  1. Horrible control knob layout. Who picked out the ridiculous name, though? Sounds like something a new mom might say to her toddler. Nice headstock but totally ho-hum otherwise.
  2. So glad I'm not a Sire fanatic. I'd never be able to deal with such chicanery! Seriously, though, is this truly an issue of concern for Sire lovers?
  3. Nice! I haven't seen too many new Fenders with a fretboard like mine.🤔
  4. Yes, I've played quite a few MIM Player series basses since their inception and I really wanted to like them...they're nice $500 basses, but for $799 and up, not nice enough for me. Other than that, I own ten basses and every single one was purchased online...sure, a bit of a gamble but... (Of course, trying before buying is the best way to go for most people...hey, I've played a new Musicman or two with this or that problem.)
  5. Sure, and the Squier '50s CV Precision basses are very nice...I wish they'd come out with a FSR model, though. Right color and I'd pay $100 more than they're selling for now. Other than that, people spend more money on Fender MIMs, and I wouldn't buy one at a 50% off sale. I went a little bit crazy the past year or so buying basses...stimulating the economy. I paid a lot for my CV Jazz, but I also bought an untouched $2,000 G&L Custom L2000 for $1,400, so..
  6. Piezo in mine with maybe the best acoustic preamp made, so I'd have to suggest that route. Mine is fretted, though. https://youtu.be/Nsf2ydAbHxI
  7. Good question. Maybe they were built better, maybe the necks, pickups, bridge and everything about them were better, maybe that's why they stopped making them, as others have suggested, but I've tried quite a few new ones this year, many more the past three or four years...twenty or more...and not one was as good as my old CV or my new one...not even close.
  8. I'm not sure if you're talking about the Inca Silver or LPB one, but do you still own it? Other than that, I don't know why some people are talking about basses as investments, that's something else entirely. As for the new CV Jazz basses or any of the recent used Indonesian ones, sure, they're out there and people are buying them, but the Chinese ones are superior...that's why they sell for more...easy enough to understand. (I'm talking about the limited edition Inca Silver and Lake Placid Blue ones, that is, but the Chinese Squier CV '50s Precision in LPB is in the same category and they sell for more than the new ones, too...$500 and up.)
  9. If it plays and sounds half as nice as mine it's a real bargain...hard to tell what condition it's in, it's listed as excellent with light wear, but I bought mine online trusting the seller and the gamble paid off. Regardless, people are spending more money on new CVs and the Chinese ones are much better. Someone's going to get lucky...would make the perfect Christmas present.
  10. Italia Imola Italia Guitars is a musical instruments manufacturer company that produces retro-styled electric guitars and basses. The company was founded in 1998 with a line of guitars designed in England by luthier Trevor Wilkinson and manufactured in South Korea.
  11. I bought this for $425...mint, better than new because new they go for $900. As far as I know this is the only one with this finish. Yes, it plays and sounds even better than it looks.
  12. Good, better than telling someone they'll get their bass in February and then making them wait until August. Plenty of other companies have been doing just that.
  13. You seem to have almost all the basses covered!
  14. I think it's going to be hard to return this one!
  15. I'd be satisfied with any of these.
  16. The thing is Fender knows they're going to sell basses like this...they don't care who buys it, a player or someone who just sits there staring at it rubbing his hands together like Ebenezer Scrooge. If I want something special, I'm sure not going to buy a generic black Jazz bass with a white pickguard, I'm going to buy something truly distinctive.
  17. Never played one, probably never will, but if the Japanese Squiers are as good as some Fenders, I believe it, because my CV is better than any Fender MIM I've ever played, including the new Fender Player Plus basses...even though I've only played three. Of course, my Squier has D'Addario black tapewounds on it, so that definitely enters into it. Seriously, if I saw this James Johnston Jazz bass hanging up at Guitar Center, Sam Ash or any other shop in my area, and the price was $599, I'd buy it...if it played and sounded as good as mine. Something else to consider...is every Chinese CV Jazz the same, or are there exceptional models? I definitely believe the latter. As for price, I'd like to see what they sell for five or ten years from now, specifically the Inca Silver and Lake Placid Blue models.
  18. I've never bought a bass as an investment. Really don't care about making money selling a used one. If the listed price was $500, I'd consider it...after the holidays.
  19. Not too many three-pickup basses around. I liked this when it first came out, not enough to buy, but..
  20. I was a flatwound fan until I tried tapewounds...ten basses, black tapewounds on eight of them. I'm big on GHS. Nothing wrong with flats, I used nothing but until a few years ago, and I sometimes doubt if I would have progressed as a bassist using roundwounds. Good luck, and your fingers will thank you.
  21. When I bought my Inca Silver Classic Vibe Jazz bass for $500, quite a few people questioned my...prudence. After seeing this James Johnston CV for $699, and that's after a $100 markdown, I feel somewhat vindicated.
  22. Someone actually bought it a few hours ago! Trying to check with Geddy. He pretended like he didn't want to buy it, but three phone calls and a dozen texts and he just won't respond!
