1.
I still have one in white. I paid £350 for it in 1987.
I had one of these basses in the 80's and it cost me (as you say) about £350. It was black sparkle, BO neck and as opposed to the OPs bass very light. It wasn't the same as Mep's bass as it didn't have the rounded off body edges, though there were obviously chamfers on the forearm rest etc. Decent bass in its day and @ £50 a positive bargain. Oh and if I can find a snap I'll see if I can scan it.
 2. At half that price I'd drive down and give it the once over but not at £5k.
 3. So the fretted one is listed separate and is up to £2100! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ex-Simple-Minds-Wal-...#ht_1453wt_1165
 4.
Should I ever list anything on ebay, I shall be noting this stuff in my listing, such as I will not post until funds have cleared into my bank account etc.
Unfortunately 'IF' you use eBay you can't do the things that you've suggested! If you list on eBay then you agree to abide by eBay's T&C, hence you've got to offer PayPal as an option in which case a buyer can elect to use PayPal and you are thereby caught up in this whole scenario outlined in this thread! You can't even go down the route of simply offering cash on collection; that is eBay's pet hate and they'll pull your listing sharpish if they spot it. <edit> Oh and don't leave the feedback just yet... you are in the enviable position of being in the (buyers) driving seat and like it or not eBay/PayPal is on your side for now.
 5.
Bloody hell... it's Flea!! Everybody knew that except me, didn't they??
Yep!
 6.
What a jolly good idea - I'll see if I can find the serial number - someone may have registered it.
I hope you won't get upset if it doesn't have the original strings on Howie... saying that you can get a 30 year old set off one of your other basses!
 7.
hi dude - how do you rate the Zon sonus? I have one too - custome splat top - beaut!!
I love the Sonus... must do as I'm onto my 3rd!
 8. His price has certainly come down from £1750! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/American-Fender-bass...=item4a9dbbe573
 9.
That gives you an idea of the heavier/faster music I like. For example, Comeback Kid, Dead Swans, Champion, Gorilla Biscuits, No Use For A Name, NOFX, Lagwagon, Ignite, Strung Out, Bring Me The Horizon, The Architects, Underoath, Every Time I Die, Converge, Cave-In, ISIS, Rancid, Pennywise, H20, Descendants, Strike Anywhere, Cancer Bats, Ghost Of A Thosand, The Bronx, The Plight, BANE, Weezer.
WHO? ...and your looking for this kind of band in Newcastle! A tip from a resident North Easterner; learn a bit of Thin Lizzy and Free, then Robert's your Mother's brother... you'll be a part of the NE music scene.

 11.
I bow to your knowledge my friend, and thank you for putting me right. Cheers Stuart
I'm sorry if it came across as 'putting you right' Stuart. You'd asked for info and as with any bass or manufacturer there are loads of stories and anomalies but some things are simply statements of fact and the 'I' / 'II' comments I made were simply recounts of the model line-up; a bit like say the difference between a jazz and a Precision... bad analogy actually as they blur a bit a Sadowsky NYC and Metro might be better!
 12. Was this recently on eBay?
 13.
It is interesting what you say, and you may well be right but I have had a Pro II and moved it on as it wasn't a patch on this one, the neck on the proII i had looked like maple and the neck profile wasn't as good, this one is a darker wood and needs waxing. This is a far better quality than the II I had, so I really don't know what to think.
I'm not disputing that some basses will be better than others but the Pro I 'v' Pro II question isn't really an issue as the Dolphin Pro I bass is, and always has been a neck-thru instrument and the designation Pro II has always been attributed to the bolt-on neck basses. The 'I' and 'II' marker was to differentiate between NT & BO basses not to differentiate between a mkI (earlier) or a mkII (later) bass. If you've owned a pair of BO neck Dolphin basses then you've owned a pair of Pro II basses. You'd be right in thinking that the Pro II is a stonking bass, in fact the reason that they stopped producing them was because they were financially a nightmare for Warwick and they gave the Pro I NT bass a good run for it's money.
 14. When you bought this in 2008 had it already been modded with the J pup?
 15.
My main bass is a warwick Dolphin Pro 1, in a painted black/red finish (see my acatar), it has a bolt on neck and two J pickups. It has one of the thinnest Warwick necks I have ever played and has a fabulous growl. I have never seen another one like it with that configuration. Does anyone know anything more about this. It isn't the Japanese Series 2, it is a German made pukka Warwick, and I was once told it was a special order and quite pricey. Any info would be gratefully recieved
It's actually a Dolphin Pro II bass that you have, Pro I basses are NT basses. If it happens to say Pro I on the truss rod cover then someone has retrofitted it at some stage in it's life. When they originally tried to introduce these in 90/91 the production wasn't 'in-house' but was subcontracted to a German company, however Warwick weren't happy with QC and I don't think they ever went into full production. Production was immediately moved to Japan where they were produced as your bass is with JJ pups and there were a variety of colours, I can't recall ever seeing a natural finish bass (no CS as there was no such thing in the Japanese production) and I don't think I've seen too many red/black basses. As you say they are a lovely bass and the necks are significantly slimmer than virtually any of the later BO basses. What year is your bass? <edit> I was asking about the year as I can't recall if these basses ceased production in the 90's or if they managed to continue into the next Millennium.
 16. 'Unfortunately' for the seller he'll be lucky to get away with stating "Unfortunatly I can only accept cash on collection from Chorley, Lancs for this item."... if someone wants to pay via paypal, he can't stop them!
 17. Is the Sadowsky Dave Wilson's old bass? If it is then that bass was a very good example by all accounts... saying that I don't think I've heard of a duffer!
 18.
Does anyone have any experience of fanned frets, is there much of a learning curve?

