    Genz Benz!! Versatile, light and reliable. Only criticism i've heard is that they have the ability to make a poorly built/quality bass sound truly sh*te and a well built one sound fantastic. My G&L L2000 tribute sounded particularly fantastic through mine. Try em oot!

I bought/traded about 20 basses before I upgraded my amp 80% of the setup is that to me.

    Yep get a G&L tribute basically a Jazz and P bass in one but has an active boost to give it some life, best value for money. Same electronics as the american series. Alternatively you have your stingray or going with the round soapbar sound the bartolini's in Cort and Ibanez are fantastic. All my suggestions are active. You've just experienced what I did owning a P bass, great fun to look at/play but a very woody/woolly tone met with some strings clanking against the fretboard - the most unprecise bass i've played, although maybe it refers to timing. Its a MASSIVE irony, however I was using a Tokai Hardpuncher but I also had the same experience with a Charvel P. If you have a good Precision like the post 2008 Fender American you just need better amplification and crank it many people 50/50 love the tone and get by using them solely. If you like the Steve Harris Iron Maiden tone you could always stick a hotter pickup in the body like a seymour duncan quarter pounder, the newer P basses are largely helped by the nitro finish for more resonance like its been worn in like an old one. Rosewood boards help for thumpy motown flatwound sound, maple + roundwounds growly rock.

    Interesting idea, I would love a double bass - sad that finding the cash has always prevented me!! This would be perfect for transport on the trains

[/quote] Thats me new Masterbuilt Charvel Star lol its a classic '78 finish, pretty marmite but think of Ziggy Stardust n it don't seem all that bad...really...hmm? Take my word for it haha. Plays like a dream though and sounds the biz plus the woods are top quality, just can't shake the GAS for cheesey LA hair metal guitars :blush: I'm not intending to give up bass entirely, just got a lil too peeved at my hands being too small for 75% with the hand injury n so on but there ain't no guitar I can't play and I thought it might help my theory/inspiration. I've only played a John Birch Rickenbacker so i'm not so sure how a real one would feel, but tonally, that with flatwounds is where its at!

    Agreed, I only like high output old skool pickups with flatwound strings. This makes me miss my EB3 . If i still played bass this would be gone and possibly defretted - at a great price like that who cares about modification!

    I got the pleasure of being the first BCer to deal with Flea's Disciple. I sold Callum my flawless Peavey Cirrrus with immediate payment following a polite and friendly phone call with his father. I'm glad the bass went to a good home as it was most definately one of the better guitars i've owned. Great communication, easy transaction and a true bass enthusiast. Deal with confidence!!     I've seen one like Stag's before in a cash converters in Carlisle - very nearly my first bass! Still smitten with the explorer/destroyer/star shape today.

    Just sold my G&L L2000 Tribute to Tom this week. It was the fastest sale I've ever had, the fastest payment I've ever had and a fantastic no hassle deal with quick polite response and communication. Tom's a true gent, just glad to have added to his great collection! Can only hope to have this kind of easy buying and selling in the future . Thanks again Tom! Enjoy
