about he well he swings... I haven't heard it yet. I'd like to have heard Buddy Rich adapt to playing with Cream. That would have been worth seeing.
 8.
In his prime Baker was a great drummer. The trouble is he hasn't been in a band that could use his skills since Cream split and that's a very long time to be fed up, frustrated and broke! Add a lack of social skills and this is what you get. Cream totally changed what was possible with 3 musicians and, along with Jeff Beck opened the door to what would become Rock. Ginger Baker forged a new path in rock drumming. Don't look at him now look at him back then and judge his playing against the drummers that were "tip tapping" their way politely around their kits. He blew most of them into the weeds.
Ringo didn't tip-tap politely around his kit...
 9. I A/B's one of these alongside my beloved Walkabout for quite a while, and I found it really hard to choose between them The Aggie has more headroom, too. Great heads.
 10. Dreadful man, dreadful drummer (IMO), great film.
 11.
No, at least that wasn't my intention. But we have always had a way of discovering new music. At the turn of the 20th century it was pianists popularising songs that pushed the sales of sheet music, in fact there were charts as such way back then, just reflecting sales of music, not recordings. Then we got the dance bands playing the hotels and dance halls, eventually moving on to radio. All of these things promoted the sale of music, and I just hope that streaming will eventually develop a model that will help artists develop a fan base who will support them, just as other techniques have done in the past.
Absolutely. But the wandering troubadour got money for his sheet music. Dance bands got paid to play (usually popular covers). Getting heard is one thing.. getting paid for it is a different kettle'o'fish.
 12.
I don't know if we're trying to put too much value on streaming, should it not be viewed as a new way of discovering artists that you then go on to support financially via gigs, merchandise, or, at arms length, by giving them the popularity so they can sell branding rights etc?
This sounds suspiciously like the age-old '...but you'll get great exposure!' justification when asked to do gigs for nothing.
 13.
There has to be something in it for the artists because otherwise they would not bother being on there.
Because it's 'the done thing'. But it appears opinions are changing.
 14. Dad3353 - I don't understand your argument. Generally speaking, while a musician is recording, they're investing money, and probably not getting paid during the process. The reason being is that they're making an investment in that recording, which will hopefully generate some income. That's not an unreasonable concept.
 15. Just lern 2 spell. Spell checquers r a CRUTCSH.
 16. As for the PJ.. I'm a P guy, but I've got a fair bit of work with a function band who do some tunes that cry out for bridge pickup burp. My Maruszczyk PJ has Haussel pickups which are specifically matched - I run it as a P most of the time, but the J comes in handy for those tunes. I rarely run the P & J pups wide open. It's just not my thing.
 17.
Spelling error - it's craic
It originated as 'crack' in Northern England and Scotland. The Irish borrowed it, and it became 'craic' in the 70s. It then made its way in Gaelic form back to the UK. It's still 'crack' around our way. Just sayin'.
 18.
Silly question time, but how would the goings on in Calais be holding up the parcels that are in Koln ?
Presumably they're being held at the depot 'cos there's no point in them going further...
 19. They've just uploaded a vid of a shortscale Elwood...
 20.
Yes - I wouldn't have bought the Air myself, but it's very nice nonetheless... Boots up more or less instantly (solid state HD) and does everything very fast and easily while also being very small and light. And the Dell was like that straight from the box. I fiddled about a bit trying to work out if there was anything actually wrong with it (as did the IT guy at work) but didn't really get anywhere. It's entirely possible that there is some reason for the slowness beyond it just being a bit crap, but it has certainly put me off Dells.
Yup. I'm generally a PC person, but I picket up a fairly new Macbook Air off Gumtree for a great price for Mrs. WoT and it's lovely. Such a tidy bit of kit. I went with my Dell XPS 'cos I can't abide the floppy plastic tat that most other PC laptops seem to consist of. It's solid and well-built, but.. it's just flaky. And that's a shame :-(
 21.
Dell UK outlet. Find yourself a nice ultrabook at half price.
I picked up an XPS 15 via this route a couple of months ago. It's a lovely laptop, but it has a few (apparently known) issues that are proving difficult to get resolved. As it stands, as much as I'd like to, I can't recommend 'em.
 22.
No lessons. . . . but search YouTube for Stax, Chess, Pye International and Checker records. They are all great songs and pretty easy to pick up.
Yep.. it's all there in the songs. Listen and learn.
 23. The deal isn't done until goods & money has changed hands. Always assume there's a chance it could go wrong at any point before then, and you'll never be disappointed.
 24. Here's a previous thread on 'em...
