1.
Yeah that they missed it big time! lol. You know reading some comments you would think that many really don't care about having more choice. Im not trying to change the world here im just asking for a few more cool toys for us bass players. Here is an example the vox night train combo recently sold for 199 this was on special offer but as an example i will used it. Who would not want a bass version of something like this?. Its so cool. Ok to get it at a price point i suggested a big company like thomann could do them. But whoever did them they would sell.
I would totally buy that in bass form. But it would be over £500, so i wouldn't. I've got a Peavey 5w all-valve guitar combo. It's fantastic. Upgraded the driver which improved things further, and could fiddle with the single valve if I wanted. It sounds great, could almost cut it at a rehearsal in our five-piece if the drummer was quiet. Cost me £40 second hand. Our guitarist has regularly used a 5w all valve Fender Champ combo to rehearse with our band, with a fairly loud drummer. I think he only paid £80 or so. He now uses a 15w Laney combo, which he also takes to our smaller gigs. Great sound. Paid about £100 for it. I had been thinking about this recently, as I was thinking of buying a small valve head to go with my 1x10 eden cab for home practice. The CTM15 is kinda the only thing I can see, but it's way too much.
2. Some of my favorites; Junior Kimbrough Skip James Blind Willie McTell Son House Depends if your after rootsy blues, or club blues. Never been blown away by Robert Johnson, but always a good place to start and understand the genre.

Up for grabs, great pedal from Pigtronix. Works really well with bass! Only selling as I no longer need all the features so it doesn't really get used. Official blurb: Pigtronix Disnortion sports parallel Fuzz and Overdrive circuits, allowing you to pile on the gain without sacrificing clarity, dynamic response, punch or low end. It’s like double tracking your guitar inside the pedal! The Pigtronix Disnortion features three elements: a touch sensitive Overdrive, Fuzz with 6 different filters, and a frequency doubler named Octava. Each effect is an original analog design and can each be used independently or in combinations to forge a tremendous range of musically responsive distortion sounds. Overdrive – The Pigtronix Overdrive responds to the dynamics of your playing using a unique, 6-stage gain architecture that retains the natural tone of your instrument, adding tube style breakup as you play louder. This circuit is so touch sensitive, you must play it to believe it! From Clean or Gritty Boost right up through Plexi roar, the Pigtronix Overdrive is the definitive musical overdrive. Fuzz – Massive Gain, Full Bodied Sustain and Flexible Tone Shapes define our fuzz effect. Pigtronix’s unique diode-clipping architecture provides plenty of compression and controllable feedback while preserving the dynamics of your playing style. The rotary tone control switch provides 6 musical EQ curves. Octava – This frequency doubler effect makes the notes you play sound one octave up. A Filter control allows you to achieve singing octave up tones without adjusting your guitar’s tone control. Stable intervals such as 4ths and power chords result in knarly, tweezed out grind, while other intervals create ring- modulator textures in all registers. The Octava is wired in series before the Overdrive and Fuzz, allowing the pedal to produce uniquely devastating & gnarly tones. I had valued this pedal a bit higher, but have seen something I want for sale, so have put this up for a bargain £50+p&p Comes with 12v PSU but no box.
4. I think I would try and tap up John at Bravewood before Fender CS. That would be my preference.
5. Definitely Sex on Fire for most played modern classic.
6. That looks like a Squier Affinity.
7.
Tuner corrosion typical IMO. String tree and strap buttons matching. Lo-res pics could hide faint grain on body. Cutaway has router hump, lip shape is perfect. Shiny neck plate... not impossible, I could snap mine to look the same, and the font is spot on. Guard looks 83-ish. I don't see anything really wrong, Schaller and pickup aside.
I've never seen Chrome tuners corrode the same as nickel?
8. I'm ready to buy if they list it again. Welcome to Black Friday! 50% off!!! (1 item only)
9. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151474971671 Why do I think it's suspicious? Wonky neck plate Completely unmarked neck plate- no scratches whatsoever (mine has quite a few!) Corroded/matte tuners (they look the same as the tuners on my road worn. My JV tuners are still shiny as a shiny thing) No grain at all on the body, although it could be a basswood body No feedback at all, and foreign seller selling on UK eBay. Pretty poor 3-tone burst 'No parts changed'- errr, the bridge? the pickup? Looks like it could be a JV neck with random hardware and body- what do you guys think? Like I said, suspicious!
