1. Check out Marlowedk on YouTube. He throws ghost notes into almost every groove, and slows it all down so you can see what he's doing.
2. I noticed the backward right handed EBO. Didn't notice it was strung upside down! No idea who he is, but he looked cool!
3. That's a VM Squier body. Where the neck is from is anyone's guess!
4.
A decent preamp can give you a bit more chunk and bit more presence and a bit more balls. I've found that the amp alone can sound a bit - background - and the preamp allows the bass to step forward in the mix and have a bit more identity and define its space a little better. My bandmates have noticed the difference and commented positively when I switched from a Behringer BDI preamp to the Hartke Bass Attack recently.
The Bass Attack will definitely give you more presence and balls. Adds a lot more weight to the sound, especially if you use the shape button and cut the high mids.
5. This looks identical to a bass I was watching on eBay last year. It was for sale in London, and was a USA '57 reissue complete body with a mighty mite neck. It's identical down to the gold tug bar and knobs, and neck logo. The opening price was £350, first time round it ended with no bids, second time it sold. I'll see if I can find it.
6. Take On Me. Absolutely loathe that song.
7. Alex James's logo-less '57 style P bass looked nice though. Wonder how gets on with a 1.75" neck when it's hanging lower than his balls?
8.
My sister-in-law sold an unwanted/duplicate wedding present on ebay. The buyer claimed it was faulty which it wasn't, he got refunded and sent her back an empty box.
Unreal.
9.
Ouch. Have to say, I never buy or sell anything musically related other than face to face. It means I may get a bit less for stuff I flog, but I don't get shafted. Also means I can make sure things I buy are as described. Funny. I've never had a problem selling buying other stuff - fishing tackle, etc, but musical kit seems to attract shystyers in their droves. A scam for sellers to be aware of is the "it arrived damaged/was faulty" trick. The buyer will pay you via PayPal and send a "courier" to collect. You receive no acknowledgement from the "courier" of the condition of the item. Surprise, surprise, you then get a message claiming it was broken/faulty and the payment is clawed back. If you make the mistake of paying the return postage to the buyer, you will receive a broken/faulty sample of the pristine item you originally sent.
Yup this has happened to me. You have absolutely no way of winning a situation such as this either with Paypal. They simply refuse to believe the buyer could be telling porkies, and more often than not the buyer can end up with the goods AND a refund.
10. That's the worst relic job I have ever seen.
11. That's beautiful. What's the question mark about? Stamp duty.... In what sane and just world does a man have to sell a bass like this, just to pay tax on a new house.
12.
I was thinking this, looks like it is...Make your own mirrored scratchplate!
Except he used the wrong side of the foil!
13. I always thought we were like football referees (soccer for you Blue), in that you don't notice a good one. That's what I've convinced myself anyway. I've played gigs where I've gone to the toilet at the break and stood next to people discussing the band without them recognising me. Thankfully it was fairly complimentary.
14. It looks like it could be a later domestic JV as opposed to the 'export' JV's that gained the great reputation. I'm sure it's great either way, I've been tempted to try and find a medium scale P.
15. Just bought a Beta pedal from Alex. Alex was kind enough to hold it for me for a few days, once paid for it turned up straight away, well packaged and was in perfect condition. Deal with confidence!!
16.
What's the difference between fuzz, distortion and overdrive? If I was looking for something akin to very light valve breakup, which would I get?
Overdrive! Although some low gain fuzzes will give you a nice breakup sound
17.
Or neck-plate.
Or Truss wheel! Dear god... How much is the bridge cover worth? That's what I'd pay for the bass.
18. Vintage and rare. Looks lovely, but…. what the hell is going on with that 3-tone burst? Was this a friday afternoon job or did they let the apprentice loose with the spray gun? http://www.vintageandrareguitars.com/product/1963-fender-precision-bass/ They've not even tried to blend that in!
19.
You would love the TAFM then!
What is a TAFM? Always with the acronyms!
20. Hell yeah, fuzz me up baby! What I've come to realise is I don't like the muff sound. It sounds artificial to my ears, too clipped and buzzy, although I like the warmth and fatness. I don't like the Zvex mammoth for the same reason, or the MXR El Grande bass fuzz. I've just bought a Fender Sublime from the for sale section and I love it. It's exactly what I want from fuzz- fat, vintage, warm, creamy, and the fuzz sounds more like tube breakup than a wasp in a jam jar. Plus it sounds like my bass, just a fuzzier version. Too often fuzz sounds completely synthesised. I also have a danelectro V1 cool cat fuzz which is a Frantone Peach Fuzz clone, love that too, not as much as the Sublime! Sublime is huge though. Ridiculously so!
21. They do look cool though, and will look great on a RW. You've just given me RW Jazz gas!
22. Bargain! Loving mine again after I put EHX preamp valves in. Proper growly and no wool!
23. The worst bass I've played over the past few years was a flea bass. Tried 2 or 3 in the shop. Every one was a nasty pile of dog poop.
24. Yes not really roadworn, more scrapyard!
25. Dear god....
