  1. My ex reguarly used to photograph my guitars and compare them to see if I'd bought any new basses. Anyway, she's my ex now ... my new missus couldn't give a flying hairy one how many basses I own.
  2. I bought one recently and put it on my Dough Wimbish Spector but to be honest, I've hardly used it. All my basses are 5 strings apart from the Doug Wimbish so I thought I'd need a Hipshot to compensate but I haven't really found the need to use one when I've been playing.
  3. Stupid question I know, but does this have a truss rod? I honestly don't' whether a truss rod would make any difference to a graphite neck.
  4. Could possibly be tempted - try me !
  5. This did make me laugh. It's obviously been translated but it's come out slightly ... well ... funny ... "The unique body shape is an impressive balance even in an entangled band ensemble" "An important feature of the Specter base is that there is no blur in the sound concept from the first release". "Please try a solid sound with a strong core". https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SPECTOR-EURO-4-LX-Black/303203714983?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3Db31db68a58f147ed985d846d8742ecc6%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D254298907362%26itm%3D303203714983%26pg%3D2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
  6. Selling my Ampeg 4x10 cab due to buying an Ashdown 6x10 and the missus moaning at me that it's taking up room in the kitchen. It's a great amp, done several gigs with it and it's never let me down. Very manouverable as it's got it's own in-built tip-up castors. Tolex has seen better days (hence the cheap price) but it's fully working and sounds killer. Spec is as follows: LF Drivers: 4 x 10” Voice Coil: 2” Magnet Weight (each): 30 oz HF Drivers: Horn/Driver Voice Coil: 1” Magnet Weight (each): 8 oz RMS Power Handling: 500-Watts Frequency Response (-3dB): 48Hz-18kHz Usable Low Frequency (-10dB): 28Hz Nominal Impedance: 4-Ohms Sensitivity: 98dB Maximum SPL: 125dB Dimensions (W x H x D inches): 24 x 30 x 19 Handling Weight: 38.5kgs
  7. It has to be John Entwistle for me. There are many innovators in the world of music but very very few that actually change the way an instrument is played and sounds. Some of these people who spring to mind are Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Jaco Pastorius, James Jameson and Paul McCartney to name just a few. John Entwistle is certainly one of those people. His sound, technique and approach to bass playing, in an era when bass players were expected to stand in the background and sit back in the mix was nothing short of revolutionary. Not only that, but to have a bass solo (on My Generation), so ballsy and in your face at that time (1965) was unheard of. The roundwound piano-like string sound on a bass was also pioneered by John Entwistle working alongside Rotosound. This, at a time when bass was usually muddy and woolly, Entwistle's approach was a truly unique concept which remains a standard in bass playing to this day. He continued to innovate, laying down stunning, well constructed and downright complex bass lines in hit songs which remain memorable to this day, long after his passing. A bass playing legacy which will live on in the world of bass playing forever. It's a fair assumption to say that everyone on this thread quoting their most influential endorsee, should bear in mind that their favoured endorsee has either directly, or indirectly been influenced by the great man. He is rightly recognised as not only a man who changed the way the bass guitar sounds and is played, but one who changed music. Forever.
  8. That really is a good demo isn't it? I wish a few other companies would take note, rather than have some numb-skulled herbert slapping the crap out of a bass in attempt to demonstrate the "flexibility" of an amp.
  9. I could be wrong but I remember this bass from it's days at Trace Elliot (I might have even played it). It was used for testing out repaired amps etc. It's didn't have the Trace Elliot paint job / sticker job at the time though.
  10. Mine too. Bought it for £40 in 1983 and it was one of the early ones with the "Westone" lettering. Super heavy, although I didn't realise it at the time but it sounded great. I used it for years and still don't know what happened to it. Not sure i miss the weight but I do remember playing through an old valve head at a rehearsal studio in the mid-80s and it sounded immense. As mentioned, the build quality was brilliant but I wouldn't expect anything less from them early Matsumoko basses.
  11. My two - Spector Euro 5XL and Doug Wimbish Signature.
  12. Genuinely lol'd at that ...
  13. Did a dep for a local metal covers band at a bike clubs 30th Anniversary. Ampeg SVT3 Pro Ashdown ABM 6x10 Korg Pitch Black Tuner
  14. Gawd .. have you had one nicked ? Yeah, 4ohm 900watt job. I will destroy the venue on Saturday if it turns up on time. Otherwise I'll be using the SVT3
  15. Well, offer was accepted - £350 + postage which seems reasonable. I'll let you know my findings. I'll be using it was an Ashdown ABM 6x10. Thanks!
  16. Just made an offer on a GK 1001RB Mk II. I'll let you know how it goes.
  17. Thanks for all the comments fellas. I think I'll have to get a GK just to see how good they are in the flesh. Very impressed with the demo of the Legacy heads although it might just be out of my budget at the moment. That's pretty much the route I've trod. What's your opinion on the GK 1001RB Mk II ?
  18. I've read their book and yes... they were deffo miming . They were all roaring drunk from the free booze the BBC had supplied, especially the bass player Vince Reardon. The guitarist threatened to knock out Steve Wright after the show and they all had to jump the barriers at White City station as they had no money to get home.
  19. They're due to be in the UK in late July according to Andertons: https://www.andertons.co.uk/bass-dept/bass-amps/bass-amp-heads/solid-state-bass-amp-heads/gallien-krueger-legacy-1200-1200-watt-bass-amplifier
  20. Trouble is, Yorkshire people are tight as chocolate starfish and won't spend Christmas so I doubt he'll sell much ! 😂😂
  21. Been reading a lot about Gallien Krueger Amps lately and hearing only good things. I'm currently using an Ampeg SVT3 through an Ashdown 6x10 and it's great. I've got a Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 as a backup which sound great but my Spectors cause some severe clipping due to the super hot Tone Pump (I have to have it almost turned off to prevent clipping). Does anybody have good things to say about Gallien Krueger Amps ? Specifically the class D stuff like the Fusion or the MB range.
  22. He definitely used one back in the day ...
  23. Cockney Rejects, Vince Reardon used a Thunderbird: You've also got Mike Watt from the Minutemen who used a Thunderbird Tripp Underwood of The Unseen Krist Novoselic of Nirvana
  24. Bruce Foxton in the early days it was always a Rick. Later with SLF and From The Jam on a Precision maybe but it was always Ricks and a Musicman. Precisions were synonymous with Punk - Paul Simmonen Jean-Jaques Brunel Sid Vicious Dee Dee Ramone Glen Matlock to name just a few of the iconic bassists. There were loads more.
