1.
what's a Jack bass?
Hohner Jack bass (Google is your friend ). A headless, full (though small) bodied bass; however, I don't ever recall seeing a maple board.
 2.
With comments like that it amazes me that some folk don't get your screen name!
I do have standards to maintain you know! Nowt wrong with those pics btw.
 3. I've got a recurring shoulder injury so I have to be very careful about the weight of any bass I use (sub 9lb is OK but closer to 8lb is best). As a result I'd give you one bit of advice; be sure to actually check the weight of the instrument you are thinking of buying... don't go off manufacturers guesstimates or even generalisations by well intentioned individuals. I'd been informed that certain Lakland basses were very reasonable weights, purchased a Skyline JO 4 which the seller assured me couldn't be more than 9lb... it weighed 11lb+ Added to which I assumed that most Lakland DJ basses were reasonably light and I encountered no bass under 10lb. I presently have a Bolin (you'll not find one and it isn't your style ) that weighs 8lb 5oz and a Zon Sonus that is 8lb 6oz. However to help you with your quest (and generalising as I advised you not to listen to )... Sadowskys are generally lighweight Jazz style basses especially the NYC but out of your budget I'd say. 'If' you can track down a Zon it'd be worth trying a they were lauded as 'The Jazz bass for the 90's' (I've owned 3 Zon Sonus and they all came in well under 9lb)! I'm sure that a Shuker could be obtained that was made from lightweight woods. Good luck.
 4.
Hi All Due to some unforeseen circumstances I'm selling my two Spector Euros. Both are fitted with John East U-Retro preamps and both come with full aluminium/ply heavy duty flight cases. The light here today is rubbish for photography of anything let alone shiny basses so please excuse the substandard pics. They both have Schaller strap lock buttons. This one, as you can see, is the 4-string. It's a maple thru-neck and has Alder/Walnut/Flame Maple sandwich wings. The U-Retro on this one is a standard unit and the single knob at the top is just an unconnected pot. The U-Retro's toggles have been shrink wrapped and tucked away in the cavity: they are effectively redundant with active pickup + preamp bass. I've seen some people on talkbass put plugs into the holes but I just thought a pot and knob was a much nicer aesthetic. It has EMG P/J pickups and has a killer tone - it's more aggressive than the Euro 5 and it has a certain gurgle and bite to it. This could well be the first bass I regret selling as it's pretty special and feels nicer than any Euro 4 I've played. I've had it from new and it's been gigged only a few times and used mainly as back up to my NS5 lately. It's main use has been for playing drop-D tunings at home. The U-Retro makes it extremely versatile and it's good for any style of music. As I've said before, don't be scared of Spectors, they are like Lamborghinis and Ducatis; people who haven't got one knock them and people who have fall in love with them. String spacing is 19mm at the bridge and it's a 34" scale. The neck profile is somewhere between a classic P and Stingray sort of profile. Anyway this is one hell of a cracking instrument and I feel as though you ought to be vetted before being allowed to buy it £1000 with flight case.
They are without a doubt the most substandard pics I've seen in a long while... where are they?
 5.
Nah, i understand why you were a bit cautious, you're right though, the organisation was piss poor, and the hucknall bands that she booked didn't help matters, i've played with/watched most of them play before and as a generalisation, most of them couldn't organise a pissup in a brewery, let alone organise a gig date to which they can all turn up to and then actually turn up on time on the night, a lot of them don't even have their own equipment, and that's before i get to the music... honestly, organising a gig in hucknall is an absolute nightmare. And yeah, it's for charity, her and some people from college are going to ghana to help build houses or schools or something? I didn't know she'd organised anything before, either way, she hasn't done it much... as for the 18's thing, I think she intended it to be for all ages and then realised that it's in a pub so she couldn't (some of the pubs round here are ok with it, some aren't. Personally i got fed up of all the U18's turning up at the gigs and just behaving like what they are - children. I don't mean you luke, you're alright, but just some of the under 18 regulars just acted like prats until eventually any adults that would pay to get in stopped turning up and they just became children's parties... not good. but i digress. She's organising another one in april, she did say to me that this one was just to "test the water" and wasn't going to be all that important, though i may have to help her out a little on the next one... she does mean well.
After reading through this thread re. this 'organiser' friend of yours, I hope she isn't personally organising that?
 6. Well that's his backside well and truly covered when it turns out to NOT be a 1974! The nail in the coffin is that he can't/won't supply any more/better pics and I assume someone has asked him for any info that might be visible when the neck is removed...
 7.
Did it have a brand name? Not very many of them were set-neck so if it definitely was, that would probably narrow it down a lot. The problem is that there were literally dozens of different brands & factories all copying the same instrument - and being copies they all tend to look pretty similar! J.
That's where my quest fails me; I was hoping that seeing a couple of headstocks with names on might jog my memory but alas off the top of my head I can't recall. The set-neck isn't even a definite but I seem to recall that at the time I decided not to refinish the bass (as I did the short scale Jazz I subsequently got), so I'm assuming it was because the neck was fixed. Don't worry about it I just wondered if there was a resource/website that might show some of the copy basses from this period (which would have been the mid 70's as I recall getting it around 78 and it wasn't beaten up).
