  1. For sale is a set of Aguilar DCB-G4 5 String Soapbar Pickups that came out of a Spector Euro 5LX. There's some slight wear on one of the pickup lettering but obviously doesn't affect the sound. This is what Aguilar have to say about the pickups: The DCB® pickups use dual ceramic bar magnets that provide a dynamic and responsive attack that works for all playing styles. These pickups have well-developed overtones and singing sustain in the body and decay of the notes. The uniform magnetic field of a bar magnet allows each note to have accurate dynamic response and more harmonic content; no information is lost as the string moves back and forth. Our proprietary design takes these benefits to a new level that will bring out the best qualities in any instrument. The DCB® pickups sound great installed in a passive bass or in conjunction with an onboard preamp. Dimensions are here Price includes postage & packing in UK. Can collect or meet up in Kent or certain parts of London (please ask).
  2. Hmm ... that's hardly "weight relief" if that is an accurate weight ! No info on the Spector site about the weight either : http://www.spectorbass.com/Euro4LT
  3. The neck on the Doug Wimbish is probably the best 4-string neck I have ever played on any bass ever (and believe me, I've owned a hell of a lot in my time). It's just perfect, the right combination of width and depth. It really is a fantastic bass. I noticed the same on the Anderton's site too. The spec is also wrong on a couple of their ads as well. They also claimed they'd beat any genuine price but when I found a Spector cheaper than theirs, they refused saying the offer didn't extend to Spector basses ... Grrrr !!! The Doug Wimbish is way lighter than 8lbs and this new one of mine can't be any more than 8lbs. I'll admit that my other one is a lot heavier, nearer 10lbs or more. They're doing a new Euro LT series for 2019 that has "weight relief" applied to them (I can only think that means they're chambered or the alder used is lighter - they don't say on their site). Check out the second bass down: http://www.spectorbass.com/EuroSeries
  4. This particular 5LX has had the Tone Pump removed and an EMG BTQ pre installed, however my other 5LX has the Tone Pump and as you say, it was incorrectly set up. The output was waaaaay too hot and it was causing clipping on all my amps. This may have been the reason the previous owner sold it on and I had to open it up and turn the trim pot down to make the signal output lower. Now it's really nice. The official blurb on the Tone Pump describes it as bass and treble boost now which is a much more accurate description. The real downside for me regarding the Tone Pump is the lack of centre detente which would be really useful as a reference point. Comparing the two basses, the sound is completely different. At the moment, I prefer the EMG pre-amp as having that mid boost is great and gives much more tonal variety. That being said, the Tone Pump in my Doug Wimbish 4LX is really suited to a PJ setup and sounds fantastic.
  5. That's what sold it to me. You'd should hear what it sounds like with new strings ... it's insane! Ha ... ! I knew we'd lose but not in the way we did. This has more than made up for it !
  6. Here's a clip of the previous owner playing some Rush on it ... sounds amazing and believe me, these strings were as dead as a door nail when I got the bass ..
  7. Got this delivered today. Its a Euro 5LX with EMG BQC pre-amp and soapbar EMG 40J (bridge) and 40P (neck) pickups. Holy crap this thing is great. Lighter than my other Euro 5LX and much more tonal variation than the Tone Pump. Got a gig on Sunday so will be giving it a blast through the Ampeg
  8. Is it me or does that top horn look like a massive golden dildo ?
  9. In worlds of Madge from Benidorm ... VILE LOOKING THING !!
  10. Christ, there's some serious earthing issues on that bass for sure! It actually doesn't sound that bad but that video could never do it any justice whatsoever.
  11. Yeah OK, but what do you think of his guitar ?
  12. Crikey! Just looking at that natural colour bass hanging up one the wall in the background. The pickups are all over the place, looks like it was routed by Stevie Wonder, blindfolded in a dark room!
  13. I remember the E1010 Delay was used by Geoff Berlin back in the 80s. Is the tuner for sale ?
  14. That's true ... I used one for years and it was great. Not that heavy all things considered, especially the sound from it which is top drawer. It's hard to get a bad sound from it.
  15. I had a pair of these in a 76 Jazz Bass that I had back in the late 80s. They sound huge and much better than the stock pickups. GLWTS
  16. Does my knob bring the heft ?
  17. I had a fretless BB1100s back in the day and it was a great bass, really well constructed and from what I remember a great neck on it too. Recorded and did some geat gigs with it and was always my go to bass for about two years. GLWTS
  18. I had one of these, great bit of kit. Actually recorded a whole album with one and the results were superb. Very underrated but of kit. GLWTS
  19. I remember years ago when I first left school (back in 1986) and I got a job as a van boy with Currys the electrical firm. Started working there and within the first week or so got chatting to a bloke working in the warehouse about music. He was a West Indian fella, bit older than me. I happened to mention that I played bass to which he said, “oh I used to play bass in a band, still play a bit now too”. Fascinated I asked him which band and he said, “Well you probably haven’t heard of them but you’ll have heard of the singer” "Who’s the singer?" I asked “Eddie Grant. I used to play bass for The Equals”. Me being a complete prat thought “This bloke is talking shit3 - Eddie Grant never sang for The Eagles”. It was only afterwards that someone told it was “The Equals” and that they’d had a few hits back in the 60s. He was a top bloke, proper gentleman. Also, out on a delivery one day in Woodford Green, East London and we stop at a house. I knock on the door and an old-ish lady answers. “Washing machine delivery luv” and we proceed to wheel this washing machine into the ladies house. On the way in I notice some gold discs on the wall and Iron Maiden posters, specifically a lot with Dave Murray on them. “Bit of an Iron Maiden fan are you?” To which she replied “Oh yes, my son plays guitar for them”. I look down at the delivery note and sure enough, her name is Mrs Murray. Turns out he was born in the same hospital as me too. She actually complained to our bosses that we didn’t take the scrap washing machine away, even though she never even asked us to. I’ve hated Iron Maiden ever since! (That might have a lot to do with that utter helmet, D1ck Dickenson).
  20. Get some Hammerite high temprature paint ... job done ! 😂
  21. I am now lusting after this from Bass Direct: I've just noticed though that the export price outside of the EU is cheaper by £300. Any idea why that is ?
  22. His chosen method for lowering action on both basses and guitars is to file down the nut grooves which is just plain daft. The whole thing about taking seven string guitars and five-string basses and converting them to be minus one string for players with "big hands" is to my mind just plain crazy. How people buy this garbage is beyond me.
  23. Any sound clips? I'm intrigued as to what this bass sounds like. ** EDIT ** I actually found this clip online of Stuart Spector talking over the functionality and sound of this bass. Sounds really nice as it goes.
  24. You know why he's called Slash? He stinks of unrine apparently!
  25. I can't even begin to list everything wrong with this bass ... and the price is "optimistic" to say the least! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/P-J-bass-guitar-custom-refinements/192971149387?hash=item2cedfa104b:g:YwwAAOSwTBtdGiwU