Those who have tried a Super J can probably tell you that it is very easy and immediate to get used to the fanned frets. You barely notice it.
I've never tried one of these but I would love and I'd probably have had a punt at this and bought blind but at this kind of price it'd have to be in my fav colour/livery and that'd have to be 'burst with tortie! Best of luck with the sale though.
 19.
If the item is in Ramsgate, Kent, why is the listing in Spanish? (It's been a long week and I'm not very bright!)
Fede was looking at it on the Italian ebay site; here's the same (sold ) item on UK. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...%3D1&_rdc=1
 20.
I've always wondered where it shows how many people are watching an item ... can anyone tell me?

there's a hit counter at the bottom of the page - it's at 49 as I type
Only the seller can tell how many people have it 'marked' for watching; otherwise as Steve says the counter at the bottom tells you how many hits the listing has (not all listings have them as it is optional).
 21.
Hi guys look at this! http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...=STRK:MEBIDX:IT only 31 viewers and only one offer! this auction is worth a shot I suppose. I can't afford it at the moment, waiting for the future to buy this fantastic piece of kit! cheers, Fede
Surely if these are £145 new then even if you win it with the next bid, @ £112 + P&P for a used one that doesn't sound like a mega deal! I'd wait till you have the cash and these'll probably be £110 NEW.
 22.
This bass used to be mine and also Mark (Bassaussie) owned it for a few months as well. I sold it to WaveyDavy and then somehow it's got to you.
I can fill in a bit more history as I almost bought this from Dave (eubassix), so there's another bit of the jigsaw.
 23. My 89 Streamer Stage I doesn't flare out or thicken up much as you go up the neck, my Zon is similar; from memory are Rics fairly slim? I suppose ultimately you need to look at string spacing at the bridge; a bass with skinny bridge spacing is going to have a narrower neck.
 24. Don't think 3 piece! I play in a 3 piece and below is our set lists for tomorrow night. This isn't meant to be an indication of what you 'should/could' cover but if you look through I doubt you'd find much by any 3 piece band... Salisbury Hill & Boys of Summer are good fun as a 3 piece! Set 1 1 Use Somebody 2 Walk this Way 3 Violet Hill 4 Ain’t Talkin’ bout Love 5 The Story 6 Satellite 7 Sidewinder Sleeps 8 Salisbury Hill 9 Cryin’ Set2 1 Learn to Fly 2 No One Knows 3 Good Riddance 4 Livin’ on a Prayer 5 Jack & Dianne 6 Crazy 7 Valerie 8 Boys of Summer 9 Peaches 10 All These Things That I’ve Done 11 Sex on Fire 12 Crazy Train 13 She 'kin Hates Me
 25.
Larrrvley ! I always regret passing on a fretless 5 (unlined) one of those. Andy
That'll have been a later Infinity bass Andy; very similar in overall shape and pup lay-out etc but not the same as these were only ever made as 4 string fretted versions and they were limited to a number somewhere between 100-220... depending on who you believe!