10. All I can offer, is my US reissue anodised guard fit on my '57 JV perfectly.
11. I've recently realised with my unversatile set up of Orange OTB and P bass, I've been stuck with pretty much whatever sound the room I'm playing in gives me. I've been using my old Hartke Bass Attack at gigs really, which gives me slightly more options, but always gives me a 'scooped' sound which I don't really want. The tube emulation (harmonics) just seems to create more finger and fret noise (which I spend most of my time trying to dampen!) rather than any useful warmth or grit. Soooo, what are the best options for an all in one? I'd ideally like to be able to DI from it, as my OTB is one of the older models and runs very hot, but the essentials are to give me more EQ options over my limited OTB, and a decent bit of grit when I need it that isn't wild and noisy, but preferably warm and vintage. I've seen the MXR M80, DHA V1, and Sansamp bass driver, but I've no idea which is best or why. Am I missing anything else? Cheers
12. Balls. I have a used one and I was going to list it for sale in the next couple of weeks for £40! Damn Thomann!
13.
Hi cameltoe, yes mine's the big Fender logo JV. Agree with all you say about both and I'm loathe to part with either but also have a RW Jazz and now my 5-string Yamaha coming back to a small flat... The main difference is neck profile, my JV has a very slim neck front to back which suits me as a long term J player. That said, I find the RW P easy to get around unlike the Classic 50's P which feels like a real handful to me and rather sticky. Think it must be the RW neck finish which everyone always raves about. BTW, I think finish on the RW is excellent - the neck pocket is snug as you like which I've tried to show in the photos.
I went in the shop to buy a Classic 50 and came out with the RW. I had assumed they would be the same aside from paying extra for Fender to relic it... Couldn't have been more wrong! I have considered buying a second in sunburst-can't justify it at present otherwise I would consider this. GLWTS
14. I have an '83 JV and a Roadworn and they are equally as fantastic. My Roadworn just edges it for me though- lighter, and more comfortable because of the nitro finish, although the JV sounds a bit more grindy and is slightly better crafted. Both great instruments, couldn't ever sell either. I can get the action on my RW crazy-low with no buzzing and it just resonates like nothing else I've ever played. I love it. Is your '82 a Fender branded (1st issue) one?
15. Damn. If only it was a 4 string. And a P bass. And I had £850. Beautiful looking piece of wood. GLWTS.
16. I can empathise. I have had this with amps and basses. I had a lovely USA G&L L2K which was a joy, but I had the same issue. Just twiddled and twiddled and twiddled, trying to find a 'sound'. They all sounded good, but not quite what I wanted. What I wanted was a P bass with the tone backed off a touch. So I got another one. Amp wise I now run an Orange Bass Terror. P Bass + Bass Terror is the ultimate plug in, sound good combination for me.
17. Price drop £40 delivered
18. I agree with a lot of what he has said from a listeners point of view, and from a local musician point of view. I presume he is correct (generally speaking) that it is greed driving the backlash against the download era from the record industry. I use a lot of apple products- but I don't use iTunes. I've found it very frustrating and time consuming, and completely at odds with the idea of digital music. If I buy a CD I can listen to it in any CD player. That hasn't been the case when downloading a song from iTunes. Plus is it just me, or is it really expensive? The closest thing I have come to serving my needs is spotify premium. It's not perfect, but it allows me to listen to decent quality digital music, doesn't clog up my hard drive with downloaded tracks (and make me consider going for a lower-quality bit rate so I can store more), I can listen on my phone/iPad/Laptop, I can log in anywhere on any computer..... it's on the right track. I'd be interested on other people's thoughts.
19. I would have to ask if it was really intentional, or just saved from a fire.
20. All of that lovely tone sucked away by the Behringer pedal!
21.
Someone was selling some powered Mackie 450s on here. A pair of those with a mixing desk are ideal for small venues. Much easier than lugging a power amp around!
+1 Can be a bit harsh sounding, but light, powerful, easy to use. Can put a bit of kick through them if needed, but work well with an active sub. Plenty available second hand. Small mixer such as a Soundcraft efx8 and you're done!

Boss CE3 Chorus pedal for sale/trade. Good condition, few marks but nothing serious. Works fine. Black label MIJ model. Whatever that means! I'm sure Boss fans will know. No longer needed, will trade for vintage sounding Overdrive/Fuzz pedal, or decent Precision bass pickup- SPB-3, Fender Original, anything considered as long as a similar value. Could chuck in a bit of extra cash for the right thing. Prefer trade, otherwise £45 delivered. Can email pics on request! Ta
24. Nice bit of grain there!
