  1. Then it will be interesting to see the results if you do decide to strip the headstock. I prefer both as they are with tje blck headstocks, though. I have to wonder, however, why Fender didn't go with roasted maple for the P bass.
  2. It's not just you, but that bass looks great as it is! A finished headstock looks great on my Squier...wouldn't have bought it otherwise. Regardless, Gibson and Reverend both use black headstocks and they look much better than those unfinished ones. Unfinished headstocks have ruined enough basses, in my opinion...not talking about maple, of course. Only one thing though...if you remove the paint, even doing an expert job, and then find the right Squier headstock decal, will the stripped headstock match the roasted maple fretboard or will it be much paler, ie, not roasted?
  3. You're right, in no way do they lag behind the Player Series basses. I've tried a few dozen Player basses and not one moved me enough to reach into my pocket and pull out my wallet...I wouldn't even buy a new one if they were $500. Both my Squiers put them to shame as do most of the 40th Anniversary Squier basses...easily 5 or 6 I could see myself playing, both the passive and active ones. The truth is, the Player basses are unexciting, the very definition of meh.
  4. Good luck! Hopefully you can start playing bass instead of playing games with the store.🤔
  5. With that nice maple neck, you might want to go with GHS or D'Addario black tapewounds.
  6. It's a simple observation, but I guess only certain opinions count, right? Other than that, it's certainly no different than a piccolo bass, so... (Edited, my initial post if that helps.)
  7. Yes or no, it doesn't change what I said. Sure, he knows how to play, but so does Miss Gertie.
  8. Even the Two-Color Sunburst looks better than the typical Fender bursts....bolder.
  9. Sorry, doesn't sound like a bass. Not even close. Jolly good guy, though.
  10. Flea playing the Jazz bass!
  11. Or a Starcaster headstock.
  12. I still have my doubts, but I do like the shape...definitely different. As for active, I have to agree. Why, Fender, why? Some people are saying these are the same pickups they used for the American Deluxe Dimension basses, even though they don't quite look the same, but I haven't heard anything about the Meteoras being 18 volt. Regardless, the Dimensions weren't exactly successful, so if these basses do come out, will they sell and stick around or will they disappear soon? Are they going to be limited edition basses? Other than that, is Fender actually hoping bassists will buy them because they like the way they look? That didn't work with the Meteora guitars. I wont be buying one, maybe I would if they were passive, but probably not, because I'm more than happy with this slightly different look. Reverend Thundergun...passive, pure and powerful...and I'm betting the Meteoras simply won't sound as good.
  13. Actually, my '60s CV Jazz is noticeably better than a Player series Jazz. I have to imagine the P basses are good, too.
  14. Just a few that are mine for life.
  15. Dean Exotica acoustic bass, one the older models with the Aphex System electronics, Aural Exciter and Big-Bottom Sound...no other acoustic bass made has the Aphex System. Don't buy into that "You can't really hear an acoustic bass without and amp" bs, because you can't hear a Stingray without and amp, either. You see, I believe in the MTV Unplugged school of thought...plug in!
  16. Any music stores in your area with this one? If so, drop in and try one out. Mine is 7.9 lbs, Korina...they're all in that weight zone. Reverend Thundergun. I actually had a deposit on a Thunderbird a few years ago. When I went back to pay off the balance, the staff was very busy so I took a look at what they had hanging up and saw one of these. Picked it up, plugged it in, and five minutes later, I knew I was going home with this instead.
  17. Mine wasn't even close to heavy...8.5 lbs.
  18. That would be the preamp in my Dean Exotica acoustic bass. To the best of my knowledge, the only acoustic bass with the Aphex System electronics.
  19. I actually like the way this one looks...Fender apparently will sell you a nice bass for more money, but I'm still not sure about active Fenders and whichever generation noiseless J pickup they're using these day...and I don't want a 5-string bass.
  20. As for MIM Fenders and Sires, I still haven't found a Sire I liked enough to spend money on. (I've yet to play any of the $800 to $1,000 ones, though.) And the MIM Fenders? Would that be the $850 Ho-Hum series?
  21. Absolutely no need waiting for a new one because this arrived today. Midnight Satin, black chrome hardware, high-mass bridge, roasted maple...smooth as silk. Unlike the new ones, this is ash. Just waiting for some GHS black tapewounds to take it to the next level.
  22. It's Indian Laurel, same fretboard they're using on some Strats.
  23. If the Ruby Red Metallic P bass had a matching headstock, I'd jump on it! Hell, even if it had a black headstock like some of the others.
  24. Contemporary active basses.
