I might be nitpicking but if I were a shop advertising a £2.7k bass I'd at least have a pic of a Ric and NOT a Stingray (Oh and in the eBay prefilled bit NOT have 'Sub-type: Musicman')! Just small details I know but you'd expect a large chain to do better.
Hiya mate. Do you have any pics of that setup? Got the two aggie cabs myself and keen to se what it look slike :-)
I have to confess the pad is pretty unobtrusive and I've yet to have anybody at a gig (other than band members) even notice that it is there. I'll flick through some recent gig pics later but I've not 'specifically' taken a pic of it so it may well be a background jobbie. If I can't find one I'll get one taken but I don't have a gig for a couple of weeks, so as and when.
I seem to remember that with the Black Widow range (and this applies to the 12"'s and the 15"s) the guitar cab versions have paper based cones whilst the PA versions have composite plastic type cones. You will definitely wanna make sure you get the instrument cab version before you part with your cash . . . if your gonna be using it in a bass cab that is ?
Are you sure? As I say I have a pair of HiSys II PA speakers and the drivers in these are the identical items (i.e. paper cones) that are found in the bass gear; I only recall that as a friend some years back asked me to check as he had a BW equipped Databass combo and he was considering getting the driver from an identical cab to mine. Maybe the spec changed at some point.

I have a used SKB 4U case for sale @ £40 BUT the postage on top would push it closer to £50. I own a 3U Gator case and I have to confess that it is fine for protecting my amp BUT I really get irritated by the fact that the catches are on the case not the lid (unlike SKB who got it right) and when it sits on top of a bass cab you can, at certain frequencies, get sympathetic 'rattles'; a little thing not noticeable to punters at gig volume but chuffin' annoying all the same.

A bit of a rare bird in these parts. Personally I think the Parker Fly shape suits the guitar far better than the bass (I have a P38 and it is a lovely comfortable, good sounding guitar), though I'd love to try the bass version.

I'm not going to be a huge help as I don't know the model numbers but that sounds like the SD pups that Warwick installed as an option in their SSI basses back in the late 80's (or was it into the 90's ). IIRC the little rocker switches changed the frequency response... as much as I can add at this point! With regard to are they any good; they were stock SD pups so if you liked the tone of SD then yes they were good but at the time they were up against a lot of stiff competition from EMG etc. They always intrigued me and if you'd had the matching Jazz pup I'd have made you an offer for them as I'd have been interested to hear what they sounded like compared to the MEC's in my SSI.
Warwickhunt has a pair of BW 1x15 PA cabs on sale here for £110, which I reckon is a bargain for good USA made gear.
Just happened upon this thread! As stated, I have a pair of BW (each 4 ohm 350w) for sale; mounted in HiSys II cabs. I did a quick search on eBay and I found a BW basket assembly (i.e. no magnet etc) @ £60, so if you have a damaged cone that might be a good idea. <edit> Actually if you just wanted one then that might suit me fine as I'll just leave the other cab at my rehearsal space and it'll save me humping my gig cabs back and forwards!
Hello there its the Overwater I would be interested in. How old is it? Did someone mention you have a Black Overwater? Where could I see this Bass ( the 6). Are you in the North east of Scotland? Regards Oldman
Just in case Dave's at work and can't respond as soon as he'd like I'll try and help by saying the bass is in the NE of England not far from Newcastle... can't assist with the age etc!
So whats the difference between a Warwick Streamer and a Spector? Is one better than the other.
Assuming you are comparing like with like (SSI v NS2)... depends who you ask. Essentially they are just variations and one is not better than the other; just 'different'!
Declare or not it could have an effect on the car insurance certainly - just try getting a quote through Confused or somesuch without mentioning a second source as a muso, and then adding it in and see how the quotes change
I hadn't thought of doing an online quote but just out of interest I had a go... made a difference of £325 (give or take the pennies) to my quote!
No reason why it should that I can think of. It never has for me at any rate.
The only reason I ask is that insurance companies weight the premium depending upon your job and I'm fairly certain that they'd take a 2nd income of 'Musician' and use that upon which to base your premiums, rather than a softer option which your first job might be (I base this assumption on the fact that insurance companies are money grabbing tw*ts who will try and worm there way out of paying out whilst happily increasing your premium at the drop of a hat ). I do know that as a Musician you'd be in a higher risk bracket than say a shelf stacker/production line worker/teacher/whatever. Though if you were getting tax rebates that may offset some of the cost and would it be possible to claim any excess premium back from the taxman?
Thanks warwickhunter, Just looked at the nut closely and compared it to my corvette 5. you're right there is a plastic piece missing from edge of nut. Not noticed it before. The G string retains in groove very securley still and the justanut system functions fine, intonation and tuning never been a problem. Any experienced warwick owners out there to help identify what the edge plastic thing does (sorry for ignorance). I had a fortress years ago that had a brass nut, don't remember any extra edge "bits". I'll take this baby off for sale in the mean time.
I wouldn't be too hard on yourself over that nut break... they all do it! It's a pretty well documented problem area for that particular version of the adjust-a-nut. Replacements are readily available and owners often just live with the little break (as it doesn't affect much, unless you play with your hand/fingers gripping the nut ) or when fitting a replacement they are sometimes fitted with the latter system.

