1. Didn't think a Wunkay would hand around this long! Market really is shocking at the mo, no? US fenders not shifting at £450....
2.
I love these. Absolutely stunning. You should keep it. Or someone should bite your arm off to get it. Good luck
There must be a prize to you Sir for best forum name!
3. Great, all under 9lbs then- that's good. They look great, just need to try one now.
4. I think limelights look fantastic, and I would personally choose one over a Nash- because they appear to be far better value for money. Some of the threads I have read on Nash basses have worried me considering the premium they charge. Plus I think the limelight gear looks far better! I feel a major attack of the GAS coming on…. so I have a couple questions: I understand that this was a custom build, but can you spec neck dimensions and radius? Or is it a case of maple or rosewood/ jazz or precision? Can you spec body woods? And how heavy do they come in? I'm thinking a P bass in Daphne blue over Oly white with maple board- OR a lightly relic'ed, limelighted version of this: Oh dear lord- the GAS is tooooo strong….
5.
I've had 2 guitar necks from Musikraft & cannot recommend them highly enough. Go for the heavy rolled edges, they're great! I've bought mine finished in sanding sealer to maintain their guarantee, & then applied the decal & nitro lacquer myself. That saves quite a bit & is not as difficult as you may think if you've not done it before. I've had success with both spray cans & guns. Great news that they've started doing bass necks again - I feel a build plan coming on!
Thanks! If they are as good as I hope, they could be a bargain. I wanted the heavy rolled edges- was going to spec that!
6. Hi, It looks like I may have to shortly invest in a replacement neck for a Precision, and was looking for advice on the best place to buy, accounting for a small (isn't it always) budget. The neck will be fitted to a '57 style P, so ideally I'd like it close to those specs, or the very least, maple one-piece with truss adjust at heel. I played a lovely Custom Shop '57 P once which had a 1.625" nut with a medium V profile- it felt fantastic! Would love a similar profile. So I'm torn between spending out for my 'perfect' neck, which would be close to the CS I played, or to compromise and go for something a bit cheaper. Currently Musikraft can supply the neck I want, with vintage-correct radius, coming in at around £180 + shipping and import tax. All Parts seem quite expensive in the UK, but on eBay US, you can pick up a V-profile P neck for around £100. It will have a much flatter radius however, and I will not be able to spec a rolled fingerboard. These seem like my two options, short of finding what I want second-hand, so am wondering if anyone can add any other useful suppliers? Also any comments on the quality of Allparts and Musikraft necks would be appreciated. Cheers
7. Never tried a BC bass but I hear good things, this looks to be a great BIN price considering the amp as well http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301280048910?
8. That is such a good price- if only it was maple neck with P-headstock I'd buy it just for that- (Looking to spend a similar amount just on a neck and Warmoth would do nicely)
9. Drum kit available to all bands. Nothing is as painful as having to drag one kit off to chuck another up, within 15mins, over and over and over. Actually, it's been more painful when I've played mini-festivals where every band has had to use their own PA because the organizers didn't think ahead and hire one. Those gigs make me want to punch myself in the face! Other than that, lots of low-end reinforcement if you can get it. I'd see if you can borrow some decent subs for the stage and a good one to go with the actives in the beer garden. You will really notice the lack of low-end outdoors.
10.
The tweak generally being 'can I have more me in my monitor?'. And usually just before the one bit in the song where I might actually be heard....which I invariably miss or screw up because I'm wondering how to make the relevant change (which is never 'more him' but always 'less everyone else').
Exactly this!!
11.
Is this a common thing? Bass players supplying the PA And doing the sound? I have exactly the same role in our band, the unspoken attitude being that I only play one note for very thousand that the guitarists play so I must have time on my hands to sort out their monitor mix, adjust the balance, make sure nothings peaking, etc, etc. oh, and change the lighting presets on cue as well. And I also get to spend a happy hour or so on a Sunday morning re-coiling all the leads that the singer just bundled into the (wrong) box.... And I thought it was just me.
Me too! It always amuses me when the band ask for a monitor tweak mid-song, like I can just stop playing and sort it for them.
12. What's with the logo? That's the worst replica logo I think I've seen.
13.
At 3.7kg this is going to be basswood, not fibre. I had a fibre E series Squier Jazz and it weighed around 4.5kg. Also had a basswood Silver Series Jazz and, yes, both sounded equally good and exactly like Jazz basses. I can't speak for this one but my Silver Series Jazz had a 40mm wide neck at the nut, so slightly wider than the usual Jazz bass. A very good size, I think.
From my research I got the impression they used the same neck profile on both the J and P's. The neck was an excellent shape- 40mm wide nut, as above, and a nice depth. Very easy to play. The pickups sounded very deep and thumpy, being ceramic. Body fitted neck well and was light- not much else to say about that for me, which may be why they tend to be good with either body wood. It's all about the neck and the sound.
14. My Jazz hid in my shed for over a year, only taken out for gigs and rehearsals, never saw the inside of my house.
15.

Wow! I will use the now Oxford-English-Dictionary-approved term Amazeballs.
16. Why did everyone feel the need to strip guitars and varnish them back in the '70's?
17. They should make an acoustic bass with some kind of lightweight amp/neo driver built into the body, so you could be heard easily without having to drag a combo along (which defeats the whole object). Plenty of room inside the useless sound hole! I have an Adam Black B10- actually really nicely made instrument, but won't be heard next to a couple of acoustic 6-strings. So whichever way you cut it, you're going to need reinforcement of some kind. Maybe a Harley Benton U-bass clone with a cheap combo?
18. If it's anything like my old one, it will be great! Only reason I sold is I don't get on with Jazz basses- I'm P through and through, and am now hankering for a silver series P! Great neck profile on these and the ceramic pickups sound awesome. BTW I think the body is basswood. It's definitely not Ply!
19. He can play though, for someone who 'can't play bass….' I love the irony in his revised description now!! 20. Ask him why he bothers sanding the brand off the headstock if 'brands' don't mean anything to him. "personally whatever writing is on a a guitars headstock is of no importance whatsoever to me as a musician"
21. Saw Seth Lakeman play on his own, in the New Inn on Tresco 2 years ago. Great gig. Would recommend seeing him, he gets stuck right in.
22. Now that's nice! I liked the Am. Specials I tried. Weight?
23.
I generally prefer 15's when talking active subs for a band. The 18's are better for djs who need extension down to 35hz but the weight of a kick drum is around 60hz and any decent 15 should excel at that frequency.
Yes that was my experience with the Mackie vs JBL- the 18's really benefitted from the sonic maximiser to get that thump.
24. Interesting too that the price keeps increasing... Perhaps he's chancing his arm a bit more each time?
25. Right I've spent a few minutes trying to get accurate chords (as opposed to power chords and this seems to be close, might help answer you question and maybe a theory whizz can help decipher the key: Verse G D/F# F C Eb7 F "and I feel it" part D Cadd9 G/B Cadd9 Bridge Eb7 F Chorus G F C Eb7 D G Here's the link: http://www.e-chords.com/chords/stone-temple-pilots/plush Hope it helps!
