1.
Surely the easiest solution would be to include a *will sell to quickest payer* in a 'for sale' thread if you're picky about buyers taking too long to organise payment. That way, you know that the seller will sell to the first person that organises themselves and pays up quickest.
I've seen similar rules implied in for sale posts before, 'first one with the cash' etc. Don't know how literally that's been meant.
2.
I have to say in my own defence that the guy hadn't given me a 100% yes as to buying it,no one seems to have read that part. I would happily wait a day or two for payment but I would expect a confirmation of buying pretty quick especially when I have other buyers waiting, this is what I didn't get,my post isn't about payment. I didn't really explain this very well in my post, sorry,I have now edited it. ta
Evidently not! If he didn't give you a solid guarantee to buy it, and you hadn't confirmed that you would hold it for him, then it's a non issue. First come first served!
3. Well, I'd argue that 3.5 hours isn't even holding something. If it was the OP actually agreed to put the item 'on hold pending payment', as we see so often on BC, then selling to another party after 3.5hrs is pretty poor. If the buyer still hadn't paid up after 24 hours I'd at least send a message to let him know I had other people interested, and did he still want the item. But yes, it could have been solved by some simple communication.
4. I've had people on here get funny with me for not replying to PM's straight away. Sometimes, amidst the absolute carnage that is my job, I may get the chance to take 30 seconds to see if a BC'er has replied to the message I sent at 7am before work, but I will often unlikely have the time to fire back a response. If it's a payment for something, well that would mean waiting til I can get home to log in to my online banking, which would have to wait until after I've picked up the kid, fed her, put her to bed, walked the dog, cooked dinner, ate dinner, at least attempted to make the house a bit tidier, before I finally get around to sorting it out at roughly 9pm. 3.5 hours wouldn't work for me.
5. Whiskey in the jar. Agree that Summer of 69 should be everybody's red line.
6.
Give it ten years!
I dunno, I've been waiting 20 years to see the music of my youth (i.e Grunge) covered in pubs. Hasn't happened yet.* (*I'm sure it has, somewhere, but not on any kind of scale)
7. He must use the lightest gauge strings ever. Good drummer.
8. Hi All, Bought these a few months ago from basschatter Orangepeelneil- have copied his for sale pics so I hope he doesn't mind. Great pickups, really grindy with deep lows and cut through amazingly well. Similar to SD 1/4lb's, even down to the oversized pole pieces, however much better tone than SD 1/4lb's I've tried in the past. Made in Germany and 15k ohm output. Just not the sound I am used to- I have realised I am after that vintage, woody thump from a P Bass, and I now have a decent OD pedal to help give me the grind I need. Am really hoping for a trade for another set of P bass pickups that are more vintage sounding, but will sell straight if I get no offers. “The perfect pick-up for the bassist looking for increased output and sustain. Its specially designed 6mm Alnico magnets deliver that extra punch and power to cut through high volume rock”
9. Cool! What's the origin of the neck/body? Nut width/neck profile?
10.
Had an '83 JV exactly like this and I assure you it was just incredible. This one is in much nicer condition than my old one. Someone should snap this up.
Got a '83 JV P. Echo those comments. Great players bass and sounds fantastic.
11. Any idea what happened to the original neck?
12. Metallica
13. Other than the Smiths-sounding Loves not a Competition, which I love, it's all a bit pants. Oasis- never been a big fan, but they have entertained over the years. What is up with Noel, and why has nobody punched him yet?
14. If this is half as good as my JV '57 that's a bloody bargain right there. Believe the hype! These basses are fantastic! GLWTS
15. Cheers guys, liking the sound of the beta-need to check the bearfoot
16. Sounds good, will check it out. I've got serious vintage microtubes GAS at the moment too!
17. Hi all, Looking for a deep, fat sounding drive. The drive needs to be able to do subtle, and capable of dialling in just a little bit of dirt, but i need it to be deeply voiced and bassy. I currently run an EHX Black Russian or Danelectro Cool Cat fuzz (v1) to almost get the effect I'm after, both with hardly any gain and the tone rolled back for minimal break up. Oh and it needs to have a small footprint as space is premium! Any ideas? Thanks!
18. I'm digging the EHX bass soul food. Cuts through well, nice subtle layer of grit on top of your normal tone. For once I don't disappear when I hit the loud pedal.
19.
In what way? I don't know where it was manufactured, who owns that manufacturer & what their finishing process was - do you? If it's the use of the word "custom" you object to, then there are going to be a lot of targets for your ire beyond this one - including an entire Dutch brand from the 70s! And that would definitely beg the question - in what way is Squier's Vintage Modified range "modified"? What from? And by whom??? I demand we are told! J.
Touché! ☺️
20. I would love to learn how to level frets myself. Almost all of my basses go to my luthier once I get them to have the frets taken down a touch and levelled. Makes a bass so much more playable.
21.
Plenty of hyperbole but I wouldn't call it misleading in any way. Speaking as someone prone to verbose, overly-detailed and (some might say) florid sales descriptions, I'm inclined to think it's a better selling technique than simply saying: "Generic P bass copy. Black". And no - it's not mine... Jon.
So you don't think the part where they describe it as a hand-finished, custom instrument by a family owned guitar building company is misleading? Given it's come straight off a production line in China and is in no way 'custom'? I wouldn't call it misleading as much as I would outright b***s***! 😀 Obviously we at basschat are far too astute to fall for such sales ploys, I think the price is probably the most accurate description the seller could have made! Says it all.
22. Surely this is just another cheap Chinese P clone? They do a good job of making it sound comparable to Fender custom shop: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=271764822557
23. Now withdrawn, may show up on EBay. Thanks
24.
If you're OK with relic'ing, I'd say go with a 'Roadworn', if you can find a second-hand one even better. They have similarities with the Classic 50's, but a much nicer neck IMHO. Mine plays like a dream
This. A completely different beast to the Classic 50's in my opinion. My Roadworn is a keeper above a US standard I used to have, and a JV '57 I currently have (which is also great but not as special as the RW), and was chosen above 3 Classic 50's I tried. But I prefer a bass that feels played in and comfortable, so it might not appeal to you. I hear great things about Limelight, if you wanted to go custom you could almost get there for that money. Never tried one though but plenty of good reviews on here. Nate Mendel gets good reviews, the one I tried didn't blow me away, but unfortunately, you are going to have to try a few and see what you like!
