2. Good luck Dave and let us know once you start gigging. Always happy to support local bands (and hopefully find new venues into the process). Graeme
3.
If there's a clip of someone nailing "Teen Town" live with they're own band, I would enjoy hearing it. Blue
can't post the youtube link but if you do a search there's a very good vid of Marcus Miller 'nailing' It with his band.
4. or the gigguide.. http://www.gigguide.co.uk/Edinburgh%20Listings/edinburghwednesday.htm
5. Just bought Alan's Muff deluxe. Arrived very quickly, well packaged and working perfectly. Great guy to business with. Graeme
6.
We had our carpets cleaned on Monday. After the the carpet cleaner saw my bass guitars (and asked my wife if I was well known - oh how she laughed!) he announced he used to be a long term roadie for Yes. Does that count?
It's as tenuous as my YES anecdote so YES it counts
7. YES and Women don't normally feature in the same sentence
8. There's a five string on Ebay at the mo - Liverpool based I think. Finishes in a couple of days.
9. Take an acoustic bass instead. Kelly Dragonfly projects well.
10. Rod Clements of Lindisfarne fame went to the same school as me but he left at the age of 12, 2 years before I was born. and At tech college in 1979, I bought a King bass head and 2x15 cab off one of the lecturers - he assured me the cab had once belonged to Chris squire
11.
Our of curiosity and boredom, I cut a slice of foam off a new sponge (don't tell the Mrs) and fashioned a perfect section to fit nicely under the strings by the bridge on my four string Precision as a soft mute. Oh my goodness, I was in Tamla Motown heaven for hours on end. It just opens up a whole new world and adds a new feather to the cap. For the first few seconds it sounds kinda 'whoah' like a set of dead strings but suddenly 'that vibe' kicks in and you're off. Give it a bash, you can thank me later.
carol kaye invented this and has been doing it for over 40 years. (or so she says )
12. My NS EUB is a 5 string and I really like the neck profile. Would be interested to know how the Thomann compares.
13. Been doing the same search cos I want to be able to do acoustic sets and not take the NS. Looks like either £1200 Thomann or over £12000 elsewhere. TBH I suspect the Thomann would be more than adequate for my needs.
14. Thanks for the heads up. Recorder set. Years ago (sometime around 1990) there was a documentary about mingus that was almost as astonishing as his autobiography - seem to recall him chasing after someone with a shotgun.
15.
It's just all for show. A large PA can put out more bass than any 'Monster' bass rig.
On the other hand, John Myung has been pretty much inaudible since he stopped using on stage amps.
16. Bought John's Bow Quiver. Arrived next day in perfect condition. Top bloke!
17. When the Grateful dead were using the wall of sound, Phil Lesh had a pair of stacks either side of the drums - 16 x 15inch cabs on each side.
18. To me, the big problem with the BBOT is the lack of a sideways locking method for the saddles. I used to dig in quite hard and I'd find the saddles would move side to side a fair bit. Surely not a good thing. Grooves to 'trap' the grub screws would have been a simple addition and would solve the problem.
19. I used to work for an IT company in Bournville - MD was Brigitte Blow.
20. Not an open mic but Whistlebinkies does a showcase night every week. Think it's a Tuesday - you play for 20 minutes. All backline / PA and drums provided. You have to bring cymbals and a snare. They have contact details on their website. Bannermans may do something similar. If you're good they may add you to their roster but like all venues you have to keep nagging them for gigs.