Hmmm if you declare earnings to the tax man etc does that then affect things like car/house insurance etc?
Excuse my ignorance, I've not seen these that much before, but in the shot of the headstock it looks like there should be two retaining screws running down through the nut - but there aren't? Is this correct? Or do they serve some other purpose? Cheers, James
They are grub screw adjusters for the nut (i.e. you can raise, lower or tilt the nut according to taste), however the camera angle/shadow does seem to show that part of the nut nearest the G string has chipped/cracked off, Yes/No? <edit> DOH! Too slow with the reply, already answered.

Another +1 for those Hartke strings... in fact if anyone wants to give them a try I bought a bunch of 4 & 5 string sets a while back, drop me a PM and yours for what I paid for them. If you've already tried them don't be greedy, let someone else try these ones!
I'm really intrigued by the new Carvin stuff... http://www.carvinworld.com/products/single...R515N&cid=7
Interesting; they do a 500w head that weighs 6lb and can be set to operate at 2ohms, neat. However there have been issues around Carvin's reliability but it could well be that age old problem of maybe a duff batch or particular single product that tars a company with a bad reputation. -

I realise you've said that a 4x10 may be too big but if you are going down the larger combo route and TE appeals... I have a mate who is likely selling a TE 4x10 combo with a full flightcase (which has casters and should you not need it you could sell that on as it is a pretty expensive bit of kit, though he isn't bumping the price up to cover it). I'm not sure of the wattage but IIRC it is about 250w. To add to the general vagueness of my contribution; I'm not sure exactly how much he wants for it but it may well be a lot less than you were expecting to pay (i.e. £250-£400). Shameless plug for mates gear aside... I'd also suggest looking at some of the Peavey stuff. It's bomb-proof and the tone is very good though massively overlooked in place of things with loads of bells and whistles. If you can find a good used 'Databass' combo (1x15 and iirc 400w; remember volume can go down as well as up, so you don't need to use it all ), you'd be hard pushed to do better than that. -

IIRC the $$ is one of the few Warwick basses that is truly passive if the batteries die, so the bass will still operate if the active circuit is defunct. However, it would be unusual for the preamp to fry for no reason (have you been trying to do any mods on it?), I'd be more inclined to think that there might be a wire loose or a dry solder joint somewhere. Look for any solder points that look different to the rest; i.e. a very shiny joint if the rest are dull, then resolder that point. If you aren't too confident with soldering/DIY work, then it shouldn't be a huge job for a tech to fault-find the problem.
Hi there mike from Cardiff here-these flatwound strings, which surprise I cannot buy in Cardiff, do they effect the neck in any way? I must admit your bass looks amazing-I tried one for the first time 6 months ago- it was a warick streamer and the action was just low and it was just so easy to play. Ah yes I just realised- are your strings extra long? sorry to ramble logicalmike
Strings are standard length, not extra long and they in no way affect the neck; not that it should matter anyway as that is what the truss rod is there for!
