Christ, there's some serious earthing issues on that bass for sure! It actually doesn't sound that bad but that video could never do it any justice whatsoever.

Crikey! Just looking at that natural colour bass hanging up one the wall in the background. The pickups are all over the place, looks like it was routed by Stevie Wonder, blindfolded in a dark room!

I remember years ago when I first left school (back in 1986) and I got a job as a van boy with Currys the electrical firm. Started working there and within the first week or so got chatting to a bloke working in the warehouse about music. He was a West Indian fella, bit older than me. I happened to mention that I played bass to which he said, “oh I used to play bass in a band, still play a bit now too”. Fascinated I asked him which band and he said, “Well you probably haven’t heard of them but you’ll have heard of the singer” "Who’s the singer?" I asked “Eddie Grant. I used to play bass for The Equals”. Me being a complete prat thought “This bloke is talking shit3 - Eddie Grant never sang for The Eagles”. It was only afterwards that someone told it was “The Equals” and that they’d had a few hits back in the 60s. He was a top bloke, proper gentleman. Also, out on a delivery one day in Woodford Green, East London and we stop at a house. I knock on the door and an old-ish lady answers. “Washing machine delivery luv” and we proceed to wheel this washing machine into the ladies house. On the way in I notice some gold discs on the wall and Iron Maiden posters, specifically a lot with Dave Murray on them. “Bit of an Iron Maiden fan are you?” To which she replied “Oh yes, my son plays guitar for them”. I look down at the delivery note and sure enough, her name is Mrs Murray. Turns out he was born in the same hospital as me too. She actually complained to our bosses that we didn’t take the scrap washing machine away, even though she never even asked us to. I’ve hated Iron Maiden ever since! (That might have a lot to do with that utter helmet, D1ck Dickenson).

I am now lusting after this from Bass Direct: I've just noticed though that the export price outside of the EU is cheaper by £300. Any idea why that is ?

His chosen method for lowering action on both basses and guitars is to file down the nut grooves which is just plain daft. The whole thing about taking seven string guitars and five-string basses and converting them to be minus one string for players with "big hands" is to my mind just plain crazy. How people buy this garbage is beyond me.

My ex reguarly used to photograph my guitars and compare them to see if I'd bought any new basses. Anyway, she's my ex now ... my new missus couldn't give a flying hairy one how many basses I own.

I bought one recently and put it on my Dough Wimbish Spector but to be honest, I've hardly used it. All my basses are 5 strings apart from the Doug Wimbish so I thought I'd need a Hipshot to compensate but I haven't really found the need to use one when I've been playing.

This did make me laugh. It's obviously been translated but it's come out slightly ... well ... funny ... It has to be John Entwistle for me. There are many innovators in the world of music but very very few that actually change the way an instrument is played and sounds. Some of these people who spring to mind are Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Jaco Pastorius, James Jameson and Paul McCartney to name just a few. John Entwistle is certainly one of those people. His sound, technique and approach to bass playing, in an era when bass players were expected to stand in the background and sit back in the mix was nothing short of revolutionary. Not only that, but to have a bass solo (on My Generation), so ballsy and in your face at that time (1965) was unheard of. The roundwound piano-like string sound on a bass was also pioneered by John Entwistle working alongside Rotosound. This, at a time when bass was usually muddy and woolly, Entwistle's approach was a truly unique concept which remains a standard in bass playing to this day. He continued to innovate, laying down stunning, well constructed and downright complex bass lines in hit songs which remain memorable to this day, long after his passing. A bass playing legacy which will live on in the world of bass playing forever. It's a fair assumption to say that everyone on this thread quoting their most influential endorsee, should bear in mind that their favoured endorsee has either directly, or indirectly been influenced by the great man. He is rightly recognised as not only a man who changed the way the bass guitar sounds and is played, but one who changed music. Forever.

That really is a good demo isn't it? I wish a few other companies would take note, rather than have some numb-skulled herbert slapping the crap out of a bass in attempt to demonstrate the "flexibility" of an amp.
