I've always used Thomastik Infeld Flatwounds, I love D'addario rounds but the flats were lacking the vintage tone a lil for me. I'm no expert but TI's are pretty safe, I would go for Labella otherwise.

Just a quick question: Where would I get a hold of this? The Local market? I have seen it in packaging before, i'm thinking its the really firm dark grey stuff. Cheers Oli Matt

Haha, me and Cetera seem to be on the exact same wavelength when it comes to gear . I didn't mind the glitter band too much until all the baggage that came with it...erm but I'd probably be looking to John Birch were I to play his music - not sure it would go down well but after couple o buds and i'd give it a bash!! Chris Holmes is the exact reason I got it, just needed the Budweiser graphic and i'd be sorted, been listening to WASP since I was 4 and wore out my dads Crimson Idol tape. ahh how sad , going to see em in November

I purchased a '56 Bravewood Tele/Precision Bass copy from Kevin on friday afternoon and arrived here for monday - can't ask for better service than that, superquick packaging. The bass and case turned up in mint condition with extras and a brand new set of strings fitted, a fantastic value quality guitar to match the others in his collection and those sold previously on BC (the Nordstrands!!). Love it when musicians look after their stuff. Flawless correspondance, and a true gentleman to talk to. Thanks again Kevin, been searching for a great vintage style bass such as this for a loooong time . All the best!
Price? I quite like the Bongo. Having played a couple they've sounded great and played nicely. The looks are much better in person too; they look miles better strapped on! Probably my favourite bass in the Musicman range, although I do seriously question the use of basswood in the body, it seems like a bit of a cheapo option! I remember seeing Joe Satriani live being supported by some guy called Johnny A. Johnny's bassist played a white Bongo 5 HH and sounded absolutely dreadful, like he was behind a wall of pillows. The Dave LaRue came onstage with Joe playing a variety of Bongos which sounded consistently great! So the player has a lot to answer for!
I went to this gig, although I thought Johnny. A's bassist sounded sweet. Walking basslines a plenty. Dave La Rue's one of my favourite bass players and he used both a Sterling and a Bongo with Satriani (mainly the sterling). I preferred the Bongo, the Sterling's neck is cramped chordally and the tone not beefy enough - I vote Bongo.

Defretted that would be high on my wish list. Brilliant with frets as well though! ESP are vastly underrated.

Lucky man!! I want it. Its like the Fender 50th Anniversary but better value. +1 a simple white scratchplate would look nicer.

I love bolt on basses too! I live in Carlisle as well, always wanted an Overwater for sentimental value, yours is stunning.
Used to have one of these, lovely basses, Im really surprised this one hasn't gone yet, Bobs a great bloke to deal with and really takes care of his basses, this will certainly be worth a punt for someone....
+1 Now Overwater have changed to east preamps they sound the biz. This would be effortless to play as well. -
Nicely mental.... The guitarist I've worked with for the last 15 years had gone through literally dozens of guitars in that time. However, one thats always stayed close and been used on most gigs is a US Charvel white strat shaped neck thru thing. Must be good then.
Aww thats lovely to hear!! They based they're necks on measurements from a '64 Fender Strat, I think thats their best feature, although theres some dispute between whether Charvel or Ibanez necks are the best, comfort wise the Charvel wins but I guess speed wise Ibanez is on top (I've owned both previously). I don't think they made many thru necks, mainly bolt on hot rods for punchy chords and strat tone style solos whilst nicking the Gibson bridge humbucker - for classic rockers the crunch is fantastic. I owned the P/P Star bass which was ok, but the reissue series wasn't the best quality to be frank. They make fantastic custom tele basses but the guitar tone is particularly unique and very recognisable...to me anyway, easy as telling between a Precision or Jazz bass.

I've tried both but still couldn't decide, I think a G&L L2000 is a fantastic compromise of both although I know i'd like a P mainly because of the neck. I have small hands but chordally its easier and less cramped for me on a wide neck and it compromises my speed minimally - a P also has a better band presence, provided you have a good amp. If I were playing in my room i'd use a Jazz/stingray or Rickenbacker for the look and tonal fun but a precision is essential to have. +1 for a G&L L2000 covers the fenders well in passive or active.
