  1. Only signature bass I've ever considered was the LPB Squier James Johnston Jazz, and only because it was a Classic Vibe with a matching headstock. Would've preferred it without the signature, though. Looked for quite a few years without luck. When they do pop up, they're selling for $200 more than they did when they were new...even the less than perfect ones. Fortunately, I found this instead, so I won't have to worry about an unnecessary signature on the headstock. (Same bass, different color.)
  2. Nash is a big favorite, but their prices aren't for the faint of heart. There's a company called Vintage that makes some reasonably priced relics...I see several for $599 right now. Jazzmanbass on Ebay will relic a bass for $299 and sells the ones he makes for under $1,000...good-looking stuff I've considered in the past. For me, however, I'd go with EastGlove for $1,000 or so. I almost bought one last year but I went with a very nice Bacchus Woodline, instead...rare to see them for sale in the US. Some people might say EastGlove relics are a bit extreme, but I think they're works of art.
  3. Are you a left-handed bassist? Did you just find your dream bass but it's a right-handed bass? Due to the scarcity of "special" left-handed basses, are you considering settling for one regardless of logistics?
  4. Musicvox MI-6 Not what you'd call a typical pointy bass but of all the unusual shaped basses out there, the only one I could see myself playing.
  5. Good job. The white pearl pickguard looks great...so much nicer than countless other Buttercream Player P basses with the plain white ones. Makes it really stand out! I thought about buying one and doing the same and swapping out the chrome hardware for black, but it wasn't meant to be.
  6. Yes, that sounds right...single-coil MFDs like the ones in the SB-2s?
  7. This is a custom, but they're supposed to start making these soon.
  8. My Thundergun is 7.9 lbs...Korina. Only thing heavy is the tone. I'm guessing the one you tried was a Rumblefish...light and resonant due to its hollow design and phenolic composition, much like a Danelectro. Today's Reverends are far more substantial, as solidly constructed as any quality bass.
  9. You might want to think outside the box. One of only two PJs I'd spend my hard-earned money on...and nether have active electronics yet are as potent as any bass that does. Reverend Decision P-BLADE Captures the classic P-bass character, but with increased volume, sustain, clarity, and extended low end response. 42 gauge wire, ceramic magnet, 12K ohms JAZZ BOMB BRIDGE Warm mids and a focused attack, enhanced output, and still percussive when you dig in. Hum-free. 43 gauge wire, ceramic magnet, 14K ohms.
  10. I didn't like the Katana bass in the '80s, but they look a little better without the oddly shaped pickguard.
  11. I think I've recommended this one a dozen times this year.
  12. The one on the left is debatable. The one on the right...not only ugly but it doesn't seem to serve much of a purpose.
  13. I just spent $500 on a five-year-old Squier and I wouldn't trade it for any new MIM. To be fair, I'll be trying out both the Precision and the Jazz tomorrow, but I doubt either one will measure up. I'm not saying they're bad basses, but I seriously doubt they're good thousand-dollar basses. Only plus about these Players are some of the finishes.
  14. You might want to consider this one...made me forget all about PJ'S and Thunderbirds. 7.9 ounces...the only thing heavy is the tone. https://youtu.be/TG43QMU5Q5o
  15. A couple of nice finishes but that's about it. Silver Smoke only available on the P bass, Tequila Sunrise only available on the 5-string Jazz...another brilliant move! Oh, yeah, nice to see a significant jump in price, too...but that's okay, they have several $1,000 plus MIMs, and people have been buying them. Me? Hell, I'll just wait until next year when they come out with the Player Plus Profesional Performer...maybe they'll actually have a friggn' tone control.
  16. I wouldn't dream of removing the pickguard or changing the pickup on this one. Missed out on buying one four or five years ago and I've regretted it ever since. Big mistake on their part discontinuing the color. Now, used ones are going g for more money than the new ones...and they're worth it.
  17. 2015 Classic Vibe. Even with the black tapewounds, it still has that unmistakable Jazz growl. I'm very impressed. Two hundred dollars more than when they first came out, but worth every penny.
  18. Not sure, but I'm guessing this one sat in the store for six years...maybe lost in the attic or a back room...because it's essentially a new bass. Protective film is still on the pickguard and the control plate. I doubt anyone's even touched the strings...they felt and sounded new. Had to change them, though. Five of my basses have GHL black tapewounds, but I had a set of D'Addarios lying around collecting dust, so I went with them.
  19. Nice to see Fender introduce a new color that's actually new!
