1. Plenty cheap power amps and desks available. I'd suggest getting an amp that would appear to be a lot larger (powerful) than your present needs suggest. Some of the Yamaha desks with built in effects and one knob compression are pretty damn good. We've recently gone the route of powered speakers which aren't cheap (and you'd need to budget for a desk as well) but it has been worth it in terms of sound quality... assuming we are excluding the sub that we recently picked up.
 2. Now relisted for £180!
 3. So is it just me who thinks that it is basically a basket case that is going to be a shed load of grief to put right, which at the end of the project will still not be worth the intimated values the seller seems to indicate?
 4.
I've been always conceptually interested in the Zon basses, but I'd love to try one before buying it, just to avoid (as happened dozens times) to put the hands on an instrument and to be completely disappointed. Too bad I live far away... Free bump for the Zon anyway!
Where do you live?
 5.
still, its not like anyone is going to be ripped off. The reserve was very reasonable given the value of the parts.
I have to disagree. Where in his listing does he state that a part or parts (or everything except the neck) of the bass are not genuine Musicman parts? It could be argued that he doesn't know that most of the bass is cobbled together so to give him the benefit of the doubt (even though it has been pulled by eBay previously) I'm going to point out one or two of the inaccuracies and see if he responds positively; if he doesn't then he is trying to rip people off!
 6. It may well help but I've just measured the length of the string from ball end to the beginning of the silk wrap and the E string measures 34", the G srting is 36.5"
 7.
Can I just mention that, as an avid eBay watcher, this must be at least the THIRD bass to turn up recently that is (allegedly) ex-Haydock. Even if they're genuine, the one aspect of provenance that they all share is a complete lack of any evidence to support the claim.
I'm glad you mentioned that as I thought it was me having a senior moment. Why choose Haydock of all people?
 8. As wrong as a wrong thing! Prior to looking at the listing I read what Dave said about the pup being misplaced and I expected that his expert eye had picked up that it might have been a few mill out of place... jeepers it's that far back you may as well call it a piezo. Oh and what's going on with that neck plate?
 9. Dead easy to make your own... must be easy as I cobbled one together 20 years ago with the minimum of DT skills.
 10.
IIRC (and Dave might correct me if he finds his way onto this thread), it was his first bass, so it'll be the one that he bashed out Buzzcocks and Undertones covers on through his youth. Which probably halves the value again.
Dave... "in his youth"... nah never happened, he was born owld! Soz Dave it had to be done!

 12.
Thanks for all that. Could they have done a 3/4?
Nope! The JV's only ever came as a full 34" scale. However if anyone has a short/medium scale bass and feels the need for some flats... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=72792 Shameless I know but it just might be what someone is looking for.
 13. 4x10 dilemma... buy a pair of TC 2x10's and stack them end on end! No seriously, I would.
 14.
I dunno mate...... you found it on Youtube !! Snow eh
Time... hands... Moi!
 15.
if these were full scale.....
... I'd keep them!
 16. Brand new, 'opened' but never fitted, boxed, set of regular light gauge strings by D'Addario (made in the USA). Chrome flats, ECB81M. 045 - 065 - 080 - 100 Medium scale 32" £14 I just bought these off a fellow BCer (for the same price I'm selling) and I went to all of the trouble to get him to check that the G string would fit my Bolin (seeing as how I've snapped x2 LaBella & x1 Thomastik G strings due to the Bolins short span from nut to locking tuner and there isn't enough silk wrap/taper)... however completely forgot to check the other 3 strings would fit. DOH! Needless to say I could fit the G string and then three strings from the LaBellas but they are going to be tonally completely incompatible. So if you have a short/medium scale bass and want a cheap set of flats... here you go.
 17. Brand new, unopened, boxed, set of Enhanced Molecular Protection Stainless Steel strings by Warwick (made in the USA!) i.e. Coated as per the Elixirs etc. 045 - 065 - 085 - 105 standard long scale 34" £20
 18.
This is what I have now, then all the other combinations below, got me to this point, it was fun. For me, the ultimate rig changing pres and cabs, Glock 2x12 not pictured.
Seeing as how I have some personal reference point with the Tech cab Steve How do the Bergantino, Glock and Accugoove cabs stack up (other than vertically) against it... that's if it is possible to make a comparison based upon relative volumes/outputs.
 19. Methinks TC Electronic staff have a bit too much time on their hands! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Frm_sn3G0As...player_embedded
 20.
Please don't think I'm being rude, but the Camel, any particular reason or just fancied a change.
Maybe he's got 'the hump'! Coat... getting.
 21.
Wasted on me...no idea what you're on about.
Tis truly a class reply!
 22. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bass-guitar-full-siz...4#ht_500wt_1182 Not sure that the brand 'Encore' goes back to the 70's and I'm fairly sure that the 'craftsman' that put this bass together did so in the last 10 years!
 23.
Hey mate - pm your email and I'll send info required and pics. (thru neck btw) Thanks S.

Btw, think there was one going on the bay. About 1850 if I recall.
Sorry are you saying that your Warwick is a thru neck? Also do you have a link for the £1850 ebay bass!
 24.
Assuming it's happy to run at 8 ohms as well, couldn't you wire up two series pairs of 8-ohm cabs in parallel (in other words, wire two cabs in series and another two cabs in series, and run those two pairs in parallel with each other)? That'd give you 8 ohms over four cabs. I have no idea how this could be achieved with real-world cabs, but that's how you can make (for example) a 16-ohm 4x12 guitar cab with four 16-ohm speakers.
I hear what you are saying and with the right custom leads/wiring that could be achieved so that the TF550 could run x4 DB112's @ approx 380watts. However in the real world I'll likely never need more than two DB112's (which as a 4 ohm load I've never run at more than 12 o'clock on the master volume)... OK on the odd occasion maybe x3 DB112's just to show off
 25. It's a real shame that the Zon didn't work for you as it's the least 'graphite' sounding graphite bass that you'll find! However, I wouldn't be down-heartened by any lack of initial response because this is a good un and the right buyer is here somewhere.