 8. This is a long shot and there may not be a simple answer but... My very first bass was a short scale Gibson 'SG' EB? style jap cr4p bass. I have a very hazy recollection of it; it may have been NT rather than BO and it was period correct red stain mahogany with appropriate 2 aside headstock, but is there a likely candidate for what it may have been? If anyone has pics of any likely candidates I'd love to see, as it may trigger my memory as to the make. I might then try and track one down for old times sake. As I say, it's a long shot!
 9. You have a Musicman Stingray, Fender Precision, Fender Jazz, Rickenbacker 4003, Gibson Thunderbird and a Double Bass... what you lack is a Warwick (or a Zon )!
 10. Typical... I was thinking of putting my Sonus Custom up for sale and you list this! Luckily mine is a 4 stringer so we shouldn't be in competition. These are fantastic basses and this should be snapped up pretty quickly by any discerning potential buyer; good luck.
 11. It is all down to personal preference as I've owned Warwicks and Spectors and tbh I've always been happier with Warwicks. There will of course be those who think the opposite and prefer Spectors over Warwicks (paging 'Cetera' )! My reasoning for W over S is that the Spectors feel (physically and tonally) a bit bloated in comparison to Warwicks.
 12. The Geordie chapter grows ever larger!
 13.
Very old TE guitar speaker cab, I think.
I hate it when someone (especially an 'OldGit' ) says that; as I remember when these were released/reviewed... and it doesn't seem that long ago!
 14. If there's a bad word said against the CV basses I'd be surprised/amazed. That isn't to say that they are perfect but for the money you are 'unlikely' to find a better Fender styled bass available in this price range!
 15.
also which two are you down too Warwickhunt?
Old Red (first Warwick I ever owned) Infinette #2 (the one reviewed in 'Bassist' 1991)
 16.
Have to say that the 2 Wicks Ive owned were perfect QC wise - like Volkswagens. But the ash covette (and the Thumb that replaced it) both had neck dive like a beeatch. That with the perceived neck length made me go back to Fender and MM in the end.
Well there's always a first! I've not heard of a Corvette with neck dive as the long top horn tends to even the balance but I suppose if the Ash body was light enough it may well compromise stability!
 17.
Really?! How do you know?
I occasionally get PM's from people who I've communicated with on a regular basis or who I've met at local bashes and you'd be amazed how many have said they took ages to twig... or maybe you wouldn't be amazed!
 18.
That Victor acoustic looks the biz... and a good price

It is a lovely bass. Only had it for 8 months too. As I say, sorry to have to release it into the wild.
Forgive my ignorance but are there two models of this bass (i.e. USA and Far East)?
 19.
Love the username BTW.
Some people don't even spot it!
 20.
look in the 'bass' forum, there's a warwick thread and you can see how people are wanting a "Made in Germany" bass someday in the future. I bet warwickhunt is waiting for the day when the desired models will say "made in West Germany"!
I only have TWO Warwick basses left so it matters little to me... but I know where you are coming from!
 21.
All Sads have VTC both New York and Metro.
My eyesight may be going so forgive me if I'm wrong but looking at your pics it doesn't look like the bass has the VTC fitted; it may well not have the VTC as they weren't available on the earlier basses. Just trying to save you any grief if a buyer were to receive it and be disappointed because it wasn't fitted.
 22.
Just been discussing this. Ritters are definitely more a work of art. Personally, I love them.
However one man's 'work of art' is another man's 'pretentious fussiness'... and that could be said of Ritter, Warwick OR Alembic!
 23.
Requirements: Not too heavy No neck dive Plenty of eq options Tradional as possible
The Streamer and Corvette shapes are very different to look at and essentially it's down to personal preference in that respect. Neither of the basses that you mention are mega heavy (though a Bubinga bodied Corvette will 'generally' be heavier than an Ash) and I've never heard of neck dive from either bass. If you are going for the $$ you are spoilt for choice with regard to tonal options. Traditional... Nah! The Corvette body shape is hardly trad' Fender style and though the Streamer (Spector NS) body shape has been around 25+ years it also isn't a J or P bass; the options from the $$ pups means that you can replicate some trad tones but then again why would you you buy a Warwick because you don't want a Fender!
 24. Have you considered advertising it on the likes of the Warwick forum? If the Aggies are so expensive over in Europe you might have more luck getting your asking price selling somewhere in Europe 'other than' the UK!
 25.
cheers and congrats on a great bass, give me a shout if you evermove it on - all the best lee
Ignore Lee ( )... and give me a shout if you want to sell the 'basschat bike' as I was one of the MANY owners before him! Just so happens I'm actively looking to find a similar/identical Sterling but it has to smell as nice as that one! re. the strings - I used DR Sunbeams on it (45-105) and they were fab.
