1.
Dunno if my Jap P is an E series? (serial E956566 which according to the guitar dater wotsit was made at fujigen between 84 & 87). Not sure about the PB thing but mine has PB-557 stamped on the neck and body?
Yes that's an E series. As I stated above mine was a great player, but not very well put together. I had a E series strat (which was actually Squier branded, but at this time I don't think there was any difference) which was wonderful. In this context the 557 refers to 1957, so it's a '57 style neck and body. Mine had a '62 body and 57 neck. Apparently this was common ( I asked here at the time!). I'm not entirely sure if the PB38 - PB115 price range difference was utilised back in the 80's? I think back there was just your standard choice, with like I said even Fender and Squier badged instruments coming through at the same quality level, only difference being the logo.
2. Ha! I see it- Diana bank note. Awesome.
3. Sounds like he's been stung by eBay/PayPal in the past and their blind loyalty to protect the buyer. I have fallen foul of it, as have many others.
4. I'm in a similar situation- getting married in May, and definitely do not want to play my own wedding! Trouble is, I don't want anything toooo slick, as in complete function band material, but I want a band that will get people interested and dancing. In response to the OP, I can recommend Company B from Cornwall- Rock n Roll with a WW2 twist! Great band.
5. I need to find a way to own this! What can I sell....
6. I've had an E series- was good in a way- had a great feel to it, but was quite poorly put together actually. Big neck pocket gap, basswood body, pickups sounded good but very low output, cheap wiring. Neck felt good but slight chunky. Had an issue with the fretwork. A CIJ reissue I played from 1998 (I think) was much much better.
7.
Is your cab so precious/rare that it needs to be retired... if it is a cab you are used to and like the tone then why change? You will be able to find quite a few cheaper, lighter cabs but the tone 'will' be noticeably different to what you are used to; in particular the variation in tone if going to Neo loaded cabs!
Yeah, I have noticed an airier, hollower, and sometimes boomier tone when using very lightweight neo driven cabs. I thought it was just in my head. My TC RS212 has been a decent compromise for weight and is a great sounding cab.
8.
Okay, I just caught on... does that model name indicate it's a P-bass with a Jazz-width neck?
No. It's how much they sold for. Someone will provide exact figures I'm sure, but I think the Japanese had a range of fender basses and guitars at different price points. PB-38 would have been the low end of the scale, I think it went up to PB-115 or -117 or something like that. Same for jazz basses and strats, etc, and referred to the retail price in Yen.
9. Rollin' and Tumblin' Smokestack lightening Stop Breakin' down Statesboro Blues Some of my faves!
10. No pics no bass (x2)
11. Perfect back-up bass. Let me have first dibs if you do decide to post. Thanks
12. Wow, stunning. What a great find. This is gonna sound weird, but I can almost smell it.
13. Owww! Get down B&Q and buy a few G clamps and a workbench pronto! How the hell does that happen? Did the guy have it tuned CFDG or something?
14.
Listen to your heart! Cameltoe!
Never had the pleasure of trying one! I have used my OTB for about 4 years now and it's everything I want, buuuut.... Something about the streamliners just feels right when I see them. Valvey vintage punch?
15. Still very tempted even though I can't really afford it- what's the weight? Cheers
16. I love oly white when it goes yellow!
17. Sooooo tempted- happy with my OTB, but these have always caught my eye
18.
Just about to make the same post, Clarky! I owned said bass from new and played it for thirty-five years until I sold it two years ago. It's absolutely 100% stock and original and has had the pickguard off just once - to replace perished pickup foam.
Why did you sell it in the first place?? I wish I had a bass that meant as much. My from-new Roadworn almost gets there, but for some reason it feels fake.... (cos it didn't get that wear from me!)
19. I have a JV4 P bass, 14 days younger than this... Wonderful instrument.
20.
Most decent powered subs will have an lp filter built in and a full range through to send to tops. Some tops will have an hp filter which then negates the need for a separate crossover.
This. We run active JBL 18's with an inbuilt filter which negates the need for an external crossover. Sounds good enough. I'm sure with a decent crossover we could get a bit better results, but it's just another bit of gear to lug around then, and no-one listens anyway.
21. You also need to ensure the strap side, the cup if you like, is pointing upward. I have had them slip when the 'cup' is pointing at the ground, as there is nothing to hold them together bar the lug. Don't use them at all anymore.
22.
Ok, dumb question.... How do I prevent the bass signal getting through to the mains? We have a Yamaha PA with a main stereo line out and a separate sub out (which actually gets the full signal so would need an external crossover to feed a pair of subs). Which is fine - but how do I stop the bass going to the mains? Another crossover?
Not sure exactly what you mean here. You would normally just take the main LR stereo out into the crossover, which would then spilt between High freq LR and low freq LR. Low going to the subs obviously, and the exact crossover frequency can usually be adjusted to optimum performance for your cabinets. The Sub out on a desk usually refers to sub mix and doesn't need to be used in live applications. Hopefully this is what you mean and clears it up?
23.
£350 Start now
....or I'll buy a S/H USA SUB with the same money. People love chancing their arm, don't they?? Saw one of these in the local paper not long ago with a Fender Rumble amp- £80.
