1.
So we have got to the point of giving money out. Did someone say there was a cheaper way than just sending it through a bank? Shame the build time is 15 weeks - I have enough difficulty waiting for a shipment from thomman!
Transferwise - I don't think you'll find cheaper. I'll PM you a referral link which I think will give you a free transfer.
 2.
So having just been asked the pickup questions, of the delanos and Haeussels, which are the more agressive? I don't really want smooth old school. Just got the invoice for mine. That was a lot more than I intended spending, but you know, if you are going to get something you want, the last thing you want afterwards is 'oh if only I had got'.. Oh and Yay, Luminay!
Any reason you're avoiding the Maruszczyks? They're hot and aggressive...
 3. You're welcome to have a go / lend of either of mine. I'm just near Whitley Bay.
 4.
I have Haeussel's in my Jake and they're nice, but my latest build from Mensinger is going to have a Delano P pickup in, as I liked the midrange on that one more, as we are a one guitar band now opposed to two. (with a different name) But I've been using the Haeussel's for the last few months and they're pretty cool. Very warm, very oldschool and very Jamerson, but they have a decent output. They're pretty nice.
That mirrors my experience.
 5.
I know Adrian as 100% reliable. If you visit him in Aldenhoven in Germany, (what I recommend) you'll see, that it is a Family Business at least. The Basses are made in Poland by Mensinger Guitars. In Aldenhoven Adrian lives with his Wife and his Daughter in a Farm House, with round about 600 Basses and Guitars in Stock. He does all by himself. He has Customers there, who test Basses and buy them at his House (like I do),. Also he has an Recording Studio, is a Bass Teacher, is always in Contact with the Mensinger Company and the Customers who get in Contact via e-mail. As far as I know the whole Work is done by only a few (3-4) People. At least you also can give him a Call. He is not the Best in "speaking english", but his Daughter does well. kind Regards Tom
Ta for the insight. Interesting stuff.
 6.
I work for an ISP and run hundreds of email accounts, POP3, Exchange and now O365, so I know how this works. I'd sent it from the same account as the first time this happened, because that time when he finally got back to me it was because he'd been busy, not a spam issue. He may well be busy, but as a business he's clearly not 'extremely good with emails' if he's missing out on work because of his email system. I'll try again.
He's just an extremely busy guy, who probably receives squillions of emails. I miss emails sometimes too.
 7. No Ricks for sale on Basschat, please - see posting rules. Thank you.
 8.
Maruszczyk basses do indeed look like tremendous value for money and no doubt they are. From experience though, if your heart is set on a particular bass - be it Fender, Sadowsky, Dingwall, whatever - however sensible and pragmatic a substitute might be, you are never truly satisfied.
My experience is exactly the opposite
 9.
People forget just how massively labour costs figure into the price of workshop instrument vs mass-produced factory instruments. Had a long chat with Sheldon Dingwall and confirmed with him that while most people think his basses are expensive (and they're not cheap), he pays his workers a fair wage in a country where the cost of living is very high. Godins are also from Canada, but they are the largest manufacturer in the country with huge economies of scale.
Which is precisely why we need to enjoy the stupidly good value of Maruszczyk while it lasts...
 10.
Out of curiosity, how did you measure it? I went online and sourced the specs for one of my Fender's but it doesn't feel quite right, a little less chunky that I wanted, but still pretty nice and very, very close.
Nut width, and front-to-back depth at a couple of points along the neck...
 11. Yep, both of my Jakes have custom specc'd neck dimensions.
 12. Jackson 5
 13. I think Gerry and the Pacemakers had an album out last year, too. (I know. What I mean is that he's not new any more, so there's less excitement about him.)
 14. There was quite a few threads about him back in the day. Possibly a bit old hat now.
 15. Yep, it seems to have pretty limited application. It might be handy for any Mesa Walkabout owners out there, though!
 16.
Cheers - well, I think I will go for that then, if it is just the upside of less weight, as long as it doesn't cause a neck dive (this is a 5 string 24 fret) then I can't see a reason not to
No dive whatsoever on my 4's - presumably 5s are a bit trickier...
 17.
Interesting. Is the argument that it only makes a difference if they have a sound hole? Certainly a Dingwall ABII sounds pretty different from a Dingwall ABI, although they do have different woods too.
I'm not sure how the Dingwalls are chambered, but I think my Jakes have a few areas drilled out, rather than a sound chamber.
 18.
Does chambering for weight have any significant impact on the sound does anyone know? I thought I could ask for it as I really can't be bothered with heavy basses but I am not that bothered if there is an impact
I asked Adrian the same question back in the day. He says there's no difference, as does Roger Sadowsky... I agree with them both. Both of mine are chambered and they're awesome.
 19. I also looked at the Lakin stuff back in the days, but IMO it was overpriced and there weren't enough options. And then there was the headstock...
 20. FWIW, you'll not find me knocking Lakland. I've got a lot of respect for them.
 21.
It would be very interesting to know if this is a pre or post Brexit price. I suspect that post Brexit we will all be left with a sour taste in our mouths when it comes to the price of US-made instruments.
FWIW, I investigated getting a US Lakland just over a year ago. They were extremely expensive then, and that was for a stock item. The mind boggles what the cost would be for a custom.
 22.
The ground unicorn horn is reserved for the Deluxe US models, I think. My point is that just because a bass may externally appear similar, it doesn't necessarily make it a comparable level of quality. Otherwise why not save yourself some money on your Maruszczyk and go for one of these: http://www.argos.co....|dvc:c|adp:1o29 inexpensive, bright colour, ticks all the boxes.
Is that a rebadged US Lakland?
 23. Just email him via the website: www.public-peace.de
 24.
As for the Maruszczyk, I have no idea how it would measure up
Very well, I imagine, unless US Laklands are sprinkled with ground unicorn horn or something.
