  1. My Jap TSB650 from 1979 is 4kgs. I don’t feally get on with the neck and string spacing, being a long time Fender player. But it’s a really well crafted bass.
  2. Amazingly I also bought a ‘72 Jazz in ‘82. It has been very well used since and suffered somewhat due to poor quality components. Some of which were binned in the intervening years and replacements fitted so it can never be 100% original. But it stays in tune, plays and sounds wonderful, looks a bit tired and these days never goes out of the house.
  3. I don’t know if it’s common but I have seen it before.
  4. I’ve enjoyed reading this NYE gigs part of the thread. I have refused to play any gigs on December 31 for many a year. There was never a good one, so I’m happy to see some of you managed a decent evening.
  5. The duo I’m half of has used a beat-buddy for a couple of years now, using drum tracks the other half created in Cubase. It’s worked well and we always do a proper sound check at every gig. We are currently creating some additional backing tracks, played by us, to beef up the overall sound. But it’s a cautious approach as I don’t want to appear just another karaoke act. There are more than enough of those around already.
  6. yes that’s how I got a short scale.
  7. You can add your own drum tracks to the Beatbuddy pedal. But this may be too much of a faff if the drummer is hopefully only going to be ill for a short time.
  8. Yep. Probably in the oven. 🙂 It’s happened before, apparently caused by condensation due to the oven not being used enough. Fortunately we have another one, plus the air fryer and a few candles. We shall not go hungry.
  9. Mrs Edge turned the oven on last evening and all the power in the house went off. Why do things always go wrong at Christmas. Have a great day, thanks to everyone for being here. (Problem sorted btw)
  10. Bit of a Queen night on Sky Arts kicking off at 8 this evening with the 1986 Wembley Stadium gig.
  11. Singing lessons? For a blues band? Interesting.
  12. Same here. I have to confess to not being able to name a single bassist beyond McCartney and Wyman when I started playing bass. Probably shows you how long ago that was. And honestly I still couldn’t tell you who plays with what band, even if I am familiar with the name. I have often been asked who my favourite bassist is over the intervening years and I really don’t have an answer. I suppose I’m just weird.
  13. A bit different to most of the artists in this thread, Rick Wakeman tomorrow evening in Bexhill on Sea. Almost an annual for us as he’s an old friend of Mrs Edge. And on the 27th. Peter Pan. Yes, really. The only show next year so far is Derren Brown in Brighton.
  14. I always made a point of using the indicators whenever possible on my 3 series M sport. Loved the very audible tick tock they made. Happy that the current 1 series does the same. And whenever possible I make other BMW drivers wait at junctions. Does that make me a bad person?
  15. Many moons ago I acquired a lump of wood in the shape of a Fender bass. No hardware, frets etc. just wood. We screwed it to the back of the van so it lay across the doors. Came out of a gig one night and some idiot had stolen it. They hadn’t even bothered to try opening the doors.
  16. Thanks, found the serial number, B03721. Apart from a very nice example it was a wedding anniversary gift to myself. So doubly special. Just in case you all think bad of me, I bought my wife a very nice silver and gold bracelet in Tiffany’s the same day. She still wears it.
  17. Great story. I would love to get my 1996 Stingray back, which I purchased in Manny’s a couple of weeks after the manufacture date. Sold it on eBay to a lady in Scotland, probably around 2000/2001. Also in a Hiscox case.
  18. The one thing I don’t want to hear from a pub band is what every other feckin’ pub band is playing.
  19. Very hot chili sauce might work.
  20. My TriSound TSB 650, serial no. 119064 with Matsumoko stamped neck plate was dated November 1979, production number 64, by some Aria guru on Talkbass a few years ago. 1979 would appear correct as the headstock shape changed from Fender style 4 on the side to the more familiar Aria style 2+2 in 1980 along with a name change to Thor Sound.
  21. Singers should be made to realise they sound much better if they don’t try eating the microphone. I had one singer who made his SM58 shield fall apart with rust. Fortunately for him replacements are available.
  22. In the duo we have some 90 songs, and a typical gig will consist of about half that number. We change the set list every gig but obviously some songs will linger across gigs. We add new songs regularly, and some don’t last long. We play covers from the 50’s up to current.
  23. My 2006 3 eq 4 HH bought 12 months ago off FB Marketplace for £1200, including a quality generic hard case, weighs 4.6kgs. Marginally more than my 1976 Jazz. Reasonably priced options are still out there.
  24. Yep. Pretty sure Hank done it that way. Why 3 when 2 will do. But then again, Texas Cookin’ by Guy Clark. Just the 1.
  25. Found this on YouTube yesterday, Fats Domino and his band playing Jambalaya live. Those guys were amazing, I have no idea who any of them were. The bass player never gives up and the sax player is extraordinary. And then there’s the guy dancing about in front. Show business at it’s best. Edit. Lee Allen and Walter Kimble, both amazing sax players
