A frequent 'subtle' con/ploy to get the unwary thinking that they may be snagging a Fender Custom Shop on the cheap. As usual the seller is clever/honest/tricky enough that he's well covered his backside by clearly telling everyone what it actually is! Only the greedy or foolish would be bidding this up hoping that they might actually get a CS and there are people out there who will be doing just that... we've seen it before
This one made by Tribal Planet, it's got plenty of pocket space and even a stand on the back of the rear zipper to hold it upright.
I've got one of those gigbags... I now have to buy a Bongo to fit in it!
It's the shape. You see that 90 degree bit at the tip, and 90 degree bit underneath it? It's a beautiful curve that echoes the top horn of the body. And apparently is a weak spot for paint. I'm sure pointy headed Jacksons suffer from the same thing: there's a *thud*, you've just got too personal with the drum kit. Chip in headstock! Q.E.D. Or something.
I hear what you are saying but surely ANY headstock regardless of outline shape will connect with offending drum hardware and come off with a ding? Not arguing I just think that Bongos seem to get bad press for it when in fact I've yet to see a Lakland DJ without a chip out the headstock! I blame it on painted finishes... say what you like about Warwicks but at least the same dings don't look half as bad on a natural finish.
My old 4 string Bongo was featherweight. Really light. but the 5ers are on the heavey side, as they really are quite massive basses. I don't mind the weight though, never bothers me (as of yet).
It's only 4's I'm interested in but as yet I've not seen one that is under 9.5lb! The physical dimensions of the 4 string Bongo aren't massive, are they... they look smaller then Sterlings or is that a misconception of mine?

2 questions! 1) Why should the Bongo headstock suffer damage/knocks/dings more than any other 'headed' bass... or is that just a fallacy? 2) Are the Bongo range naturally a bit weighty (i.e. none below 9lb)?

20-25 years ago (keep me right Howie) I had our very own 'Bass Doc' create me a Jazz style bass (1 piece black walnut body), which had a single pup (really x2 Jazz pups side-by-side a la MM) and a single control... volume. I loved the simplicity and uniqueness of it but after a short time I found that it wouldn't do everything I needed so I had him fit another single Jazz pup in the neck position and added a pan pot and tone control! It was a damn sight cheaper for me to do that than it would for you to mod an already expensive CS bass. Think long and hard before going the Fender CS route.
Love the headstock design too - it reminds me of the NS Design EUBs :-) Beautiful instrument!
Well spotted! The Bolin 'NS' Bass was indeed designed by non-other than Mr Steinberger himself. What you don't see in the design are some of the subtleties, such as; the body is thicker in the centre than the edges, the neck is bolted on in such a way that the bolts go in at angles to pull the neck in tighter to the body, the bass has an arm that swings out to bring the upper 'horn' closer to the 12th fret balance point and a few others that I tend to take for granted.

I'm in the minority I suppose! I love many of the Warwick (or Spector inspired ) shapes but I'd not thank you for the Thumb SC... HOWEVER; my main gigging bass of the last 3 years has been a SC. Oh and it balances perfectly and clocks in at not much more than 8lb in weight.

Removed the link as a mate is after this bass.... sorry. Hope those that saw it will have the decency to let him have a pop at it.
You must be lucky,I've never known any who actually carry gear, unless they are in the band.
VERY lucky! My wife (technically a promoted girlfriend) wraps gear up and carries gear at any gig she attends... in fact she could set-up/strip down my gear no problem.
There's a way to make more space...... The girlfriend has no need to be there
Sorry got to disagree. A girlfriend (yours or otherwise) is far more useful than a guitard... at least a girlfriend would help carry the gear!

Neck is slimmer Body is smaller Switch for series/parallel on Sterling Dummy coil in the Sterling pup IRC they also have different preamps ... so that's virtually everything!
